Hi Liz! (Finally — I remembered the greeting part. Right off)
Thanks for bringing that list to our attention — as you say, some of that is in the “I knew that” category even for a newbie like me. But I’ve been sort of thinking about point #4 (“Me too†is boring. Provoke folks. Get them thinking. Emotion elicits response.) But it was definitely at the “sort of thinking” level. Reading this list clarified absolutely.
Also I’ve been drooling over Scott’s simple themes. If I could give up my header, I’d switch to one of them in a flash. I’m bookmarking Another Blogger and I’m sure it’s partly because his/her site looks so damn good to me.

Hi Katie!
It’s a great list and a great blog. That’s why I made him an SOB a few weeks back! i like the way he thinks.
katiebird said
Those SOBs, they’re a fine crew! Particulary week 35….
ME Strauss said
Ah, I can’t believe the people that I’ve met through the SOB program all the way back to week 1.

A very well written list, and I can proudly say, I follow some of that stuff already, so onto a good start in the world of blogging. Now I can focus on the rest and improve my blog.
Thanks Liz

I couldn’t agree more with this point. And no offence to TechZ, since she wrote about Pluto a few days ago! What I mean is that ONLY writing about what everyone else is … is, well, silly. Though I guess it’s OK if you still write original content, and differentiate yourself from the pack.
Thank you for the bringing the article to our attention, Liz

The points made about comments and commentators were also great - OK OK, I’ve finished reading the whole thing now.

HI Yvonne!
Sounds like you got up today with lots of energy! I agree that posting only what everyone is posting won’t get you much notice unless you put a quirky twist on everything.
All new bloggers need a chance to find their own voice and their own path to the content that their blog will be. But you already know that that’s why your’s is served up on a hot dish.

Ha ha, of course Liz
I don’t think many bloggers give themselves the chance to find their personal style because they’re so busy trying to ’stay with the pack’.
If I may, I think one more thing is important to add to that list - never write in the morning. Now I know people will disagree - who wants their readers visiting their site first thing at work to nothing? - but for me, the morning is when I read through all of my RSS subscriptions, pick out the interesting things to bookmark, take a look at Digg and delicious, and THEN at the end of the day I decide what to write based on what everyone else is … that is, what they’re NOT writing about.
Oh god, rambling again … sorry, Liz
ME Strauss said
Hi Yvonne,
Isn’t that funny? I do just the opposite. I avoid the RSS feeds in the morning because they fill my head up with what everyone else is thinking. I write my best in the morning when I’m not tired and no one is around. Then at night I read.
PS You never ramble.
Yvonne said
Ah, well, I did say somewhere up there that it did all come down to personal preference
ME Strauss said
It’s even funnier if you consider that with the timeline etc. we’re probably doing it at the same time anyway . . . your day being my night and the other way.

Hey, pretty nice advice in comment 12 Liz. Maybe that’s why it takes me a few hours for my brain to completely boot up; it’s too full of information as soon as my eyes open!
It seems to work well with Yvonne, as it just adds more spice to my life, but my brain isn’t a very good multi-tasker.
ME Strauss said
Hi Rico,
Don’t feel bad about that multitasking thing. Research keeps proving over and over that no one’s brain is good at it.

Thanks very much for the great advice article. I have a fairly new blog and we are concerned about quality but we would like quantity. If anyone will visit my site and offer any advice it woud be appreciated.

I totally dig #4. I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that you always have to make everybody love you. Sometimes, kicking up the dust is just what you need to get conversation rolling.

Hi Jay,
Welcome! I understand what you’re saying completely. It’s so much more fun to like who I work with that I got into think that it was a requirement. It make me put some priorities in the wrong place. Now I try to like them, but liking the work and working with them is enough.
