Google Changes the Game — 10 Sites Hit in October . . . Now Look

NOT Just a PageRank Update

The Living Web

Every Monday, I check in to see how the web world is treating me. It seems that Technorati has left me out in the cold . . . my 180-day archives have been only 60-90 days deep for over a year now. When I wrote last week, no one answered. . . .

But it’s looking like Google may be having a change of heart . . . We could have a mutually-beneficial relationship again. Something more than a PageRank update is definitely going on. PageRank seems to be getting an entirely new definition.

Other signs life and page rank is changing . . .

And then, of course, there are the blogs taken down hard last October . . .

10 Sites Hit in October . . . Today

Some stats collected by Daily Blogging Tips last October and the current page rank reported by more than one tool. NOTE: Google datacenters are still dancing, not all datacenters are reporting. That means numbers could go anywhere.

I love looking for patterns in Google thinking.

What does this mean? Do you care?

I would love to be a part of this pack. I was hit with a page rank decrease, I removed all offending material (a whopping 4 extremely relevant text links), and I have yet to see my page rank reinstated despite my request to them to do so.

All of the blogs on the rest of my site have a higher page rank than my founding blog at this point. It makes both Google and me look stupid. :|

Not a care in the world. Mine you though, I did hit a Pagerank 6 at one point and given the fact I’m a personal blog that does absolutely no marketing at all, that was pretty good. Every since Google’s crackdown, I haven’t been affected at all.

I doubt I’ll be affected even now. But like I said, I don’t really care. If I really wanted to make something of my blog, it wouldn’t be through all the rankings and trying to kerry rig it. It’ll be through my words and the relationships I build with my readers.

My PR is hanging in there on my blog..and my website has gone up! I have no idea why… I’ve been posting a lot less so that I could focus on getting my book done. But one thing weird was that overnite this weekend my feedburner stats dropped by over 500…that was bizarre.

I miss you Liz!! I hope you forgive me not getting here often…Life has been crazy busy It’s all good though!

    Hey Wendy!
I know what you’re thinking . . . when important things don’t make sense, they are more than frustrating. How can it be explained in a logical way without making everyone look silly? Kind of seems like an interesting challenge, don’t you think? :)

    Hi Edrei,
Don’t worry. If I blogged for page rank, I would have quit long ago. No number, no amount of traffic can be what I get from a heartfelt comment from a friend.

No number has ever brought tears to my eyes, but so many comments have.

    Hi, Liz!

It means maybe there’s hope that I’ll get my PR back! In late October, after nine months of blogging, Writer’s Notes finally achieved page rank (PR 3). I was elated. Then, about a month later, my blog’s PR went back to 0, and it’s been there ever since. (Still is, by the way–despite the recent rumblings at Google.)

I’m optimistic though, because, while my PR hasn’t (yet) been restored, I noticed just yesterday that my Google backlinks have risen from 157 to over 1200! That’s got to mean something! (Let me tell you, I was very surprised to see that, because this is the first time they’ve ever been over 158–even though I have over 50,000 Yahoo! backlinks.)

Something’s up at Google, that’s for sure! And I hope it works out well for all!

    Regards,
    Jeanne

    Hi Jeanne!
Yep it means something’s up for for sure. What it truly is we’ll probably only see what happens and never know the reasons that make it so. :)

    frankly Lizz..I don’t care.

Too much of G dance over pagerank. If they are not ready to clear their stance on PR then I am not interested

    Hi CompuWorld,
I don’t really care much either, but I love trying to figure out the puzzle. Something like this keeps me thinking about where the patterns are. :)

I am down to 3, but Google Directory if you are in it gives a true representation.

A number of sites had their PR restored earlier, for instance SEJ, as it doesn’t take an global update to remove the penalty

Yeah, Andy, its a conversation piece mostly to me — like a big bear in a cago down the street who makes lots of noise, but so far hasn’t gotten out of his pen.

Still anything that can rearrange the Internet should be paid attention to.
