The Mic is On: We’re Having a Cookout Tonight!
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:00 pm
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
Here’s how it works.
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.
It’s a Picnic! It’s a B-B-Q!!
Let’s get some friends and enjoy the evening in the backyard.
- What shall we eat?
- What shall we drink?
- What shall we talk about, besides the neighbors?
- Bring your kids, your pets, and your fireworks too.
image: sxc.hu
And, whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)
Oh, and bring links of your favorite CookOut things to share!

Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hi Liz, happy summer!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Joe!
and Mighty!
Happy BBQ!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Glenda!
What do you like at a cookout?
Joe said
Hey Glenda, waddaya havin? Sidebr’s open, drinks, Klondikes, dances?
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Joe,
The good weather seems to suit you!
Trisha said
Hello everyone!
Trisha said
The weather was terrible here this weekend - what it like where all of you live?
Brad Shorr said
Good evening!
Joe said
Yeah Liz, I’ve always been an outdorrsey kinda guy. The weather turns nice and I am OUTDOORS!
That’s why I bought the lappy (and for traveling to Chitown)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hey Joe, a “special” Klondike sounds good to start
Michelle Vandepas said
Hey Liz…. I’m in CT instead of CO right now. Heading up the coast to MA and maybe to ME( (Maine) Where to go eat ? What to do? Anyone have ideas?
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Trisha,
It’s been very changeable here. First it’s spring, then summer, then better get out that jacket.
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda!
I had the Heath Klondikes on the boat. They’re my favorite
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Joe, can you explain being outdoorsy to hubby, please.
Michelle Vandepas said
Cold Rainy and windy here in CT.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Michelle!
Lots of great places to eat along the coast there. Ollgonquit (who knows how to spell that?) is especially nice. So is Portland, ME.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Brad!
So cool to see you! Happy summer!
Joe said
Mz G, any special kinda special Klondike? I got Strawberry, CHOCOLATE, Special Guava, Margaritta?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Sounds good, Liz. Hubby says hi and asks if you’re coming to BlogWorld.
Timothy Johnson said
Hi all… I’ll fire up the grill… when can you all be over?
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi to the hubby,
Tell him it would seriously bum me out to miss a chance to see him.
Michelle Vandepas said
I Googled it.. This place? Ogunquit.. in ME.
Sounds great .. if it is warm.
We may make it that far.
(…on the subject of Google. I Googled something doing research….and I CAME UP. Mind blowing. Weird…)
Brad Shorr said
Hi there, Liz. (First time Open Mic-er.) Is it summer? It felt like it was going to SNOW this morning. However, I could still eat a Klondike.
Trisha said
Yesterday I was able to go outside for a while and do some gardening - but otherwise we had a lot of really hard rain over the weekend.
Michelle Vandepas said
Klondikes come in flavors????
ME Liz Strauss said
Michelle,
Yeah, isn’t that weird. That’s how I felt when I looked at my stats and saw that folks were finding me by Googling just the word liz
ME Liz Strauss said
I know what you mean Brad.
Last night we had all of the windows open because it was so warm out. This morning it was colder than I cared for.
Timothy Johnson said
Hey all… if we’re going to talk grilling, THEN LET’S TALK GRILLING.
What kind of Iowan would I be if I didn’t share with you the WORLD’S BEST GRILLED PORK CHOP RECIPE:
http://www.lhj.com/recipe/recipedetail.jhtml?recipeId=R013168
Michelle Vandepas said
Oprah, Madonna, Fantasia, Liz……
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Tim,
Do you name the pig before you grill him.
Tim: “Where were you, piggy, on June 23rd at 8pm?”
ME Liz Strauss said
Michelle,
You’re too funny!
Brad Shorr said
Timothy, that recipe looks tasty. I ate lots of pork chops when I lived in Iowa - they were the best.
Michelle Vandepas said
Cookout talk:
Shrimp, Skewers of Veggies, Salmon - best if you are in Alaska and just caught it fresh…. marshmallows. Do they count?
Joe said
(Miss G’s) Hubby, there is always a reason to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Firsty, after a long cold lonley winter (know the tune?) it is nice to get a breath that is not months old, even with air freshener.
AND you can enjoy the sunshine, the flowers, the clean and fresh fregrances.
Even the Spring Rain has a special feel and smell and taste to it (yes I still open my mouth and let the raindrops hit my tongue).
If you need more of an explaination than that, try a Boat Ride on the Chicgo River in the Rain once. I think that would do it to convince you that OUTDOORSY is a good thing!
Timothy Johnson said
Yes, Liz, I name the pig. I take a page from the Crash Davis school of thought: I name him “Meat”
Suzie Cheel said
BIT COLD HERE TO THROW A prawn ON THE bARBRIE,
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Sorry, distracted with all these time zones. Joe, a special gauva sounds lovely.
Suzie Cheel said
hI EVERYONE
sounds like a nice cold beer would go down well
ME Liz Strauss said
Ah Suzie!
When it’s cold, that’s when you have Des do it!
Trisha said
Are many of you using friendfeed yet? I think its pretty cool, I especially like the ‘rooms’.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hey Suzie, that WAS a quick one!
Mel T said
Hi all! I thought I’d jump in on this one, I’m currently living in Australia, not sure if it’s BBQ capital of the world, but it sure feels like it! LOL
Suzie Cheel said
he is the BBQ king, not me
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Trisha!
I’ve been invited into some rooms, but haven’t spent any time there yet! What’s so special about them?
Suzie Cheel said
@ Glenda, Didn’t quite get there, looks like a morning in the jammies
I see google ads invited themselves along too
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Mel!
Welcome! Yeah we could use some lessons . . . Where in OZ are you?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Thanks Joe, i’ll pass that onto hubby. To him, outdoors is for getting from here to there. He doesn’t like bugs. Ugh.
Mel T said
Hi Liz, I’m in South Australia.
ME Liz Strauss said
I love great potato salad, deviled eggs, and watermelon with salt.
ME Liz Strauss said
Mel,
South of Melbourne?
Lorne?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
#40? Pardon, Miss Liz?
Suzie Cheel said
Hi Mel, I an on the gold coast, where in SA?
Trisha said
@Liz - I like the way the rooms work - seems fast and easier to use than a forum.
I tried to invite you to a group too - but I don’t know if it went through or not.
– oh no - I accidentally subscribed to this again!
Joe said
Ahhh, a place I’d love to visit for a BBQ… Melbourne!

#52 Glenda!
[giggle]
Joe said
This is weird, I just got a rollup keyboard to use with the lappy and it is totally strange type of typing.
anybody else have one of these things?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
yes Joe, I have rollie. Great.
Suzie Cheel said
@joe,
Material touch!
@Trish
trying to find the thread about rooms
Suzie Cheel said
@ Glenda first chipin of the day,
ME Liz Strauss said
Trisha,
You don’t appear to be subscribed to this one. Are you really getting the comments?
Joe said
Glenda, it just feels strange compared to the lappy’s kb. Probably because I can actually type on it without cramming my fingers so tight I am always typing 2 letters at once.
ME Liz Strauss said
BTW, Trisha,
I don’t think I got a room invite from FriendFeed that was yours.
Mel T said
I’m in Port Lincoln, do you know it?
Hi Suzie, aw we visited the gold coast in summer, it was wonderful!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
joe, try typing with only your left thumb. All will feel fine.
Suzie Cheel said
@ Mel,
No I think it is pretty and a Fishing Village?
only been to SA a couple of times.
Love Adelaide,
yes it is paradise her, we moved from Sydney nearly 4 years ago
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Mel!
Port Lincoln sounds like a place we stopped when we were driving. Is that possible?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
So…who hasn’t heard about the Team World Tweet-a-thon yet, which all started at last week’s open mic night?
Timothy Johnson said
Glenda, I bet you and your left thumb would do better than I and all ten of my fingers on my current editing undertaking.
Angela Maiers said
A bit early, but I’m bringin’ some Iowa sweet corn to the party. Howdoo all
ME Liz Strauss said
Angela!
I very much like sweet corn with LOTS of melted butter.
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda!
I saw it tweeted and retweeted this morning.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Mr T, editing is painful regardless of number of digits used!
Joe said
That’s a challenge only YOU can give and win any bet put on the table.
I have a hard enough time using all my fingers to get the words out and still make sense.
You do it one thumbed and still write better posts than I can ever hope to.
(But I do like my new KB)
Michelle Vandepas said
@Glenda, is that tweetathon the same Ning thing you sent me re: LOA and Suzie?
Timothy Johnson said
I’m on the last chapter, Miss Glenda. I’m about to send out for my next round of editing.
Trisha said
@Liz - I was subscribed - but I must have unsubscribed before you saw it.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Liz, any suggestions for getting the word out quickly? Many time zones left to cover for the worldwide twitter event.
ME Liz Strauss said
Trish,
You’re getting tricky.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Michelle, yes it is! Interested in participating?
Mel T said
@ Suzie and Liz, it’s one of the main fishing capitals in Oz I think! Yes, it’s very pretty.
If you find Adelaide on the map and look directly to the left, Port Lincoln is on the point of the peninsula.
Suzie Cheel said
@ Michelle
Yes it is,
also there are prizes today and everyone who makes $20+ and upwards contribution gets a free teleclass and a link for a year at The Abundance highway $ 349 value A great deal
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Aww Joe, thanks. It comes down to making the most of what you do have. One thumb has gotten me this far. Mom says I should insure it with Loyd’s of London tho.
Michelle Vandepas said
Glenda DM me and tell me how to participate. I didn’t quite get it…:)
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Mel!
Didn’t make it that far, but you’re making me wish I did. Port Lincoln sounds beautiful. I’m going to have tos start polishing this boomerang I wear around my neck. So I can get back there.
Suzie Cheel said
@ glenda you are so funny, they should put you on the stage
Joe said
Now that’s a thought MZ G, something that valuable should be insured by the best!
Timothy Johnson said
Hey all… calling it an early night. Have a great evening of grilling and chilling
ME Liz Strauss said
Tim,
You hardly ate anything.
Are you feeling okay?
Todd Jordan said
Howdy! Lets put on some burgers and brats, and ice cold sodas!
Joe said
Hey Todd, For some silly reason I read Brats as Brats, I don’t know if Liz would approve of putting kids on the Barbie!
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
That just made me think of a root beer float. Oh how I’d love one of them about now.
Todd Jordan said
Success is success, but a full meal to top it off..now that’s life.
Todd Jordan said
Hey Joe, not unless their baby goats maybe.
Floats sound good too Liz.
How is everyone? Stuffed yet? Telling stories round the grill?
ME Liz Strauss said
I like the way you’re thinking, Mr. Jordan.
Todd Jordan said
Hiya Michelle!
Todd Jordan said
Glenda, thanks again for the card. A bright spot on the day.
Suzie Cheel said
Anyone else like BBQ octopus- yummy when marinated with ginger garlic, mirin and soy
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
@Suzie, now what did I say?
Who’s up for some frisbee?
Todd Jordan said
I’m up to try that Suzie. How about bbq eel too?
And yeah, I’ll have a go at that frisbee as well.
ME Liz Strauss said
Not a big fan of octopus, squid, or anything that tastes like a slimy eraser.
Joe said
Mz G, don’t forget that you have to save some energy for the upcoming dances!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
TOdd, most welcome, my friend.
Todd Jordan said
If at first you aren’t full, eat more bbq.
Mel T said
LOL @Liz, yes you should visit! It would make a very relaxing holiday.
Have you lived in Oz all your life? I’m here temporary, from Northern Ireland originally.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Most definitely, Joe. Some mumbo? Or is it mombo? Whatever. You know what I mean!
Todd Jordan said
I need to visit down in Oz as it were. Just need to find money and time off at the same time.
Todd Jordan said
Glenda, how about salsa or samba?
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Helloooooooo everyone!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
[sneaks up behind Todd with her mega water pistol...]
ME Liz Strauss said
Mel!
I live in Chicago, been to Ireland, but not Northern Ireland. Seems I keep missing where you are.
Joe said
Hey Karen!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Karen!
Great to see you!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Sounds good Todd.
Todd Jordan said
Hey Karen!
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
We had a great BBQ this weekend– pork steaks on the grill with my secret sauce.

Michelle Vandepas said
Hi Karen, Bye Karen and Liz and Glenda and All.
Gotta go. Kid up toooo late again due to my computer habit. Night.
Todd Jordan said
Karen has secret sauce? You’d better be sharing.
ME Liz Strauss said
[Liz looks in another direction]
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Hey Todd, Liz, Joe, Glenda, and everyone! I’m in the middle of wrapping up an online board meeting and will read through the BBQ stuff in a sec… looks like some good food here.
ME Liz Strauss said
Good night, Michelle,
Thanks for coming!
Todd Jordan said
Laters Michelle!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
hi Karen!
Joe said
For some reason I feel like dancing tonight, maybe cause Mr T left earlier than usual.
Anyone up for a Mambo, Cha-cha, heck, we can even do a line dance!
Liz? Mz G, Karen, Suzie?
Suzie Cheel said
@ Liz
I think you would like this BBQ style octopus, not at all slimy.
Have you thought of using another platform for open mike, I keep losing where I at
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
[strategically hides, waiting for Todd to pass by]
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
But Todd, if I share, it won’t be a secret anymore and then everyone else will be serving this divine, heavenly “oh, my, gosh” sauce.
Mel T said
@Liz oh I see, you’ve visited Oz you don’t live here!!
Yes, I must say you missed out if you didn’t visit NI (of course I would think that!!!)
ME Liz Strauss said
Dancing the flamenco
Todd Jordan said
[[found the hose and now looking for victims...um partyers]
What might be a better platform?
Michelle Vandepas said
Hey Hi Todd! I lost track of who was here.. Bye..:) and Joe and Suzie and…
Night for real this time.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Mambo! That’s it.
ME Liz Strauss said
Mel,
I used to come to OZ and NZ for 3-4 weeks every year on business. The weekends were for seeing the country.
Todd Jordan said
Wow. I need to be in a biz that takes me there Liz.
Suzie Cheel said
@joe, a little tango
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
[wondering how far her mega soaker really shoots]
ME Liz Strauss said
[Liz accidentally soaks Glenda]
Todd Jordan said
So they BBQ down in Oz too right? What’s the favorite bbq down there?
Mel T said
@Liz and Todd, yes it sounds like a wonderful job. But, perhaps blogging full-time is better, more flexibility!
Todd Jordan said
[[soaks Glenda, not quite on accident]]
[[knows the hose goes pretty far]]
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Mega soakers? Let me grab my kid’s!
Mel T said
@Todd it has to be “snags on the barbie, mate!!”
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
That would be my ultimate goal, to blog full-time and make a living at it.
ME Liz Strauss said
Ah Mel!
Full-time blogging is labor intensive. Don’t let things fool you. Glamour is only glamour from far away.
Todd Jordan said
@Mel snags being sausages of some type?
Joe said
[Joe turns on the Mega Sprinkler System and Soaks everyone, including himself]
ME Liz Strauss said
Karen,
I’ve been writing “on demand” for decades . . . it’s work any way you look at it. My goal is to not have to write, except when I wanna.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
I’d rather be paid through writing than what I’m doing now, pushing videophones.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
[rofl and runs to the bathroom]
Todd Jordan said
Not sure I want to be an on demand writer either.
Mel T said
@Liz, yes I can see how it would be labor intensive, I’m part-time at present.
@Todd that’s it. Although I don’t think I’ve ever heard an aussie actually say that!
Todd Jordan said
@Karen - we so need to get you going pro and selling yourself as a speaker and author!
Todd Jordan said
@Mel I’ll eat anything at least once if it came off the grill.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Todd, believe it or not, I’m a speaker for Hands & Voices
ME Liz Strauss said
Yep,
the idea is to have enough variety that you’re writing what and when you want to.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Todd, believe it or not, I’m a speaker for Hands & Voices but I don’t get too many requests.
Todd Jordan said
Karen, doesn’t pay though or not well?
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
It’s ok, we charge $1,000 for an all day session/training. $500 if our chapter co-sponsors. Problem is, there’s no money in my field.
Todd Jordan said
I get you on that Karen. It’s not that it won’t pay, but it’s hard to find people with money enough to go to the sessions.
Maybe you should throw in bbq.
ME Liz Strauss said
We have to show people why it’s to their benefit to invest in what you offer.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Hmm, Todd, bottle up that secret sauce and give it away at my sessions?
Joe said
Todd, I agree, we have to get Karen AND Glenda to speak at SOBCon next year (or any other conference that appreciates the effort it takes to get where they are).
I think they could inspire people to get off their duff and do things for themselves.
Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now, but I get something from knowing them and I’m sure others would too.
Todd Jordan said
Yep Karen, don’t be afraid to bug us if you have some ideas that need support or someone to help you thrash them out.
Todd Jordan said
That’s the ticket Karen, more sauce
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Karen, with the “other” blog, we can earn three-figures per month. That’s half way to six-figure blogging!
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Glenda, I love how you think!
Todd Jordan said
LOL Glenda!
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Todd, I may take you up on that. I have some ideas I’m churning around.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Hey Joe, Glenda and I have to get off our duffs first. Glenda seems attached to her chair, for some reason.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Joe, I’m up for 20-slides-in-5-min at Sobcon09. Just need a topic. My Journey to Sobcon?
Todd Jordan said
Karen, I’d love to do some posts about how hearing impaired net users deal with social media. Perhaps one on your or others experiences, and the one on how those folks creating social media can appeal to the hearing impaired as well.
Todd Jordan said
Definitely your journey to SOBCon.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Karen, ASL classes via ooVoo! Start with SOBconers so they can speak your language next year.
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Todd, it seems like a lot of deaf and hh people aren’t up to speed about social media– very few on Twitter for example.
Todd Jordan said
Glenda - what a cool idea!
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Glenda, funny, I’ve been thinking about that, plus a mentoring business using ooVoo…
Todd Jordan said
Karen,
How could I and others help improve that situation. Maybe if we heard first hand what the challenges are and could share that, we’d get a change in the way folks think about creating media.
ME Liz Strauss said
I think Karen and Glenda should do a comedy routine in 20 slides in 5 minutes, while Joe dances. j/k
Todd Jordan said
You folks all have my email right?
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Todd, I’d have to think about that. I’m doing an article for Lorelle about the web and deaf/hh people, maybe I can expand on that.
ME Liz Strauss said
Karen and Glenda,
You have all of the brain power to start an amazing business.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Karen, if I’m not attached my chair, i’m on my bootie on the floor! Not a good view from there!
BrainBasedBusiness said
Blogging, Brains, and Business Mix…

Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Yeah, Liz, slip Glenda a Long Island Iced Tea and she’ll spew out jokes, right Glenda?
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
And hey, Glenda, can we program Kate with a slur?
Todd Jordan said
Well, it’s 9 PM here. Time to take a social break. I’ll say my see you laters now.
Someone be sure to clean up the mess and put out the fire before you close up.
Take care.
Joe said
Liz, I think Karen and Glenda are already planning presentations for SOBCon09. BE READY, I think you may have two dynamo’s on your hands!
Karen Putz / DeafMom said
Nite, Todd. I need to go round up the kids and check for homework. It was great chatting here– I’ve missed it!
Nite Glenda, Joe and Liz and everyone else still here!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Sounds like I need to interview Karen re social media barriers for Accessibility 100.
Terry Starbucker said
Hi all! I could smell the BBQ all the way over here in Los Angeles! My favorite - Baby Back Ribs. Yum.
Hope everyone is having a grand time and a great evening.
ME Liz Strauss said
I know, Joe.
There’s no controlling those two. I’ve already given over my power.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
If everyone drinks , I sound amazingly clear!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Terry!
You always were one for an outdoor party.
Suzie Cheel said
looks like I missed some fun, while I dealt with an email
Terry Starbucker said
Oh yeah! I like river boats too
ME Liz Strauss said
You can never tell what’s going to happen around here!
ME Liz Strauss said
I know a great river boat in Chicago. Suzie says she’s coming to ride it next year. So does Glenda.
Terry Starbucker said
Suzie and Glenda, I’m tellin’ ya, your gonna love that boat! It’s the Blogging Love Boat! And yes Liz, there WAS BBQ on that boat - coincidence? I think not.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
sorry Suzie, I forgot I was ’sposed to be recruiting [hiccup] Would you like a drink?
ME Liz Strauss said
I heard it was the BBQ that went the fastest!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Is the Blogging Love Boat accessible perchance?
ME Liz Strauss said
We’ll get you there, if we have to carry you.
Terry Starbucker said
Of course. I think you are inspiring me to set up a big BBQ pit in front of the Hotel 71 next year and cook up a bunch of Ribs - SOBCon style! I think they would arrest me though…
Terry Starbucker said
Oh yes, no worries Glenda! Liz is freakishly strong.
ME Liz Strauss said
Terry,
Just have Bella Bacino’s do it for you!
Terry Starbucker said
Better idea, yes. Italian ribs. Now THAT’s a concept. We break new ground again Liz!!
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda!
What Terry means is that I’m freakish and I get strong guys to do what I want.
Ellen Weber said
Love your ideas Liz — and the fact that Online BBQs cut the calories:-)
This weekend my kids came over for a big BBQ to celebrate Mother’s Day because I was away leading a brain conference on the real day. We had fun and decided to take a boat along the Erie Canal together this summer.
See where a BBQ and a few KaBobs can lead!
Joe said
Glenda, the answer is NO. But THAT WILL CHANGE, right Liz and Terry?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Awesome, Liz. Done that before. Sometimes this not walking gig has its perks!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Ellen,
I can soak you with the hose and you want even get cold in the night air.
Great to see you! Wish you’d come to Chicago!
Suzie Cheel said
sounds wonderful, Des & I Will be there.
@ Glenda a good glass of red thanks
just has a weird email there are a lot of sceptics out there
Terry Starbucker said
Liz, you are so right. Can I get you another drink?
ME Liz Strauss said
Suzie,
Have a double!
Here Terry!
Your usual!
Ellen Weber said
Oh — we do need to hit Chicago and do dinner. Boat - BBQ - or Water jets — it would be COOL!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Joe, no objections to being carried on board by the tall and handsome variety! Getting to the head may be tricky tho, since I’ve lost my ‘camel’ ability.
ME Liz Strauss said
Oh yeah, Ellen,
I can see it all now! You’d be a changed woman. I guarantee it!!
Ellen Weber said
Now that’s tempting! I always jump for a shot at change!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
a weird email, Liz?
Terry Starbucker said
Joe, how ya doin’? Don’t see you on Twitter much these days. I’m totally addicted. Totally.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
sorry, meant Suzie not Liz.
Joe said
Mz G, does that include me? [shy, almost embarrassed look]
You are the cat’s meow!
Wanna dance?
Ellen Weber said
Hey, Terry — I say the line … “Top three big bonuses in Twitter for a busy business owner-blogger?” — and you say …?
Joe said
Terry, seems every time I get on Twit it Quits!
Almost ready to ive it up…
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Definitely you, Joe! I’d love to dance. Thank you.
ME Liz Strauss said
Ellen,
I say,
clarity of thought, speed of response, mostly unambiguous.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, now that everyone is appropriately beveraged, the tweet-a-thon might make more sense. You want to give it a shot?
Ellen Weber said
Interesting Liz — you have me curious though. Does your first one not cancel out the third one? Can you tell us a bit more?
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Ellen,
The first and third actually say the same thing.
140 characters allows you to say almost anything you need to. What I started to say first was NO BS. It’s direct without layers of emotion because there’s no extra room for them.
Suzie Cheel said
okay . although you will probably do it well. I really must learn to touch type, My mother told me I should
Terry Starbucker said
Ellen, that answer will have to wait - the dinner bell is ringing (nope, not BBQ though). To all sitting around the picnic table tonight, farewell and good night!!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
[oops there was still water left in here. Sorry Liz. ;)]
Ellen Weber said
No BS does it for me. Hmmmm
Does that equate emotion to BS?
ME Liz Strauss said
Good night, Terry!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Night Terry.
ME Liz Strauss said
Not at all Ellen,
BS is faux emotion.
ME Liz Strauss said
Twitter doesn’t exclude all emotion. People pass on sincere sentiments of regret or caring. They just don’t overladen it with flourishes of emotional overtones.
Ellen Weber said
It’s 10:30 in NY — wow — that’s a late dinner Terry. No wonder that bell had you hopping to respond. We’ll wait - cause from your comment I got the impression that benefits were busting out all over.
Suzie Cheel said
Okay who is going to be brave have some fun and twitter with Glenda and I 28th May 7-pm
ME Liz Strauss said
Great example . . . Drew McLellan just wrote
My daughter is singing so loudly to her iPod that I can hear her downstairs. Love hearing that teen-aged joy!
Ellen Weber said
Sounds like all the keys for great writing the way you put it Liz:-) Did you know that emotion is really part of reason - in current brain guru’s research?
ME Liz Strauss said
Ellen,

Ahhh — makes sense. We should have asked what was on the menu before we let him get away though:-)

In what way, Ellen?

I can see how my emotion gets involved in my reasoning, but does that mean that it’s a part of reason? What do they mean?
Ellen Weber said
Well, it’s part of intelligence. We all have at least 8 intelligences as you know. Emotions are a huge part of a person’s intrapersonal intelligence.
Just cause we use ‘em differently some people claim that aren’t there when they are big as life in every mental interaction.
Ellen Weber said
Even the topic you choose to reason out — often has an emotional tone. When stuff is subtle with the mind — we often miss it.

Guess, it’s that “logical” school thing that makes us think we’re not supposed to have “feelings” when we’re “thinking.”

There’s one thing a Bar-B-Que will do
It’s bring friends together for a good time
And when we are sitting down to eat
The good things get better and become sublime
We gather together every Tuseday night
But some are more special because who attends
Are special and invited and some are so new
But all are in their own way exceptional friends.

The school think is still taking the brightest minds out!

Good night, Joe,
Sleepy swell.
ME Liz Strauss said
I’m afraid it’s so, Ellen.
School teaches us how to be leaders on someone else’s path.
Ellen Weber said
Now that’s the title of a great book. I’d buy it if you wrote it.

Night Joe.

Help me figure out the table of contents and I will.
Ellen Weber said
Oh what a fun challenge that would be — and the adventure would lie in the possibilities you’d float!
Maybe the school of life and business does the same too!

Lights are dimming in NY - Nite all!

Of course they do!
When I work with folks, they get amazed when I say, “this time around let’s fit the job to you.”
ME Liz Strauss said
Good night Ellen!
Thank you for coming!
Ellen Weber said
That’s brain research at the cusp! Think of the business world if we matched our jobs more of the time!!! We all be hot as pistols!
ME Liz Strauss said
Head, heart, and purpose all in the same direction. It’s irresistible.

Think I’m going to go have supper and perhaps even Reload the dishwasher before starting the night shift. The tweet-a-thon starts west oF the International Dateline in a few hours.
Thanks Liz for holding the funnest cookout.
ME Liz Strauss said
Thanks, Glenda, for your friendship.
