Every Blogger Knows . . . Thank You Is Living on the Web
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 10:33 pm
It’s the Living!
Every blogger knows we have to repeat what we say, because sometimes folks are absent. . . . or they’re busy thinking their own thoughts . . . or we didn’t say it quite as well as we might. So when a friend says something brilliant we keep it close and use it again and again.
It starts with the words of Tony D. Clark. Thank you, friend.
The whole thing changes when the world becomes your community.
Every blogger knows having a friend who will help out is why the Internet is thriving.
Two weeks ago, I asked a favor of Mitch Matthews. Would you guest host Open Comments Night? He made it sound like I was giving him a gift. Thank you, Mitch, for jumping in with all of the energy, fun, and wonderful things you are.
Every blogger knows, when someone comes to town, it’s important to say “hello,” even if you’ve never met. As it turned out a hello became the start of a conversation with Jeff Pulver and his cousin. Eric, and ended in Jeff’s Summer Party at the House of Blues. Thank you, Jeff, for your charming curiosity, your incredible generosity, and the amazing people you gathered in one room.
Every blogger knows some folks are connected before they meet. How do you do to Chris Brogan, who greeted me with kind words from a friend, Becky McCray. Thank you, Becky. I feel like you introduced us. Thank you, Chris, for unexpectedly showing up, and showing up more than I would have expected.
Every blogger knows that coming home is the best! Thank you everyone who was here at Open Comments Last Night to make Mitch feel welcome as a guest.
Thank you, Wendy and Ari, for being part of the event last night. Fun isn’t as much fun without people who are close.
Yeah it’s right. Sometimes we have to repeat what we say, because folks are absent. . . . or they’re busy thinking their own thoughts . . . or we didn’t say it quite as well as we might. So I’ll say it again.
I’m one lucky blogger so many times over. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Well thank you. It’s exciting finding yet another part of the team. We’re all in here doing the work. We’re all out there plumbing it all together, preparing for the revolution. It might not even be a bang. It might be a sluice, a stream, a change of directions and data shifting nodes, nervously, like feet at junior high first dances.
But we’re all in there.
Hi. : )

Hot damn! Mr. Brogan. I do like the way that you said that!

Liz - It was GREAT to meet you. Just wish that I could have spent more time talking with you at dinner. I’ll leave it at that.
Thanks for coming out to the House of Blues and sharing your presence with everyone. When the music started I headed to the front of the stage where I spent most of the evening. Maybe I should have mingled more…but I felt an energy which just moved me in that direction. My friends from Seattle were just ON that night…I look forward to seeing you again.
Hope you have a FUN summer!

Jeff,
That feeling is mutual. I know we’ll be talking. I’m gonna do my best to smile you back to Chicago.
No worries about the House of Blues. You were perfectly you. It was fun . . . like an early birthday present. . . . Thank you for taking in a waif and making me feel at home with your family and friehds.
I look forward to when we meet again too.
Big smiles.
You’re not a stranger anymore.

Hey Liz–
Early birthday presents are great all year round, aren’t they? : ) My birthday’s in April so seeing you could be a very very very early birthday present.

Hey, I like that though!

Cool, I like starting stuff…
And thank YOU for being my friend, and a friend of the community.
A community starts with a meeting, but it takes a catalyst to grow. I’m sure there are lots and lots of folks who agree with me that YOU are a community catalyst, Liz.
ME Strauss said
Hi Tony!
You start more stuff than I can imagine, I’m sure of that.
We’re getting some real momentum and it’s time to make something happen around here, don’t you think?
What should it be?

Hi Liz,
Well, obviously we are having the same thoughts at the same time now although in different ways. Let me wheel my chair over and tell you about a post called “Community, The Quiet Revolution” that I put up this morning. It’s rather short but it says what I wanted to say.
Glad you were able to meet all these great people. Perhaps someday I’ll be able to meet a few myself.
ME Strauss said
Hi Kirk,
I hope you’ll stop by and leave a link to make it easy for folks to find your post to read it. That would be a service, not an intrusion.
I began meeting people one at a time — like we did in the neighborhood where I grew up. Sometimes I go where they are and let them know. Sometimes they are in town and let me know. Soon they’re introducing me to someone else.

Hi Liz,
Here’s (hopefully) the link to the post. It’s not that my html is that poor although it leaves much to be desired, it’s my typing ability that hurts. So if it’s not something besides regular words, I always end up putting up a comment that has a bunch of gobbledygook where the link is supposed to be. I think I solved the problem by using an old blog editor that puts out pure xhtml. Let’s see if the old copy and paste routine works then.
And thanks for letting me know it’s not an intrusion to leave a link. And if you’re ever in Vermont doing some leaf-peeping, drop me a line and my wife and I will have you over for lunch or something. That is if you want to travel almost to the Canadian border that is.
ME Strauss said
Hi Kirk!
Thanks even more for bring the link. You can just copy and paste the url next time, Lots of folks do it that way.
It would wonderful to visit and to see you. I don’t get out much, being an elderly blogger. What you saw the last few days could very well be my year.
I’m back to living in your computer.
Chris Brogan... said
Good thing you’ve finally accepted that you’re an elderly blogger. In 3 years, when I’m elderly like you, I’ll accept it, too. Right now, I’m just looking forward to adult diapers. : )
ME Strauss said
Chris,
You might want to join Kirk and I. We have plans to meet in our wheelchairs at the top of the sledding hill in a couple years. It’s the one outside the old folks’ home.
Kirk M said
Now Liz, I’ve seen your picture…you’re not that elderly. Now me on the other hand, I tend to feel older th….say now, that’s some nice hubcaps you got for your wheelchair. Mind telling me where you got them?
ME Strauss said
Hi Kirk!
Heck that picture was taken last February, before SOBCon.
The hubcabs a junk yard in my home town. I did the detailing myself.
Kirk M said
Hi again Liz,
On the picture…your point, M’ladyship?
And I’m shining up a set I found in the garage. I would hate to be outclassed at our meet at sledding hill (is Chris coming?). I was recently given a “Thinking Blogger” award as part of a meme. The icon “plague” (for the sidebar) that comes with it has an image of a little guy with a big cranium obviously deep in thought. I think I’ll use that image on the hubcaps. All I’ll need is a bit of smoke curling from the top of his head and it will be perfect.
You know, us and our wheelchairs just might become the running gag as it were. Pretty soon new folks will start wondering if we really have to use them. Perhaps we should start a “wheeling bloggers” community.
ME Strauss said
Hi Kirk!
On the picture, my point is that SOBCon wore me out since then.
That thinking blogger guy would look so special on your hubcabs. We could make our wheelchairs into soapbox derby racers.
Kirk M said
Now you’re talking.
Becky McCray said
Liz, I’m glad I played some small part in a positive thing for you. Goodness knows, you’ve introduced many, many people to each other, and the benefits have been terrific.

Liz -
Geesch. Sorry I missed this post when you initially put it out there!
Are you kidding me? It was and still is a gift! Thanks for the fun and the support!
Let’s keep it going!
You’re awesome… and you’re an inspiration!
Wahooo! Yup. I’m even wearing my I love LIZ STRAUSS t-shirt today! (Everybody should have one!)
