Shine Even Brighter

Even the Humblest Star Still Shines
Just a few words, a reminder, that we’re all meant to be brilliant.
It happened recently — to a friend, to me, and to another.
A dark voice tried to steal light by making false and nasty statements. It’s a tactic straight from the playground. He’s never got past that, but we’re adults. We turned the channel.
As far as we know, the world didn’t appoint that one voice with the right to make public judgments based on no information.
Loud, dark voices can’t take your attention. So don’t give it to them.
Shine even brighter. Say thank you, and leave those dark voices to their playground. Shine until you remember the kids you knew who were even tougher.
Shine with the things you’ve accomplished and those you still will. Shine knowing that you’ll never need to make someone feel smaller to shine as bright as you are.

I prefer to interpret the “loud, dark voices” as the insecurity that they are, and then they become powerless. The louder they are, the more insecure.
Just know this, Liz, you are a shining light. Your words, blog, and actions demonstrate that fact very brightly to me — a person you have never met in person. You motivate, make people think, and brighten people’s day.

Nobody has power over you…except that which you choose to give them.
That’s been one of the hardest lessons I’ve learned in my adulthood, and one that I really hope to pass on to my kids.
Great topic,
Barbara

good advice! In this world it’s far, far too easy to become negative/nasty - far too easy to be swayed by negative voices.
Whenever reading your blogs I am reminded of the day, awhile ago, when I said “Liz, there are these new things called ‘blogs’ that I think you should look into…”

Hi Sage!
Thanks — the feeling is mutual!
As it was, I grew up in a neighborhood of boys, so hearing bully talk wasn’t out of my experience. What brought me into the conversation was when I saw a dark voice picking on a new blogger. Wasn’t a fair fight. Can’t have that.

Hi Barbara!
I know. The choice to walk away, rather than fight back, is sometimes the bravest one of all.

Liz, Your post is spot-on, we can move on, change the channel, and continue about our business. Those loud dark voices are of people frightened of change, afraid of the need to step out and be personable.
So thank YOU for continuing to shine that light in this area. I agree with @SpaceAgeSage - you are a shining light, and you do brighten our day.

Liz a mutual friend mentioned that that is his “MO” - seek out and destroy new bloggers. Disappointing that they feel this way when there is so much to talk about out there…

Hi Rick!
I have zero tolerance for folks who pick on the unaware. That just stinks. Jumping out from behind doors and “sucker punching” in bars is a cowardly MO any way that you look at it.
I figure more folks should know that we don’t have to play with bullies now that we’re all grown up.

Hi ewh!
Welcome to the conversation!
I agree with what you’re saying here. Funny I was thinking of that day too when I wrote the post that follows this one — about traffic, readers, and colleagues.

Liz, I think you could be the start of something with this slogan: “G.O.O.D.* Bloggers Unite!”
*Generously Overseeing Others’ Development

Hi Sage!
What fun that could be. First I call you and SOB and then label you as BAD, finally I as you to be GOOD.
Fun!!

Hello Liz,
I just had chime in to add my overwhelming approval to this post. Yes, yes and more yes. We all need to keep our eyes/focus on the good, so I really appreciate your words on this topic.
Thank you!

Thank you, Soultravelers3,
It’s so easy for the dark voices to bring us to their level. I want the sun shining all around us. Heck with them. They can stay where they are.
