The Mic is On: It’s about Shiny Object Syndro-

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 6:58 pm

It’s Like Open Mic Only Different

The Mic Is On

Here’s how it works.

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.

There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.

Oh Look!

Surely, you’ve heard of Shiny Object Syndrome — that behavior that allows any small change to be a distraction. Are you plagued by it? Shiny objects seem to be everywhere these days. Tonight we’re talking about shiny objects:

shiny object

And, whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)

Oh, and bring example links of shiny objects to share.

I live 20+ miles from downtown St. Louis. I travel nearly weekly into town for one thing or another, because few things are held out in my town/county. Especially including tweetups, blogger gatherings, etc. Those fall into the never category.

I offer to host a tweetup this week that’s more local to folks in my county. Wow, you’d think folks would either ignore it or say they’ll show up, at worst say they’ll pass right? Oh no.

Folks have had to come out and belly ache about how it will be too far. How they can’t make it that far out on a week night. Others asking why I didn’t hold it closer in to down town! WTH???

It’s not like we didn’t just have a tweetup last Tuesday in their area. Good grief.

    WTH??!!?!?!?

    So, Joe,
Imagine brain freeze and being really sick to your stomach with a dull pained knot in middle one of your shoulder blades and imagine that any light makes you feel sicker. That’s sort of what a migraine is like.

What about big changes being a distraction? I guess it depends on how you define large or small. Lately, we’ve had stuff going on that has kept me from working on my blog. It really bothers me. I know I need to be more consistent with it, but then after a while something comes along that just completely keeps me from working on anything.

Hi Todd - brain freeze 101 - the upper pallet “freezes” in your mouth and it’s closet to the brain. So to “thaw” it out, stick your thumb in your mouth and hold it against the upper pallet - the warmth of the thumb helps to return all to normal temperature. It’s not instantaneous but darn faster than waiting it out:) So go grab that Klondike bar:)
