Great Find: 2 Standalone Trackback Tools
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 5:37 pm
Trackback Troubles
A few months ago, I was having a problem with trackbacks. It occurred right after a server move. Everything seemed to be working, yet the trackbacks weren’t appearing. I found the situation somewhat distressing. What I was writing was important and incredibly cool — as everything we write is.
This week I am having a problem with my trackbacks again. It just started happening for apparent reason. I haven’t had the time to play detective, but I know the value of well-placed trackbacks.
Trackbacks show other writers that I’ve thought about what they’ve written. They offer my work on the same sujbect to another conversation. People notice trackbacks. Sometimes they even follow one home.
Being without my trackbacks is a lot like being without.
the ability to stop by your blog to say hello.
Standalone Trackback Tools
When the problem happened last time, I introduced folks to this standalone trackback tool from Wizbang Tech.
Now I’ve found is another one from Simpletracks to add to your toolkit.
Click the two logos to access the tools. Both are easy to use and work the same way. I like having two in order to be sure that I have one if the other isn’t working.
I’ll leave you with what I said before.
Trackbacks are a great way of building visibility. When you read a post on another blog and realize you’ve posted on the same subject, a trackback offers a chance to say, “Hey, let me share my thoughts on this.†Without trackbacks, you’re missing out on one more way to promote your business and your blog.

Hey Liz,
No trackbacks yet, but I have a new address… http://workingathomeinternet.com and my EM is joe@ the same address.
I haven’t even decided if the template I have is the one I’m going to use yet, but at least it’s ALIVE.
I have a lot of work to do yet, but I am learning. I have already done some tweaking to the template (not much).
Come on over and visit. Offer suggestions. DavidC and Lyman have already been over and offered to help move the furniture.

I just stopped by to take a look. I know that template. It’s very business. It looks good. I hope you like it. If you have WordPress questions, feel free to ask them.

Thanks Liz,
You know I will…
I did want the Andrea04 template (more techie), but I can’t get it to load.
I may just stay will this one for a while, it will be enough work to get it right.

There are so many templates. I know what a pain it is to settle on just one.

timely topic Liz. Hart recently tipped me off to the fact that my own blog is not doing the trackback and pingback properly.
I’ve been pulling my hair out since then trying to get the damn thing to work.

Use the simpletracks version. It has one advantage. It will tell you if there is an error in sending. Then at least you know it didn’t go. I was having a problem with the Net Neutrality trackbacks, so I’m figuring that some of the blogs in questions may have their comments turned off due to spammers attacking them.

Speaking of which, I have to look around. I know I linked to you on the Good Reads post today from my new house.
I want to see if the auto trackback works!?!
Which post was it???
ME Strauss said
Hi Hon,
I didn’t do any linking today yet, but I will. I only stopped by to say hello. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hey Liz,
No… I did the every Sunday Weekly Good Reads post that I put out. A trackback should have shown here, AND IT DID.
I commented with a wide open mouth, unexpected grin. I didn’t know if auto trackbacks would work or not.
I’m really getting happier and happier I made the change from Blogger.

Oh, and by the way, I like the new look for the Titles and Headers.
ME Strauss said
Thanks, Joe, for mentioning that. They’re really just the beginning.
The big change is still about to happen.
Joe said
Just don’t YOU change
ME Strauss said
What a lovely thing for you to say, Joe.
Thank you.
BTW I noticed a new icon at Technorati for your blogs.
Joe said
Do you think it’s better than that W that I had before?
Joe said
Hey I just wanted to finally change the addresses I have for the reply to comments.
Let me know if it works.
Send me and E-mail at the new address, please.
Thanks

I like the new one icon. I think it looks very professional.
Your first comment did the moderation thing.

Now I just have to figure out how to get it on the New Blog. #-)

Make it a png file call it logo and put it in the Images folde, I’m not sure where that puts the logo on your template, but I think it might be okay.
Or You might contact Sabine at CTBIz BLogs she has the same template and she’s a really nice SOB.

[...] If your software does not allow trackbacks, at all, there is still a way to accomplish this. Liz Strauss has written a great article about online trackback tools and troubleshooting. And as an added bonus to your understanding of trackbacks, I am going to send her one, from here, that points to her PERMALINK about that VERY article (amazing, no?): http://www.successful-blog.com/1/great-find-2-standalone-trackback-tools/ Note that Liz is using a “pretty” version of a the PERMALINK structure. Maybe I’ll will get lucky and she will send me a PERMALINK from a POST thus solidifying this tutorial. In addition, cool software like blogdesk and Live Writer allow you to send trackbacks from within them. [...]
