Open Comments Night 2 Mike is On
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 5:06 pm
It’s Like Open Mike Only Different
Here’s how it works.
- Comment ON ANY TOPIC you like. — Okay, okay, no mean language — I am the nice one.
- Keep your comment less than a book.
It was really fun last week. Come on and join in!
Update: Don’t try to read it all. It’s like any rambling conversation. Just go to the end start talking.

Ok, I’ll be the first since there is no starting time.
What do you think of the debate evolving around the Blog Owner and the Blog Designer?
Don’t pretend you don’t know either.
Joe [comment copied here from earlier post by Liz]
Advice Librarian said
Err, I’m sure Joe’s going to be annoyed with me, but I really have no idea what he’s talking about.
I’ve been waiting for Fitzmas and following Net Neutrality when I haven’t been hanging around here or forgetting to drink coffee, so I really have no clue.
ME Strauss said
Joe’s talking about the Tech Crunch redesign.
Check out this post at rwebdesign. It will bring you up to speed on the issue. Martin brought it up last night as something he wanted to talk about too.
Liz
Joe said
OK, AdLib, did you get a chance to read the post Liz gave you?
Joe
Joe said
I wrote a post on my blog today re the subject, but I made the conversation more about Professionalism…
Not about the debate itself
J.
ME Strauss said
Hi Joe,
A.L.’s very thorough and if you know that post there are several links to several other posts in it. So I’m sure he’s getting the whole story.
Joe said
I’m sure he is.
What’s your take on the subject?
I know you have an opinion, even if it is nice.
Joe
Advice Librarian said
Getting caught up as we speak - I love firefox’s tabbed browsing for research. I saw that post earlier in the day actually while I was still gathering Net Neutrality links - considering the time difference that would be about 1 A.M Chicago time.
I just didn’t pay much attention to it since it was mostly irrelevant to me chasing the net neutrality conversation all over. Just give me a second to read - I take it people didn’t like the new design?
ME Strauss said
Joe,
I didn’t like the old design much . . . I like the new design less. I’m not sure I know the facts about what’s going on betweeen owner and designer. I understand Rachel, the designer, did the design for Problogger and is well-esteemed.
Joe said
I didn’t like the way the Blog Owner dissed (is that really a word?) the Designer publicly…
J.
ME Strauss said
Can you recap the facts of the story?
Steve said
Yea, me confused… like normal Lol
Joe said
Liz,
From what I understand, Owner wanted what he wanted and that’s what he got.
I think he tied Rachel’s hands on the design and limited her to certain things like color, Ad placement etc.
No reason for a designer if you don’t let them design…
J.
ME Strauss said
I don’t know much either Joe.
Maybe we all should take a break to read up on it.
Joe said
After he started getting comments about the new design (especially that green, which he refused to change) he started blaming Rachel because she was the designer.
It’s all in his own comments on his personal blog.
J.
ME Strauss said
Have you read the survey over at rwebdesign? Several people have weighed in on the subject. Probably more since then.
Joe said
Actually, I started this no so much for the design aspects as the way the “professionals” handled the whole situation.
I feel that Mike handled it in a really bad way by highlighting another designers mock-up on his blog of what he wanted. (after the launch of Rachel’s design).
J.
ME Strauss said
You know. I’m not sure that we should be having a conversation about people here. We’re always so good about things and so positive. I don’t want to go down the road of deciding who’s a nice guy and who’s not.
I understand why you’re concerned and even upset Joe. You’re a great guy and I don’t want to make YOU uncomfortable.
But this isn’t our fight.
Maybe I’m just being sensitive because I’ve made my own share of mistakes in the past and I think we need to leave folks a place to stand. Mike’s a professional and has only had good things to say about me. Rachel I don’t know. I don’t even know the name of the guy who owns TechCrunch.
Oh wait Is the MIKE you’re talking about the guy from Tech Crunch. I feel so stupid. :0 I don’t even know him. I thought you were talking about a different Mike.
Advice Librarian said
Okay, I just looked at Rachel’s blog and the Technotes.
I’m going to have to restrain myself on account of being in Liz’ house and not my own, but I feel a flood of invective coming on…
Wimping out under the criticism and blaming the designer for your own choices?
Ghaa.
It was his freakin’ choice in the first place - if he wanted something different, he would have had something different.
Advice Librarian said
Okay, Liz - you’re the nice one
So, does anyone else have any embarrasing pre-senility stories to share, like the one currently on top of my blog?
Joe said
So true, it’s not our fight. Besides I said what I wanted on my blog without using names and tried that here.
Guess it didn’t work out that way…
Didn’t mean to be so verbal about something like that, as I said, I was trying to make a point on professionalism.
New Subject… How was your day?
Joe
Joe said
This is weird, by the time I wrote the last comment, Liz added to her’s and there were 3 more in between.
No wonder I never make sense…
Joe
ME Strauss said
Joe,
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was chastising you. I agree that there was a lack of professionalism in what happened there. I was just worried about something awful that happened a few months ago here that left a bad taste in my mouth. My problem not yours.
I appreciate your restraint AdLib.
The interesting point here is where is the line between the designer and the client. I’ve had problems with designers who thought they knew better before. It’s not fun.
Joe said
Liz,
Not a problem. It is your house…
J.
ME Strauss said
Hey, Joe,
I want you to be able to talk freely here. I just got “touchy” for a second. Scared might be a better word.
I trust you guys. There are lots of folks reading over our shoulders.
I’m still laughing about the fact that we all have a mike and talk at the same time.
Joe said
Kinda makes for some strange conversations, get the answer before the question is asked…
Must have something to do with time zones!?!
J.
Joe said
Maybe that’s the Twilight Zone… do-do-do-do
ME Strauss said
Or maybe we’re all just psychic!
Hey Advice Librarian,
Where’d you go?????
Advice Librarian said
Mmm, there’s that - personally, I have only rudimentary design and graphics skills these days. I can do some things with watercolours and pencils that I’ve been happy with, but I haven’t done anything with computer graphics since the Commodore 64 demo scene - so yesterdys redesign was entirely from finding a wordpress theme I liked.
But I accept full responsibility for the result anyway - I’m the guy who liked the design enough to put it on my blog… so it seems a bit odd for the site owner to blame the designer for his own decision.
But we weren’t going to talk about this any more, were we? Let’s see - anyone want the answer to my little riddle on Wintermute’s blog?
ME Strauss said
I wrote my answer on Wintermute’s blog. Didn’t I get it right???
Joe said
Can you repeat the riddle? I missed it the first time…
Joe
ME Strauss said
You probably should point folks to the riddle Ad.LIb. So that folks reading know what we’re talking about.
Advice Librarian said
Or how about this one:
On my playlist right now is
231 - Judas Rising, Judas Priest
232 - La tortura, Shakira
233 - Somewhere in Time, Iron Maiden.
Which of these three would I be embarrased to tell my friends about?
Advice Librarian said
Oh, right, sorry about that
It’s on WinterMute’s blog and - well, your answer fit the question, but wasn’t what I had in mind, so I left it open a little longer since Wintermute was okay with it.
Joe said
232 no reason, I just never heard of it.
Joe said
Ok, I agree with Liz, T-rati for the same reasons.
Joe said
Hey, where’d everybody go??? Betsons???
ME Strauss said
AdLib says there’s another answer. I was looking to see what that answer might be.
Joe said
Did you guys have Betsons in Chicago?
I forgot the question.
J.
ME Strauss said
No . . . I don’t know what Betsons’s is.
The questions is which one of his choices is different from the other two.
Advice Librarian said
I like the “what doesn’t fit” kind of question, as you can probably tell.
It highlights how people think about commonality and differences, and how your knowledge of the subject matter changes your perception of categories.
I took formal logic and mathematical group theory in university, among other things - can’t you tell?
ME Strauss said
I like mathematical and pattern logic myself. I posted a new answer to your question. By the way, this is a very popular feature on the TV show Sesame Street, too.
Joe said
Warren Ellis because he is on your list of blog you should read…
J.
Betsons was a commercial for a furniture store in Phila about 30 yrs ago
ME Strauss said
Oh. That’s who Betsons is.
The answer could also be Matt Cutts because he wants to be on his blogroll. Or ME because I’m on the list but not on the list.
Joe said
Only AdLib knows for sure.
ME Strauss said
I think they are all different.
Hey AdLib. How are they the SAME????
Advice Librarian said
And it’s Joe for the win!
The other two would be strictly for SEO purposes, but Warren Ellis is because I like his work as a writer - and if I wound up on his blogroll it would feel like a huge pat on the shoulder
Joe said
Yeah!!!
ME Strauss said
Ah, I see. So the question was really not one of patterns, if you look at it from outside. It was one of knowing how the questioner thinks. . . .
Advice Librarian said

Someone tawkin’ ’bout me? LOL…
Hmmm - an open mike eh? Let’s see, what can I sing?
How about - “Hands Off The Internet” bites! Telcos bite! Major oil co’s bite! Greed bites! Why isn’t New Orleans restored yet? Someone bites about that - who could it be? Have you been lied to today? Of course you have!!! Telcos, government, congressmen, the list goes on and on…
Oh! I know! Technorati is up to their old tricks again!
I like this…..
One last thing. JOAB’s traffic MUST be down, he’s commenting all over the place again!
ME Strauss said
HI Mark,
You know what an open mike night is about I see. I like your singing voice. What’s that you’re wearing???
Let me sing along. I love Mark, Joe, and Oystein. Where are the women commenters???? Are they too shy. My back up singers have hairy legs.
Joe said
I was going to get all technical, but I just figured, I have my favorite blogs list and would appreciate a link from them.
The other 2 weren’t on his list of blogs to read.
Joe
Joe said
There went that time warp again…
Anybody see it?
Went right by me, and 4 post went by at the same time.
I gotta go back and read them so I don’t feel silly.
Joe
ME Strauss said
That’s cool. There were no rules. A.L. likes to think about those things. You saw my reasons they were all about the people. That fits me too. Mark probably was singing his three favorite links.
What links do you lust for Mark?
Advice Librarian said
Exactly. All non-visual patterns we see are fundamentally a matter of perspective, background and experience, not something inherent in collection of objects.
It highligts something interesting about the way we humans think and how conspiracy theories are created - we think in stories and analogies that are profoundly subjective, because all such collections are based on subconcious choices. Your brain has extremely efficient but limited information processing capabilities, so it tends to devote more of your available thinking to patterns you’ve experienced as giving you productive results in the past.
So based on that - how do Liz and I think differently?
Mark Wade said
I’m wearing Net Neutral with a hint of dont regulate… Hands Off! LOL…
Aaarghhh - hairy legged back up singers? Those aren’t the women commenters are they? ITS A JOKE!
Mark Wade said
That Doc Searls you mentioned yesterday…
ME Strauss said
Do you say emotion and ratio as the Dutch do?
Joe said
A L You are linear…
Liz is cyclical…
J.
Mark Wade said
Oh - you said lust. Oh my…
Keep it clean! (Note to self)
Laughter, good stuff!
ME Strauss said
Mark,
There seems to be a way to do that. It’s finding something he wants to know about and putting his name in the post.
Mark Wade said
Now, doggone it Liz - don’t go basic on me [big grin]
Mark Wade said
What did your stats look like after you did this the last time? This has got to be a traffic blaster!
ME Strauss said
Sorry, I lost my head there. I thought you were serious. Now where was I?? Oh You’re wearing Doc Searls what?
Mark Wade said
I’ve got a topic for y’all…
How many different forms of phishing spam emails did YOU get today?
Mark Wade said
Serious? More like serial hehe
Ya’ see, right from jump street you said “It was really fun last week. Come on and join in!”
Mark Wade said
Hey! I showered today! Where’d everyone else go?
Advice Librarian said
Speaking of telcos - anyone have any reliable refrences for the $200-billion tac break they got some time ago “For building infrastructure”? I’ve seen that figure a LOT of places, but I haven’t been able to find an original source for it.
And does anyone know what the cable companies pay for land use rights? The telocs don’t have to pay that ‘cos of easement and right-of-way laws, so that’s a direct subsidy of them compared to cable. Plus there’s mentions of other tax breaks and subsidies all over the place, but again, not so much with the original sources.
The telcos aren’t saying a thing about it of course, since it undermines their case, but I’d like to see something a bit more substantial on it…
ME Strauss said
I got 29 spams and I love gmail. It’s so easy to hit the
DELETE FOREVER. i LOVE DELETE FOREVER. it feel better than paying my bills.
Advice Librarian said
Argh, that’s supposed to be tax break!
Joe said
Mark,
You are in the Twilight Zone.
There is a time warp wrapping around you.
It gets like this when people are all writing at the same time and the computer puts them in chronilogical order.
Joe
Joe said
And don’t correct my spelling.
Mark Wade said
Ad Lib - I had just read about some of those things today but honestly don’t remember any links to original sources. I’ll look during the night and tomorrow and see what I can find.
Vince Chan said
I got confused and posted to the wrong open mike night! oops.. Here’s mine (a bit long)
Mesh Conference ended today in Toronto with many blogosphere notables in attendance (Om Malik, Steve Rubel). 2 comments/questions.
1. I learnt a lot just by reading blogs on the conference, besides the networking, motivational, inspirational talk. What would I, a non-attendee miss? Seems like everything they talk about, we read everyday from feeds! We keep repeating ourselves!
2. Someone noticed a visible audience limitation in cultural, ethnic, or socio-economical make up. Even in a culturaly diverse city such as Toronto. And it took a person named “Lee to notice it. Guess what, nobody responded to that comment.
Hope nobody thinks I’m mean. Just trying to experiment if a comment will reach the mesh organizers through the power of the blogosphere. Believe in it!
Mark Wade said
I hear ya’ Joe… funny when you post a comment and a few have been added in between. Feels, well, funny, sort of…
Me? Correct your speeeling? Nah…
Joe said
Liz, how do you spell that chroni (time) word?
A L
That was mis-typing not mis-spelling.
J.
ME Strauss said
Hey AdLib, I have friend in Norway whose an online librarian looking for that answer . . . Oh! It’s you! Nevermind.
Hey VINCE,
GOOD IDEA, I hope it works.
Seems like an idea for a post. Are blogging conferences just for white guys?
Vince Chan said
By the way, I believe Om said at Mesh something like “the real value of the blog is not the content - it’s the comments - the real dialog that blogs create a platform for.”
Not sure if this can tie into open mcomment night!
Mark Wade said
“Are blogging conferences just for white guys?”
I sure hope not!
Vince, Liz is right - good idea for an article.
Joe said
Mark,
Sometimes I’ just sit here and hit refresh, just to catch up.
J.
Advice Librarian said
Maybe the good people over on Save the Internet could dig up specific references to show just how much the telcos are getting from the public already?
Mark Wade said
Me too Joe
ME Strauss said
Yeah, Om said that on the first day.
It was “Don’t read my content. Read the comments.”
We say here. “Half the show is in the comments.” HART coined that sentence way back when Successful Blog was still with 9rules and Scrivs didn’t have a comments feed.
Mark Wade said
Ad Lib,
In the last couple of days I have discovered more new resources than I could have imagined. They require some looking through. Save The Internet leads to a few but a search at Technorati leads to a lot more.
ME Strauss said
AdLIb,
I bet Jeff Pulver would know. He started Vonage after all. He’s the guy running the Internet Contest.
Mark Wade said
Scrivs? Scrivs?
Now you’ve done it. Cowboy oughtta be along any second now. Yecch!
Mark Wade said
Jeff started Vonage? Very interesting…
ME Strauss said
No you’ve don’t you used the Wild West word.

[...] Are Blogging Conferences Just For White Guys? Written on May 16th, 2006 by Vince Chan :: Just participated in the Liz Strauss’s Open Comment Night 2. Sort of like an Open Mike Night! I just noted somethings about Toronto’s Mesh Conference that ended today. Particularly I pointed to the fact that: Someone noticed a visible audience limitation in cultural, ethnic, or socio-economical make up. Even in a culturaly diverse city such as Toronto. And it took a person named “Leeâ€? to notice it. Guess what, nobody responded to that comment [on the Mesh blog]. [...]
Mark Wade said
hehe - I’m gonna back outta that Wild West right now. I could go on and on and on, well, you get the idea…
Vince Chan said
Couldn’t put a good idea to waste!
But I only have the question, no answers.
Mark Wade said
Vince took the suggestion
Advice Librarian said
Oh yes - I’ve dug up a few fun links for Liz from all sorts of places, like the Ask a Ninja site (loony, but fun link bait), Slashdot and others.
But digging up the original reference for some of the figures thrown around is sometimes like nailing jelly to a wall - the references turn circular or disappear behind the Lexis/Nexis wall.
Mark Wade said
Vince,
Seriously for a moment or two. That topic can be supercharged in a negative way. I’m not sure it is actually appropriate for a drawn out discussion in a forum like an open mike.
Vince Chan said
Well this will be the end of it! Carry on, I’d love to hear some jokes!
Advice Librarian said
CowboyNeal?
Mark Wade said
Ad Lib,
Liz’s Net Neutrality page has an enormous number of outstanding links and resources that can be a real chain of information to about anything you’d like to know about the Net Neutrality issue.
ME Strauss said
Good Idea on the Wild West, Mark.
Meanwhile, on Jeff and Vonage. Yes you should poke around his blog and its connected sites. He’s really got some interesting things there. He runs a tight ship and follows all of this links. I admire him. He works hard.
Mark Wade said
Ad Lib,
Actually, that would be Cowboy kneel…
That’s a joke Vince!
Joe said
Guys,
The internet is color blind…
People from all over the world of all races use it.

Probably not - none of you guys have noticed that I’ve got glasses, hair halfway down my back and a goatee, have you?
And yeah, I know about the net neutrality page - if you take a look at it, you’ll see that I’ve dug up some links for Liz on that
Advice Librarian said
CowboyNeal is the nick of one of the slashdot founders, actually

AdLib,
We may have to go to MICROFICHE…
I am sure those regulations and perks go back into the ’70’s at least. Maybe further.
Joe
Advice Librarian said
Heh, some of that goes back to the first telco laws from 1934, I’m sure - the telephone network neutrality regulations sure do.
Mark Wade said
Wow - Microfiche? Now it’s beginning to feel a bit Time Machineish…

I’m sure there are carry-overs from the age of the telegraph, when they were trying to catch all those bank robbers in the old west… LOL

Joe,
I added the update so that folks wouldn’t think that they had to read all of the comments to know what was going on even to participate.
ME Strauss said
I’m too old. I don’t know what IRC stand for.

Assuming that was a request for definition, IRC - Internet Relay Chat…. basically I was saying that this comment thread has the feel of a chatroom / lounge. Is that what we’re after?
Besides the obvious publicizing of the chat transcript for years to come!

I think he’s writing in between comments. He’s a multi-faceted librarian our Advice Librarian. I wonder whether he’s every met Marian from River City or if he’s seen The Music Man.

Thanks Vince,

J.
ME Strauss said
Oh Vince,
I’m only after a sense of community and some conversation. Blogging is lonely for lots of folks and can keep us tied into conversations about only what we write about on our blogs. I thought it might be fun to just have a place to talk to let people see who we are.
Joe said
And how many trombones were in the Big Parade?
Advice Librarian said
Heh, I’m not a real librarian, I’mn just a guy who reads and hung around in libraries a lot in my youth
Joe said
You don’t have to be a librarian to know an answer to music/movie/play trivia…
J.
ME Strauss said
Hey, AdLib, you’re our Librarian . . . you’re a whole lot cooler than any librarian I ever knew. So did you ever tell me whether you say emotion and ratio?
Please tell Joe there were 76 trombone in that parade and 110 cornets.
Joe said
I think you already did, Liz.
ME Strauss said
Oh yeah. I do that sometimes.
Vince Chan said
Funny Liz, your comment about lonely bloggers just reminded me of a Chartreuse post!
Remember, “you don’t have to feel uncomfortable”!
ME Strauss said
Yeah, I read that post! I commented on it. I think that’s the one where he “borrowed” my great line.
I really want folks to feel like this is their blog too.
Advice Librarian said
Hmm, never did answer that, no - when I speak English I’ve got an accent halfway between pure Oxford and Canadian backwoods. but I have no idea what those words even sound like in Dutch.
Joe said
And you live up to that line all the time…
I always feel welcome here.
Joe
ME Strauss said
Thank you, Joe.
No, Ad Lib, I mean, when you speak English and you are talking about the two opposite words . . . what is the opposite word for emotion that you use?
Advice Librarian said
Ah, the antonym of emotion? I tend to use logic in the colloquial sense, or rationality. Depends on the context.
I’d use sense and sensibility, but someone hijacked that for a book title
ME Strauss said
I like sense and sensibility too. Damn authors they do that all of the time. Just because they were born before us, they think they can take all of the the good titles.
Joe said
Well, I’d like to let you know

I am still reading 1/3 of these comments.. but, will start with:
May 16th, 2006 at 6:33 pm - I know, that was me, right? something awful that happened a few months ago .. oh well.. I thought it was forgotten ..or at least forgiven .. Liz .. I said I would make amend, and the children do not have to know… and, whatever that supermarket guy said.. It’s Not True! Don’t Believe him!! Well, sure I was ~IN~ a prison cell, but they certainly didn’t charge me with anything!
Whew! glad to get that off my chest!
*tap,tap* is this mic on?
Okay.. reading the next 2/3 …

So .. everybody’s going to bed? It’s only 9:50pm here in CST-ville /// So, I guess I’ll just post random thoughts now.
1) My cousin here in Winnipeg flew to the San Francisco conference early monday morning .. 2006 JavaOne .. I think I was more curious to why he would go, than what he expected to gain from it .. but, it’s a work thing .. Guru-School I guess!
2) I sure wish your designer would (A) make links with some color on it to designate it and (B) NUMBER these comments, so we know when we hit refresh what the last comment we read already..
3) Awwww .. I was kind of disappointed about the lack of discussion re: comment #(first-one) .. although, I’ve posted on 2 blogs that pretty much points out my views about it,, although I did think or reasons why I thought that way
4) I’ve burned the midnight hours many times since April 1st, and I’m finding that at night, I seem to squint more at either my screen, or at the work papers on my desk - when I look from one to the other .. I had these computer glare eliminator glasses all along (magnetic clip-ons to my glasses) but just remembered they were in my car glove compartment .. and it fixed the glare and (and invisible dots and black noises) instantly! It’s great.
5) Okay .. two refrigerators were on display at Future Shop .. the first one said to the other .. Eeeeeyyy .. Waaaazzaap? (like the Fonz) .. and the second one said Shaddup .. Be Cool . there’s a customer coming.
ME Strauss said
I think you do well on your own HART.
1. I don’t know what JavaOne is.
2. the highlights don’t do enough to show the links to you? I agree about the numbers. I’ll work on that.
3. I posted on another blog my opinion. It starts with the words “when he said if you would see from my poin of view . . .”
4. Glassess sound good.
5. Now I wish I had gone to bed. Because last week it was so much fun to wake up to your jokes. That was funny.

Blogosphere Issue of the Week:
The Blog Design Wars: Mike “The Web2.0 Kingmaker” Arrington Vs. Rachel “The Little Kiwi Designer” Cunliffe.
Summation of plot: both parties come out badly. mistakes all round. take it private.
The real issue: client over designer. whose in charge?
And here we thought it was all about content.
And as always, my opinion (we’re an opiniated bunch in the blogsphere, aren’t we?): sorry, the new design is fugly, whomever is to blame.

Yes I’m still awake.
I agree with your assessment of the situation.

I see that the West Coasters came to the party late tonight.
Liz - a great tradition in the making; Tuesday night open mike nights. Gotta love it.
In your pre-post (which I read about noon my time) you have to put in the time for the start so I know when to come and look. You know, like a TV show.
BTW, got a nice e-mail from Charles at The Kirk Report with the answers to my dinner questions. I’d try that one again as it requires people to think good stuff and it invokes good conversation.
For everyone else on these 150+ comments - if you could take any blogger to dinner, who would it be and what would you ask. ME always comes up with the good questions.
Off to my blog - have a great night everyone.
Scot

hey Liz … you’re awake.
“How do you always know the comment number”
Easy. I’ve been pre-programmed to scan. So I scan looking for something, anything that stands out. No one reads anymore. We scan. That, and when I’m off the hootch I’ve got a pretty good memory.
The assessment: what I love is the fans (I mean commenters). Go over to Mike’s blog (no, not Mike Sigers, silly!) and it’s mostly pro-Mike (well, mostly) and head on over to Rachel’s blog and it’s mostly pro-Rachel.
Don’t you just love “me too” comments. BTW, everything you say here … me too.
Think we can get to 200 comments? Will this post burst?
Scot - any blogger to dinner, eh? If Angelina Jolie blogs then I pick her.

Scott … I’m so West Coast that I’m all the way down in Australia, mate

Yes, it’s scary the world wide web. I’m a ham radio guy too and one of the nicest things about it is talking to Aussie hams. Great knack for the language.
SO (Significant Other) hates Angelina, Martin. We’d have to pick Jennifer instead.
And, I tried modifying my template to match up with TechCrunch; it was too wierd looking. But, I made a couple modifications anyway. You know, I just don’t settle.

Okay So I’m still up, but I’m going to bed.
Scot I heard ypu. I was just wondering earlier whether you had heard anything yet from Mr. Kirk. That’s so cool!
Martin,
I know I check in on the story . . . It’s one I’ve lived too often in the print world. There are no winners there.
Liz

PS I’m sleeping now. Don’t crash the blog!
Martin said
Scot … and who said the Significant Other was invited?
Liz … sorry, too late, I’ve got the keys in the ignition and I’m going full throttle. I promise I’ll give it back to you in the best condition I can … Good Night.

Thanks all of you for a wonderful night, and for not crashing the blog while I was sleeping. We’ll do this again next week. Maybe on Tuesday . . . or maybe another day.
Martin said
Nothing much happened while you were sleeping, Liz
I guess you yanks were too busy sleeping … wimps.
ME Strauss said
Yeah,
Do you think I should pick another night besides Tuedays?
Martin said
Don’t really know. It obviously works on a Tuesday seeing the conversing from the first two open mikes.
What about a Friday night - end of the week thing, let off some steam etc.,
Maybe you can push people a little to discuss the current issues of the week.
Either way you should pick a day and stick with - make it your own.
ME Strauss said
So. you think we need some concrete topics to discuss?
Do you think that would actually keep us on topic?
I was kind of liking the fact that folks get a chance to just dump some free flowing conversation like in a bar.
Talking to each other about anything without having to be a forum,
Martin said
No not really make it concrete, more like suggest that we can comment on current topics as well as anything we want. It can still be open-ended.
Notice how the first commenter and Hart tried to talk about some current issues. Look at the design drama this week. There’s been comments on dozens upon dozens of blogs. Wouldn’t it be great if we could hang out at the bar and bring it up.
So it’s like bloggers hanging out at the bar discussing whatever they want (current issues just as much as general chit-chat).
Just a thought.
ME Strauss said
Gotcha, as always you make totally sense.
Perhaps with your journalistic and sleuthful like ways you could make sure I include the subjects you see.
Martin said
Don’t make me blush now.
But you’re on: before you post each open mike email me and I’ll give you what I see as topics that has engrossed the blogosphere.
See, the actual post is very brief so you can easily add and guide people like:
“Comment on any topic or issue you want. We’re a bunch of successful bloggers hanging out at the bar so anything goes. Have fun, be nice and lets chat about anything and everything.
BTW, some of the biggie issues of the week were: ….. ,….. , ….. ”
Something of that nature. Obviously, we bloggers are all passionate about blogging issues - look at this week’s storm.
I bet slightly nudging the bar talk you’ll get much more people involved, probably more passion and more buzz .. . and who knows in which direction the bar talk will go.
And it doesn’t even have to be all on the negative stuff happening.
ME Strauss said
That would be soooo very cool. Then people who don’t know what to talk about would have something to think on and bring to the table. Yeah!
You are a prince as well as the king
Martin said
I’ll take King … but there’s only one prince in the blogosphere.
ME Strauss said
Well, I guess you have me there.
Mark Wade said
I don’t want to discuss concrete…
“We” already have a King - his name is Bush hehe…
Good Morning…
I’m going to work…
ME Strauss said
Good Morning,
This blog has two kings. There names are Martin and Michael. They received their crowns last November when a certain Knave beat up on this damsel in distress.
Mark Wade said
Ah Ha! Methinks I know of this knave! This knave’s traffic is down and “he” has a need for attention to feed his disorder and he’s commenting all over once again!
That knave? Yeah - couldn’t be but one knave!!!
Good for Michael and Martin!
This isn’t work hehe
Martin said
Mark, you’re a smart one
Bullseye with the Knave. Out of respect for our host I don’t say what I really want to say here about the Knave. The Knave is the past, long-forgotten.
You’re off to work and I’m off to bed.
ME Strauss said
Sleepy Swell Martin.
Don’t work too hard, Mark, and remember to color the sky beautiful colors today.

Hart … Wednesday this time of the year is supposed to be cold, but it was quite sunny today … so based on that logic I’d give your Wednesday a chance and let me sleep so I can get to Thursday.
You guys are in for summer and we’re heading into winter - urrrgh. Cold, winterey mornings … actually glad I’ve set myself up in a home office for the next 6 months at least. I can hibernate and still lead a bloody blogging good life.
Have a good day folks. I’ll catch you in your prime time.
