Making Sense of Technorati Link Counts

Now That Things Are Settling Down
I just got an IM from Janice about a blog post just up at the Technorati Blog. Finally a complete explanation of what those numbers in the link counts mean. Click the title and take look.
It’s worth the read.
Thanks, Janice, for telling us!

Liz;
I love and HATE Technorati! For example, it has not updated my blog in over 30 days. It is also a bit pokey and slow at times.
I often find myself looking to BlogLines.com or Blogsearch.google.com because they are more accurate (up to the min) and load way faster.

I hear you

That was really helpful, Liz (although it’s still WRONG on my account - I have more links in the 180 day count than the “ever” count!).
I never knew that the rank was shared!!!!

Hi Ann,
They’re still working on the problems, but at least now we can speak the same language.
I never knew most of how this stuff was interpretted. I’m so glad that Janice shared this.

Hi Liz,
This was interesting. I noticed a leap in the links reported by Technorati a month ago or so. It was pretty exciting at the time.
Now that I have something to compare it to, it’ll be more interesting.
I’ve bookmarked this specific post. It’s that useful.

Hi Katie,
They were moving their servers to a new location is what I heard and they’re still doing stuff to shore things up . . . so I don’t think everything is quite shaken out yet.
TechZ said
Yeah, they had some work done on the servers, afaik, so things were a mess for a while, Kevin Marks was good enough to manually update some of our blogs, and hopefully everyone elses will be updated and reflecting the latest changes soon. Technorati has its ups and downs, just like we do

Hi TechZ,
Technorati’s big mistake throughout the past year has been not communicating what’s going on with its customers. Keeping us in the dark has only worked against them and made their job harder.
People fill in an open space of information with nagative . . . if they would say what’s going on. People would give them the benefit of the doubt.
Had they announced the server move. I wouldn’t have freaked the day I lost 82 links in one minute. I would have known to expect weird anamolies like that.

Isnt it always the way? Lack of proper communication leads to so many problems, its not like we have a shortage of medium…but a lack of will to communicate.
ME Strauss said
Yep, TechZ, it is.
It’s amazing what happens when people just talk to each other. We do that and look at how well it works.
