How to see the invisible

I am a geek. I’m fascinated by the confluence of the known world and the unseen realities that intersect and shimmer in and out of our awareness each day. Everything that exists now has existed for eons ~ matter cannot be destroyed; it simply changes forms.

The difference between what we see and what remains “hidden” is our awareness and ability to act upon the knowledge we are capable of discerning at any given point.

“The universe is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.” ~ Eden Phillpotts

There are a couple of unrelated examples of this awareness and discerning that immediately come to mind. The first has to do with a logo ~ one which most people reading this post see every day of their lives. Has anyone seen the invisible arrow embedded within the FedEx logo?

It has been sitting there, just waiting to be recognized ever since it first appeared in 1994. In order to see it, however, one must train his or her eyes to see beyond the surface. Once the arrow has been seen, though; it’s impossible to look at the logo and not see it.

Another example is penicillin, of all things. The ancient Chinese and Europeans used a common poultice made with moldy cheese or bread to bind wounds in order to heal injuries. Although the mold contained bacteria that contained the antibiotic penicillin, the naming and typing of this solution went “unrecognized” for thousands of years.

Ignorance of a fact, reality or possibility does not negate its existence.

When you find yourself in a position where you cannot see the answer or the solution to a problem you encounter, ask to see your experience with new eyes. Literally say aloud, “Please allow me to see this situation with new eyes. What am I missing?”

It’s there. It’s just waiting for your wits to grow sharper, so to speak. If you have come to the end of your brainpower, reach out to others you trust for insights. Be humble in allowing others’ gifts to complement yours.

It’s all out there waiting for you. The tools of your success already exist. Trust in your ability to recognize what you need when you need it. Let it reveal itself to you.

When have you ever stumbled across a solution or solved a problem through recognizing something previously unseen? How did it affect your outlook? your business?
