The Mic is On: It’s about Finding Clients, Customers and Sponsors

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:00 pm

It’s Like Open Mic Only Different

The Mic Is On

Here’s how it works.

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.

There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.

Where do we find ‘em? . . . clients, customers, and sponsors?

Word of Mouth Marketing

Are they. . .

Would they be . . .

Mother Goose and Dr. Seuss don’t know, but we do.

And, we’ll talk about whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)

Oh, and bring links about finding and serving customers to share!

    Hi Liz
    Great to see you!
Recently I’ve figured out that doing something forced like that isn’t about me. I’ve switched my mindset to “I’m doing them a favor. I’m going to say what will make it easier for them to come up to talk to me during the networking part. They’re probably feeling as shy about it as I am. I’ll give them the information they need to know I’m approachable.”

    Rick,
I’m contacting sponsors for SOBCon and what I’m finding is they’re open to ideas. Actually, I’ve found a unique value proposition that has them calling me. Very cool.

I’d put together an offer for the companies who are a good match for the content on your blog. If you want, I do know how “write irresistible offers.” Grin.

Actually so do you. The key is sitting on the same side of the table as the people you wnat to sponsor you blog. If you want to know more about how I’d go about it, email me. Please do.

  154. February 19th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
    ME Liz Strauss said

    So, Karen,
Put yourself in a sponsors shoes. If I put an add on your blog and you get 4000 page views a month. And lets say thats about 2600 visitors or so. That’s an average of about
133 times my ad will be shown every day for a month or 86 people who will see it each day for a month.

So if you think in terms of .25 a view that would be $67/mo or .50 a person would be around $45/mo.

Now, would you spend that for an ad on your blog. Can you build a story about why your blog audience is worth reaching for that cost? :)

Char: Hi there! Thanks for welcoming me. This cafe thing is entirely new. I’ve been meaning to participate for quite some time but never found the time to be here at the right time. Har har har. Karen Putz alerted me to it when I IM’d her.

As for my browser not accepting cookies…that could be. How do I fix it?

And Karen is educating me about how to submit a comment and then hit the refresh button. I guess I came at a night when Liz’s server was acting up. Oh well! At least I’m here.
