Say, Liz, how is it that “Bellringer Public Relations” and “Six Degrees Of Inspiration” have the same url (goes to Bellringer)?

Well, Scorpia, it is because Liz is sick and inept at the very same time. :)

I’ll fix that. Nicholas deserves better. :)

    Thanks !

    Hi Liz,

I just wanted to say thank you for considering me to be an SOB. In the past, it wasn’t always that unusual for people to call me an SOB-but a different type of course! :-) As more people come to Blogspoke I’m finding it challenging at times because some commenters still think I am a ‘Son of a bitch’ (just from reading my words). I don’t know about you but this new way of writing, with constant random collaboration, judgment, criticism, and even ridicule, can be hard for those of us who are a little overly sensitive.

I’ve had a few comments that I’ve chosen to delete lately, because I feel they have no positive merit/relevance to a worthwhile discussion (like those you speak of as being so important to human society). I wonder if someone very popular like yourself ever gets negative comments, and if so, what do you do/how do you feel about it/ how does it affect you?

I imagine for writers in the old days, they mainly spent time alone writing their books. The only time there was an opportunity for criticism came when they attempted to publish, or after they were published. It sure is weird on the Internet, when you attempt to open yourself up to the world-anyone and everyone can quickly and easily cut you down, and often for reasons unknown.

I really appreciate your affirmation, am sorry that I didn’t thank you right away, and am thankful for any positive encouragement I can get. Any advice would be great…Do writers have to become teflon-coated warriors to make it through this so-often destructively critical world?

    Hi Jesse,
Take heart. This may sound strange, but if they are taking the time to write a negative comment it means they took the time to read what you wrote and that you moved them — challenged their thinking.

I guess that after years of publishing before I came to blogging I might have been more prepared for the negative response and less inclined to take it personally. I’ve sat at many meeting tables where folks didn’t know what they were talking about, but by virtue of their job role had the “right” to criticize the writing put before them. I learned to filter out opinion, to take what was worth keeping and knock the rest off the table (in my mind) with a simple thank you.

Today, I still find “thank you” my most powerful response. It’s followed closely by “you’re right.” I’d sure like to talk with you about how I handle such things.

No worries, Jesse, about when you got here. I know it takes me a long time sometimes, and sometimes I never even find a link.

No, it’s not teflon you need to protect you. It’s hope, faith, and positivity. :)

    Be’n an SOB doesn’t Suck!

On behalf of Mark Stevens I’d like to say thanks for recognizing his true character! Working with him on the Unconventional Thinking blog has proven to me and thousands of readers that he is truly an SOB. And you have validated that with this recognition.

With tongue firmly planted in cheek I would like to thank you for allowing me to say to Mark, “You’re an SOB.” and really mean it!

Actually it is rather sobering to be included in this auspicious list.

    Thank you,

You’re quite the public speaker and I’ve enjoyed your tribute to Mark Stevens. Please feel free to come back to sing the praises of any SOB any week of the year.
