Well, getting a new host .. I can only assume that you will be keeping your domain and transferring all of your previous posts? or, will you be starting from scratch?

I ask - because I recently am being plagued with problems moving from a host provider to another, and trying to get my database exported and restored. It seems to be an issue that existing database is written on the InnoDB MySQL engine, while the database I want to move it to does not support InnoDB and instead uses MyISAM …

(Today, it’s all greek to me - I hope to figure this out by New Years - but just in case, if that means anything to somebody and wish to help me - I would appreciate the assist off-line at hart(at)PetLvr(dot)com … )

So! That was a “nudge, nudge, say no more” hint to hope that you document your move and transition… /

Wow! What I know is wrong. I love when I find that out in any situation. It makes me look at things with so much of a better perspective. The lesson I’m taking from whatever has transpired regarding FF in the last few days is you’ve just got to provide value. I’m still a big fan of Scrivs but a looking forward to an idependent Successful Blog. Good luck on the move Liz.

You make a good point about providing value. I hope to do that and I’m thinking of how I might refocus Successful Blog to provide more value to more readers. I’d love your thoughts if you have some you’d like to share.

I thought I was too stretched/burnt out from my own projects at the moment to think hard about ideas but it’s an interesting question. If it was my blog the first thing I’d do is create a pubic news section like Style Gala where people can quickly post on-topic links of interest to SB’s audience. It would create a bit of a community feel plus add content without much effort. Though, all in all I think you’ve been doing well from a content view by posing questions via your posts to what makes a blog successful. I’d just keep that up. One thing I’d do is have regular review of a blog highlighting aspects about why I think it’s successful. It’s actually quite tough thinking up ideas for a topic you wouldn’t necessarily blog about yourself even though I enjoy reading about it.

Just thought of another idea, you could invite people to submit case studies of their experience if they launch a new blog, put ads on their blog, buy a blog or overhaul their blog. You could create the framework for the case study submissions and then maybe some commentary on the case study it self. It’s the sort of thing that would look out of place on the blog itself (unless it was another blog about blogging) but would fit in well here at SB and allow your audience to fully understand what the blogger’s process through an event was.

I wonder who would be up for such a thing?
    I’m ready to get moving.
    Are we there yet?

    I like how you think.

I was going to do a case study and submit it here if I bought The Poker Blog from Ben but I missed out.

You should know I am toying with the idea of launching a personal blog for the new year but really don’t want to give all the voices in my head a platform. As well as this I just can’t decide on a blog name/domain name that I love.

Anyway, I’m right-brained which makes me only good for thinking up the ideas. Actually following through and completing tasks is more for someone with a tendency to stray towards left sided cognitive functions.

    Hi Anthony,
I’m right brain too, and I find that if I choose the photo first it makes the writing a whole lot easier.

We could design an art blog for you–totally out of a pile of found photos. That would be cool.

What a community project that would be.

I’ll keep an eye out for some poker blogs.

What a wonderful surprise I find after being away from the computer for most of the holidays. Congratulations on your new venture. I know you will excel in this and any other project you choose to undertake. The energy and enthusiasm that you bring to S-B is one of the things that has motivated me to keep trodding along with my own blogging efforts. I’m sure most of us who frequent S-B get a good measure of inspiration from you. I can only hope to achieve a fraction of what you have done here.

    All the best.

Somehow that seems to work perfectly.

    Hi Kazana,
I hope that FineFools holds their own as well. I’ve offered Scrivs my brain if he needs it, but he’s got a good one of his own, so there’s no reason why he should need mine.

I’m thinking with a deep breathe they’ll pull through.
I’m glad there are people pulling for them. There’s lots of good people who deserve to win at FineFools.

    Hey Liz,

    Firstly, Happy New Year.

I come back from 8 days of blogging-free merriment and the you-know-what has hit the fan with FF et al.

I really have done zip on the blogging front so I’m just catching up on all the goings on … but, congratulations on breaking away from the mother ship and going it alone :-)

BTW, can you please resend the email you sent me - I accidently deleted it in my spam purge (heck, 8 days without checking my email and 500+ spam emails slip through :(
