Questions to Get Closer to You: Question 8

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 6:42 am

Get Closer to You

This is a series of questions, I don’t know how many. They are the ones I ask when I help folks get closer to their personal identity.

What changes will you make to make your 2008 simpler?

I’ll answer first to get things started.

I’m going to start with plan, and my plan is simple. I’ll do fewer thing with more excellence than ever before.

My plan works exactly the other way around I guess:
I do more in the excellent way I’ve learned this year ;-)

There’s no doubt from where I sit that you’re far ahead of me on some things. :)

It may be corny, but I just asked our admins to install some software to cut down on the spam. Reducing the amount of spam I receive each day will free up a lot of time throughout the year, and make my 2008 simpler. :)

As a whole, I’m trying to make the most of my time. Cutting down on spam is a part of that process.

    Hi Jamie,
It’s not corny . . . if saw my spam count, you’d know how seriously I take the whole spam thing. I’m with you. I can surely see how it would save time and make life simpler by that one easy step.

First cup of coffee must be the other one then ;-)

Seriously, don’t think anyone can be ahead of anyone, think everyone takes its own unique pace - due to circumstances, experiences, field of interest - expertise etc - in life, work and learning.
Of course, having a helping hand (more a gentle challenger) nearby who makes you see that focus is worth pursuing helps definitely. (Trying not to let this ‘challenger’ down is another ‘help’, definitely!)

    Hi Karin,
I think we all get ahead and behind ourselves. Sounds like a clever answer, but actually I do.

It happens when we think too much or too little rather than living in the moment and using the information and experience all around us, including that in the people we know. :)

My kind of philosophy! Have a post in mind that reflects on that - you know, a kind of 2007 posts, like we do at the end of yet another year - and that focusses (oops, here we go again) on learning, discovering and sharing. The more we do that, the ‘richer - wiser’ we become. At least, that’s my lasting impression of this year.

I would say a change in my attitude towards things. I made a resolution to stop procrastinating in 2006, and this year, I’ve learned and achieved a lot of things by fulfilling my resolution.

I have learned that MANY things are possible if and when we put our hearts in it.

So this year, I’m going to make a resolution to change my attitude to a more positive one, in order to achieve more success and be more productive :D

i have some habits to shift - kicked the little pieces of paper one these last few weeks ( oh if only you knew) another is taking a shower early in the day rather than when I have to go out to walk the dog - sounds silly but I think it would help me feel less like a …oh how to say it, a bag lady I guess - I’d like to feel ready for company to come over vs oh your coming over let me hop in the shower - while it’s a small thing to declare I feel impact wise it will be huge and it’s someting I haven’t been able to do

and then of course speaking to the new hat I intend to wear this year - still trying those on:

    Wow! Pelf!
I’m with Karin . . . your simple statement about “putting our hearts in it” is profoundly important to how our lives go.

Thank you for adding that to the conversation.

I can’t imagine that an outlook like that one won’t take you incredibly far. :)

    Hey Karen!
Sometimes getting simple means going through a little complication first.

Those changes you speak of will make big differences I bet. :)

    1. Finish some lingering projects/ideas.
    2. Get healthier
    3. Let go of some things I’ve wanted to dabble with - if they show up on my plate again anyway, then it’s time to do them.

I especially like the way that you’re looking at number 3. Maybe it’s because I’m thinking the same thing about some stuff on my plate. :)

To make my life simpler in 2008, I have decided to stop trying to be all things to all people. I have a few gifts and talents that I intend to concentrate on, and I am giving myself permission to say “no” to any drive-by guiltings by people who say or imply, “You really should be doing THIS instead.”

    Hi Sarah!
Got a plan for how to do that?!

  24. December 30th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
    Sarah said

    Now you’re asking ;-)

The main reason for me always being late is that I always find something else to do just as I’m leaving.

I think the best way for me to do this is to work on one thing at a time ie getting out of the house! Everything else can wait til I get home.
