Questions to Get Closer to You: Question 18

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 6:31 am

Get Closer to You

This is a series of questions, I don’t know how many. They are the ones I ask when I help folks get closer to their personal identity.

A change of seasons is finally coming. What will you do with the new energy it brings?

I’ll answer first to get things started.

The new energy that comes with Spring in this part of the world couldn’t come at a better time. With SOBCon08 less than a month away and my consulting business gaining popularity, I really need to be flying these days. I’m using the energy that the sunshine is bringing to have new focus and determination to get things done in a more shining fashion.

    Hi Liz

I’ll use the new Spring energy to talk about ‘Spring-cleaning’ - not just business related (spring is THE season for redecorating and hence rather profitable for us if we ‘tell it right’) but also mind-wise.

Time again to sit in the garden after working hours and just ponder, ponder, ponder - free flow of thoughts with no distractions or interruptions. Boy, how I’ve missed that the last cold months!

    Hi Karin!
Yeah, spring does a lot for airing out our thoughts too, doesn’t it? I’m just now picturing me doing the same thing. Wow!

I’ll be using it to find more worl/life balance. This is the time of year my energy renews as I love to get out and get my gardens growing, but to do that & write for a living I have to balance work & personal time. SO this is the ideal stimulus to do that.

And then I think I’ll take Karin’s advice and spend some time sitting in my refreshed gardens with my freeflow of thoughts!! Thst should make work flow better in its own due time, too.

    Hi Mary!
it’s time to get out of our “cabins” and let go of “cabin fever.” Putting our hands in the dirt and our eyes on the sky with a new thought to our own potential is invigorating, whether we do it literally or figuratively.

Somehow spring coming makes a sense of balance seem more palpable in that we can finally feel the balance of the seasons. Relaxing to reflect in my thoughts is one way I personally refuel. Sounds like it does the same thing for you.

    Hi Liz!
Couldn’t have said it better myself….now if I can only get the frost out of this Massachusetts ground I can get some more balance back into my life!

    “Frost in ground - balance”
;-) well, it’s better than a swamp? A firm ground does make you grounded (but cold I agree ;-))

This spring will be a combination of getting our house/yard into order and upping the learning curve with Drupal. It’s all about re-organzation, streamlining, and getting rid of clutter no matter which task I’ll be working on at any given time :)

Yeah, Mary, I’m with you on getting rid of the “frozen.” The harbor out my window is water again. I’m waiting for the ground to start showing flowers. :)

    Hi Amie!
Getting seems so much easier when spring is here. Maybe it’s just the sunshine, but I like how easy it is to want to get rid of the clutter.

Sounds like you’re doing the same.

Keep pushing myself towards building the habits I need to implement all those ideas I came up with in the dormant winter - and make sure to take the baby out for walks.

    Hi Beth!
Taking the baby — and our ideas — out for a walk is a great way to add vitality to any day. Bet that becomes a habit . . . one that you’ll enjoy.

    Hi Liz,

SpringTime…. ah what wishful thinking. A bit too much snow here yet for that but it is inevitable.

I’m using this time of the year as a time to clarify a refine several goals and strategies for our life, church and business. For me spring brings with it the sustained shot of energy and clarity usually associated with my first espresso of the day.

Gotta be real honest - I don’t do a lot of peeking through the curtains. Despite my rugged good looks, I’m the type of geek that stays inside. A lot.

Hence, I don’t notice the seasons changing.

I do notice, though, that recently both my boys have started exhibiting remarkable maturity for their ages. One is six, and the other is nearing his first birthday. The older one is nearing the end of his first year of school, and I’m seeing both of them advance to the next stage of their lives.

One is leaving toddlerhood behind, and the other is becoming what is starting to strongly resemble a little boy, instead of the amorphous but lovable baby.

That, more than the changing season, is causing me to reflect on life and give me renewed energy in everything I tackle, from home life to my work and writing.

    Hi Mark!
Welcome! Great to see you here!

I’m geeky that way too — but I have a friend who emails me in the morning to remind me to look out the window at the sunrise. Yeah, I forget — go figure that.

Noticing the changes in our lives, seeing things and people around us growing, is a powerful motivation for taking a look at where we’ve been and where we’re going. Like checking the sunrise, without a reminder, I know that I can easily forget to reflect.

I’m putting on my list as something that’s important enough to do every day, because it’s how I know whether I’m making progress or sliding back.

And knowing is beginning of being able to direct our own path.

    You’re not a stranger anymore.
