Talking Decisions and Self-Promotion with JenChicago

You Just Watch
Friday morning, I met Jen Knoedl for an interview. We walked to a quiet part of Millenium Park. We talked about blogging, building a career that works, being a leader on your path . . . productivity, decisions, and SOBCon.
She’s left her corporate job to go for her dream — to be a talk show host Jen Chicago. Will she make it? She asks the best questions and edits like a fox. You just watch!!
UPDATE: JEN just posted it to the NBC 5 Street Team Blog Go See!
Here’s a bit she’s put together on decisions.
and another on Self-Promotion
No doubt.
Wow!

That was so fun, Liz! Thank you for all of your support.
I’ll see you tonight at the Social Media meetup!

Wow, Liz. I’ve never seen you on video before … your hands conduct a whole graceful dance of a conversation of their own as you speak.

I like your point that you have to make a decision and kill off other choices. Having too many fishing poles in the water can keep you from being really effective in any one area. I also like Jen’s point of pretending you’re a waitress offering coffee: you’re simply looking for those people who want coffee and are not offended by those who turn you down because they don’t want coffee.

I appreciated the point you made about the difference between hanging out with people who do what we do, and people who need what we do. So true!

Liz, I love Jen Knoedl! I was thrilled to hear that she had decided to pursue her dream. I was hooked from the first puppet video. What wonderful advice you offered Liz. It was also neat to see and hear you! Loved the decide, that will stick with me and is so appropriate for where I am in life right now. Thanks to both you and Jen!

Hi Anna!
Yeah, my husband remarked that I’m the only one knows who does that. It helps me think.

Hi Marelisa!
I do agree about too many options being a problem. . .
That bit of advice from Jen about offering coffee is fabulous, isn’t it?!! I so loved that she added that!

Hi Davina!
I’ve become really conscious of that and my business has grown significantly.

Good afternoon!
A great setting, a good friend, and well-chosen questions made for wonderful conversation. We both enjoyed ourselves that day.
Thanks!

Thanks for the great videos. I appreciated your insights in both. Particularly, as kind of a word-nerd, I really loved the etymology discussion around the word “decide.” Makes sense… although a decision does have a feel of permanence when you consider it that way. Maybe it’s the one “-cide” you can actually reverse?

Hi Jennifer!
It was a good day when the difference between decisions and choices came into a conversation I had with a great friend, Lisa Gates. Some decisions we sure can reverse. Others, I’m not so sure.

Liz,
I referred to your decide conversation today on Brett Legree’s 6 Weeks blog. He was talking about “Burning boats” Viking Style. It’s in the comments. Loved these 2 conversations. Look forward to more goodies like those.
Especially important was the simple hanging out point. Learning the ropes of blogging naturally leads to hanging out with bloggers, but thanks to Brian, I make it a point to visit more online “trade” sites in my field. I notice more and more art institutions/writers jumping into the online interactive fray. And I have found a really good new cross-discipline site called BlogRivet that is asking some good questions especially just today on the future of blogging and it’s role. I think you would like today ‘s post. I just read it and it’s meaty.
all best,
Jan

Hi Jan!
Just got back to this because of the sitemeter fiasco. That does sound like somewhere I should check out.
