The Mic Is On: We’re in Las Vegas!
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:03 pm
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
Here’s how it works.
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.
We’re Talking About Las Vegas!
We might talk about
- what’s to like about it?
- gambling
- shows
- food
- Wayne Newton
- weddings
- conferences
- travel rates
- weather

And, whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey.
Oh, and bring a link, if you have one to share.

Good evening everyone! Is Lady Luck in the house tonight?
ME Strauss said
Hi Char!
Welcome to Las Vegas!
Joe said
Hey Liz,
Hey Char,
Speaking of Basil, I haven”t seen him OR Ben round here in a while.
Jeremy David said
Seems like I showed up to the wrong place. I have a habit of doing that ha ha.
Joe said
We know that Basil likes to Party, maybe he’s in Las Vegas.
Jeremy David said
And speaking of Hello. Hello Liz, Char, Joe, and everyone else. As you can tell… I’m new here
ME Strauss said
Hi Jeremy,
I think everyone has done that at least once, except the folks who have been here since the beginning.
Hi Joe!
Robert Hruzek said
Oh, HERE you are! Once again we were lulled into a dead ended conversation!
Hello, Liz, Char, & Troy; (and what the heck) hello, Basil, wherever you are!
ME Strauss said
Hi Robert!
I did that sneaky move the whole city on you again thing.
Jeremy David said
At least you came and rescued us.
Robert Hruzek said
Hello, Jeremy! Howdy, Joe!
Jeremy David said
Oh I just saw “weddings” in the little title area. My friends and I are having a fake wedding at the end of April.
ME Strauss said
Jeremy had I gotten there sooner you wouldn’t have needed rescuing I would have had the sign up and the comments off.
Beverages from the sidebar anyone?
Char said
Show of hands - who has been to Las Vegas? Me, four times.
Jeremy David said
I’m very excited about it. It’s 80’s formal themed. I’m having a bit of trouble finding a pastel blue suit.
Robert Hruzek said
Liz, you know I didn’t just fall of the turnip truck - no that was last month. You’re going to have to be sneakier than that, ma’am!
ME Strauss said
Hey Char
I think Lady Luck is with Frank Sinatra somewhere in the Middle of Guys and Dolls.
Char said
Jeremy - that sounds like fun. And the helijet thing - too cool. I love Vancouver.
Joe said
Never…
Maybe some day.
Jeremy David said
Ha ha I see you were checking up on me
Robert Hruzek said
Char, I spent three months on a job there a few years back. We lived AND worked in the DoubleTree hotel over by the airport.
Marti said
Hello everyone!
Tariq Khan said
Hi, all!
Char said
Jeremy - that is half the fun of Open Comment night - you have to check up on all your blogging buddies.
Liz - Have you been to Vegas?
Robert Hruzek said
Hello, Tariq & Marti!
ME Strauss said
Char,
I’ve been to Vegas several times. My two favorites were once for a teachers’ conference — it was like being inside unreality in a city of unreality.
The other was for a focus group staying at the Xcalibur that was too weird. Luckily the TV show CSI wasn’t being filmed yet. Or I would have been convinced everyone there was playing a part in an episode of it.
ME Strauss said
Hi Tariq,
I bet you have an opinion about Las Vegas . . .
Becky McCray said
Hi, all! Never been in Vegas myself. My husband has a great Vegas story…
Char said
Robert - I’m not sure if I would think three months in Vegas was fun or not. Three days is usually a good amount of time for me.
Liz - Excalibur is not my favorite place at all. I have never been for a convention or business - always for fun.
Jeremy David said
Ha ha let me guess. It stays in Vegas?
Tariq Khan said
Hi, Robert.
Liz, never been there, so it’s hard to have one.
ME Strauss said
Jeremy,
Maybe you should go to Vegas on a practice adventure! What do you think?
Robert Hruzek said
I guess I’m not your average visitor to Vegas; I don’t gamble, drink, smoke, or run around. I agree with your assessment, Liz - it’s unreality inside unreality.
But there was fascinating stuff to do and see all the same, and if you’re a “people watcher” like me, it’s never a dull moment!
Becky McCray said
OK, here’s my husband’s story:
He loved it!
He went when he as 16 or so with his family. Since his Dad was in a wheelchair, and Joe helped him, he got to go on the gambling floor, underage! Scandalous!
Jeremy David said
I’m pretty sure if i went to Vegas I’d end up losing $1000s of dollars, which would put the rest of my adventures in jeopardy… and I do not know how happy people would be about that, ha ha.
Becky McCray said
Robert, I’m kinda like you!
Char said
Robert - I like to gamble (nothing extravagant) but don’t drink, smoke or get wild. I do love Vegas though. The people watching is fabulous.
How about the shows? My favorite are Mystere and O by Cirque du Soliel. Blue Man Group was good too.
Robert Hruzek said
Char, since I was working there, it was OK. We lived off the strip, but could take a free bus there in our off time for food.
I have to say, overall, I really had a great time there. There is lots to see. (Uh-oh, I can feel a blog post coming on!)
Jeremy David said
Becky: did they give him free drinks?
Char said
There really is so much to see and do in Las Vegas even if you don’t gamble a bit.
Becky McCray said
Jeremy: I don’t think so, but I think he loved looking at the cocktail waitresses! Quite the deal for a 16 year old!
Marti said
I haven’t been to Vegas in decades. Husband was out there last year on business (honest - lol) He said it is very different from when we were there in the 80’s.
Jeremy David said
Oh yes, I’m sure he had tons of fun!
ME Strauss said
Hey Becky,
Sorry I got waylaid there! How are ya?
Robert Hruzek said
Hi, Becky!
Yes, we saw the Blue Men, too. Very… interesting. I was a bit let down though; expected more, I guess.
My favorite thing to do on off time was take a big, thick book and go sit in the sidewalk cafe at the foot of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Casino/Hotel.
It’s right across the street from the Bellagio where the dancing fountains are, and every 15 minutes, we’d get a wonderful show, music, etc.
This was in the fall, and it was pretty much perfect weather.
My favorite times while there…
Becky McCray said
I’m great, Liz! How are you? Feeling like your hair is on fire yet? (Bless your heart!)
Joe said
Since I was never in (at, to) Las Vegas, are the Shows really as good as people say?
I Love a good show, dancing, singing, and all that jazz.
ME Strauss said
Hi Becky!
My hair has burned off and long since grown back . . . now I’m just in a constant state of stunned. Ask Jeremy we talked on the phone last night he thinks I’m hilarious. He doesn’t know yet that I’m just deranged.
Robert Hruzek said
Joe, I guess they are; I only went to the one.
One thing I got REAL tired of was while riding the monorail, they run the same ads OVER and OVER and… When you find yourself humming along with the music, you start walking instead!
Becky McCray said
Liz, you are such a pleasant type of deranged!
Tariq Khan said
Robert,
Do be careful about the Eiffel Tower. I’ve heard that it attracts lightning.
Becky McCray said
Ooops, gotta run! Everybody enjoy Las Vegas!
Liz, all my best!
ME Strauss said
Becky,
yeah, at least I’m not like Norman Bates. I’m basically harmless.
Char said
Joe, the shows I have seen have been worth every penny. The Cirque shows are amazing in every way.
ME Strauss said
bye Becky!
Thanks for coming! I’ll be deranged without you all night!
Jeremy David said
Deranged ‘eh… thanks for the warning!
Monique Attinger said
Hi, everybody!
I’ve never been to Vegas. The closest I’ve been is watching CSI — and I can’t quite believe that people are dying off there at the rate that show depicts…
Monique Attinger said
Hmmm… my comments aren’t getting through again… Hello?
Marti said
That’s a cute story, Becky!
Robert Hruzek said
One thing not to be missed is the Pirate show. But word of warning!!! Keep a good hold of your wallet, purse, or anything else not attached (and I’d worry about those, too!)
Everyone is packed together on the viewing stands, and easy pickings.
Also, the Elvis impersonators sprinkled throughout the Strip are not to be missed.
Monique Attinger said
Hi, everybody! Never been to Vegas…
Jeremy David said
Elvis impersonators are terrifying.
Monique Attinger said
Okay! I seem to be showing up… Woohoo!
Hi, Robert! Hi, Liz… Hi fellow Open Mic attendees!
While I’ve never been to Vegas, I did know an Elvis impersonator in my home town of Stratford, Ontario (Canada).
ME Strauss said
and death defying
Marti said
Aw darn, I lost my internet connection and didn’t get to post that before Becky left
Char said
Completely off topic, would anyone like to be featured as part of my Essential Tools series tomorrow? With the kids on Spring Break this week I got sidetracked and forgot to get someone lined up for the post.
If you want to be featured, leave me a note at Essential Keystrokes and I’ll get in touch with you. It’s easy. Just tell us about three tools you rely on for success online.
Sorry Liz - I have a captive audience -
ME Strauss said
I haven’t been to Las Vegas since CSI was filmed there, but I always expected to see one of my friends crossing the street in some episode.

~Viva, Las Vegas~~
(Thank you. Thankyouverymuch.)
Now who wants a Klondike Bar!
Char said
Hey Chris - I’ll take a Klondike bar! What’s the flavor tonight.
Robert Hruzek said
One of the most fascinating things I found was if you’re a student of architecture, it’s got some mind-boggling structures!
I absolutely LOVED the concept and execution of New York, New York! What an amazing building! Best of the bunch, IMHO!
Marti said
Chris, can I be Ann Margaret? LOL
Brooke said
Hey all! Klondike for me too! I have been to Vegas a few times. Stayed at the Mandalay (nice) and the Luxor (the pyramid).
Robert Hruzek said
Howdy, Chris! Make mine Banana Pudding!
Chris Cree said
Char, Tonight is assortment night. So pick your favorite flavor and we’ll see if I have it here in my stash.
Renée said
Hello everyone!
Tariq Khan said
Hi, Chris.
Tariq Khan said
Hi, Renee
Marti said
Banana pudding - yummmmmmmm
Robert Hruzek said
Hello, Monique! Hello Renee (I can’t quite make my computer put that little thingie above the first “e”.)
Chris Cree said
Hey guys! Y’all common over to the cooler here and help yourself because it’s a little crazy tonight trying to hand them out one at a time.
Tariq Khan said
Marti, please explain about Ann Margaret. Sounds like a good story.
Char said
Chris - I’ll just take a classic.
Brooke - I’ve stayed at MGM and Treasure Island. TI always treats us well, so we’ve stayed there 3 of the 4 visits.
ME Strauss said
When I was in Las Vegas we stayed in one of the big hotels for some outrageously low price say $65/night. because of the big casino they had. I couldn’t help but wonder how the MOTEL 6 down the street could compete.
Jeremy David said
Wow. This is turning into a real celebration.
Chris Cree said
Robert, I rode on the roller coaster at NY, NY when I was there.
[mutters to him self] I’ll miss that 25 bucks too.
Marti said
I saw Bary Manilow in concert in Vegas (that’s how old and lame I am - lol)
Brooke said
A while ago (at a previous job) I got to go to Vegas for the Mr. Olympia, Ms. Olympia, and Miss Fitness. Now that’s interesting….
Marti said
Is that the roller coaster that is atop a building, Chris?
Robert Hruzek said
I still remember the $5 steak and eggs breakfast, available anytime!
Chris Cree said
When Gorgeous and I visited that town we stay at the Paris Uh-huh! [he said with a horrible fake French accent]
I hated that they took the coffee pots out of the room. Made it very expensive to feed my addiction that way.
Char said
Chris - we rode the roller coaster too. It was fun!
Joe said
I noticed that people either have Never been to Vegas(me) or been there multiple times.
Seems there is no ‘tweenies ’round here.
Jeremy David said
Yeah I fall into that never before category.
Marti said
Dang, I can NOT keep my internet connection tonight. Gonna have to sign off. Wishing all of you wonderful Vegas dreams!
Chris Cree said
Marti, It kinda goes around the building. But I think the one you may be thinking of is the set of rides at the top of the Stratosphere.
Folks got stuck up there for a few hours when something went wrong while we were there. Never made it to that end of the strip.
Robert Hruzek said
Joe, I’ve only been there the once; it just lasted three months, though.
Char, Chris; did you ride the one on top of the needle? NOT ME, BUBBA!!!!
Monique Attinger said
I’d like to go to Vegas at some point… just for the experience. Maybe see a show… I’m not much of a gambler.
Chris Cree said
Heya Joe! I’ve been there exactly once. If I never get back there it’d be OK with me.
Tariq Khan said
I need to go too. ‘Night all.
Brooke said
I love Manilow Marti!
Monique Attinger said
I’d like to go to Vegas… Not to gamble (not much of a gambler) but to see the sites. I hear that the desert is beautiful too.
Robert Hruzek said
Good night, Marti! Sorry ’bout the trouble. Just remember the handy MZM guide to technology: Poke it With a Sharp Stick!
Jeremy David said
I think I’m going to jump on this bandwagon and leave too. I’m at work and feel like going home.
Cheers everyone.
Monique Attinger said
You know — I just figured out that my comments don’t appear right away, but seem to be “held” for a bit and *then* they show up!
Interesting.
Robert Hruzek said
G’night, Tariq!
Chris Cree said
‘Night Tariq. Toss your Klondike wrapper in the bin on the way out!
Monique, I’m with you on the gambling thing. I nearly put a quarter in a slot while I was there because the grand prise was a Mustang GT. But when I got up to the machines they were dollar slots.
I didn’t want the car that badly.
Brooke, Did you just admit that in public? Is there someone there with a gun to your head? Should we call the police?
Monique Attinger said
I’d like to stay and play longer, but unfortunately, I actually have *work* to do! I’m getting involved in a new internet start up — have signed a non-disclosure so can’t say too much — but it will be eating up my time for a bit.
No Vegas vacations for at least a few months!
Will tell more here as the launch of the site gets close….
Night, night everyone!
Robert Hruzek said
Good night, Jeremy, Monique! Gee, they’re dropping like flies around here.
Hey Chris, don’t give Brooke too hard a time. B.M. is still good to some of us!
Chris Cree said
Monique, I suspect your comments are being frisked by Akismet for some reason. You just have to wait until the Spam Fairy lets them out. I hate it for you.
Chris Cree said
Ack! Robert, Don’t tell my you’re a fan?!!
What ever you do, don’t look here.
(I warned you.)
Robert Hruzek said
To me the most irritating thing about Vegas are those people who stand on the sidewalks trying to hand you little adverts for hookers and similar stuff. If you have to walk more than 50 feet in any direction, you’ll get offered at least 10-20. REALLY irritating!
Robert Hruzek said
Chris… can’t… NOT… look… there…
Brooke said
I cn beat u up man!!!
ME Strauss said
You tell ‘em Brooke!
Don’t let the boys run you around like that!!
Chris Cree said
I once caught myself singing along with a Barry Manilow song (I think it was Copa Cabana or some such). I didn’t listen to the radio for a week after that.
Chris Cree said
(And I think I did permanent damage to my eyes finding that link.)
ME Strauss said
Let’s get tough we can do it.
Hey Chris
Try this on for size
Rick Cockrum said
Hi everyone! I’m another one that has never been to Vegas, and never have any wish to go. I don’t even watch it on CSI.
Chris, whether you like him or not, Barry Manilow wrote the commercials of the 70s. He’ll live in your head forever.
Chris Cree said
Man Liz! You are armed and DANGEROUS! That’s one loaded box of crayons!
Brooke said
LOL Chris!
Brooke said
Thanks Liz!
Chris Cree said
Yeah Rick, I know.
~I write the songs that make the whole world sing~
~I write the songs of love and special things~
~I write the songs that make the young girls cry
~I write the songs, I write the songs~
(Pardon me while I go wash up after typing that. I feel dirty.)
Renée said
Just curious! What is wrong Barry Manilow? I’m a great fan of his but I don’t mind singing some of his hit songs? Like “Mandy”
BTW, I saw him once in Vegas (many many years ago) with his two huge bodyguards. Boy, I could see his nose from a distance.
Brooke said
Since Chris seems interested…Mr. Olympia
Robert Hruzek said
I’ll tell you though, the money that went into building those places is staggering! No expense is spared, it seems.
To this day, I can still hear the ringing in my ears from all the video gaming machines - you pretty much HAD to walk through the casinos to get anywhere.
Chris Cree said
OK, Brooke. That’s a sport I don’t get.
Turn yourself into a mutant. Why?
Brooke said
oh…if you only knew…
Not a bodybuilder or fitness athlete at all!
Chris Cree said
AAAHHH! Not you too, Renée?!
I mean, give me Elvis. Or Bono. Or Little Richard.
Anyone but him.
Joe said
Just curious.
Did any GOOD Groups ever play Las Vegas?
Beetles, Doors, Who, you know the GOOD Groups.
ME Strauss said
hey Joe,
I don’t know of any.
Robert Hruzek said
Actually, the Moodie Blues did a concert while I was there. Didn’t make it though. Never was a concert-goer.
Joe said
Chicago (CTA, not the city), CCR, Grass Roots, Good Groups?
Robert Hruzek said
Or is that “Moody”?
Rick Cockrum said
Joe,
Jimmy Buffet, U2, Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, and more. That’s just at the MGM Grand Hotel.
Renée said
Correction! I’m not a fan of BM but I can sing to his song is I want to.
Little Richard is too much for my vocal cord.
Bono is Sexily Hot!
Hey Chris!
Chris Cree said
Joe, Aren’t the Moody Blues classic?
Joe said
Sorry, Robert’s Right
Char said
I am supposed to be doing my taxes and I keep finding myself here! Who else is a hopeless procrastinator?
Robert Hruzek said
Hah, Char! I beat you to it - I did them during LAST week’s open mic.
Char said
Robert - I should have been doing them then!
Chris Cree said
Hey Renée!
I just saw Little Richard do a cameo in that Russel Crowe flick from a while back Mystery Alsaska. That’s why I threw him in. Had Gorgeous and I laughing. Funny stuff.
Rick Cockrum said
Taxes are why I missed last week, Char. And why I was late this week. I still get to finish my daughter’s state taxes. Vegas is much more fun.
Brooke said
Great movie - and he was really funny!
Robert Hruzek said
Speaking of rendering to Ceasar - did anyone get a load of the Roman statues at Ceasar’s Palace? Geesh - kinka “over the top”, if you know what I mean…
Renée said
Hey Char!
Me too, especially when you are with great crowd like this.
Chris Cree said
Taxes? We were getting too much money back not to do them in February. I guess you could say I’ll not procrastinate at all if the price is right.
Renée said
Oh Chris! You just name the two persons that I least like especially Russel Crowe! I don’t understand why was he even voted the sexy man on earth.
Robert Hruzek said
Chris; yeah, you got it right! Hurry up if it’s a refund; drag your feet if it’s owed…
Char said
I hope we are getting money back. Time will tell… Yes, I’d rather be in Vegas.
Chris Cree said
Renée, anyone who played Sheriff John Biebe, Maximus, and Capt. Jack Aubrey is pretty OK in my book.
Besides he’s from down under and I’m a fan of most things Aussie.
Robert Hruzek said
OK, let’s see… my favorite sites in Vegas…
There’s the
erupting volcano at the Mirage…
Renée said
I see your point, Chris. At least Russel Crowe beats Crocodile Dundee–he is at the bottom of my list.
Chris Cree said
Gorgeous said Shark Reef was the coolest thing she saw in Vegas.
Robert Hruzek said
And then the Elvis impersonators are always worth a laugh…
Renée said
I’m going to the farmers market, be right back in 30 minutes!
ME Strauss said
I liked Russell Crowe (finally) in A Beautiful Mind.
Rick Cockrum said
I’m surprised no one brought the TV show, Las Vegas.
Robert Hruzek said
The Pirate Show is not to be missed, either! Just watch your belongings!
Brooke said
Belagio Fountains
Chris Cree said
The Belagio was cool. I had to watch the remake of Oceans 11 after staying across the street from the fountain.
But my own personal favorite spot on the strip was M&M’s World. (Go figure.)
Robert Hruzek said
Yes, Brooke! Very good!
And let’s not forget my favorite spot, right at the base of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel.
Rick Cockrum said
So he’s at his best playing an unsane genius, Liz?
It deserved the Oscars it won.
Chris Cree said
Liz, I’m a bit simpler. You can tell by the characters I picked out.
Robert Hruzek said
Chris, don’t forget to mention the best part of the M&M World - the movie posters!
Ben Yoskovitz said
Hi folks! Stopping by quickly before a 10:30pm conference call…
I love Vegas. Great place. Lots of fun…
ME Strauss said
Chris,
You’ve just picked up that southern boy trait o allowing the world to underestimate you, Forest Gump.
Robert Hruzek said
I think my last comment is getting frisked by Akismet…
Rick Cockrum said
Hi Ben! Life has been good.
I keep hoping they’ll make more movies with Captain Jack, Chris. They have enough books to choose from.
Robert Hruzek said
One of the many inconsistencies I discovered was that at the Luxor hotel, the featured show was Star Trek! Odd combination, that.
Chris Cree said
Robert, I honestly forgot about them. All I could think about was that entire wall floor to ceiling of huge bulk bins of scores of different colored M&M’s.
Mmmmm… Chocolaty.
Robert Hruzek said
Hey, Rick - I remember that TV show, Vegas. I always thought it was stupid to park your car right in your living room! Exhaust fumes, you know…
Rick Cockrum said
I have to go. Everyone have a great night. Thank you, Liz! Sleep well.
Before I go, just so Chris doesn’t forget Barry, and Viva Las Vegas.
Chris Cree said
Rick, I doubt they’ll make another one unfortunately. It didn’t make a domestic profit. Bummer, eh?
Robert Hruzek said
Chris, well, sure, I think there was chocolate… I think.
Chris Cree said
I thought you were kidding earlier, Rick. That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen all night!
Robert Hruzek said
Hey, y’all, this was fun! Gotta go get my beauty sleep, though.
Y’all have a great night! Sleep tight! And don’t let the bedbugs bite!
Rick Cockrum said
Good night, Robert,
Thought you would like that, Chris.
Good night again for real!
Brooke said
Good nite Robert, Rick, Chris Liz and everyone! Thanks for the great conversations!
Chris Cree said
Hey all, I’ve got to turn in as well. Thanks for the laughs and the links.
And please, eat your Klondike Bars responsibly.
Enjoy!
ME Strauss said
Good night, Robert!
Good night, Brooke!
Timothy Johnson said
Am I too late? What have I missed.
Terry Starbucker said
“….Viva Las Vegas….Viva Las Vegas…Viva, Viva, Las Vegas!” Elvis has left the building, and Starbucker says howdy!
Timothy Johnson said
Dude! Glad there are signs of life here! I thought I’d missed the party.

Well, Liz it looks like just us
no one here to cause a fuss
But I must reluctantly say adieu
because I wake with the morning dew

ME Strauss said
Good night, joe
Sleepy swell
Terry Starbucker said
Dude! Yep, we’re crashing late Tim. How ya doin’? Joe, be good and see you soon.
Timothy Johnson said
Doing OK… if I could get the Sofitel to pull their collective heads out of their… um… reservation system. Trying to get my room for Chicago and proving to be more difficult than planned.
Terry Starbucker said
Liz, interestingly enough I’m going to be in Vegas right before I go to Chicago for SOBCon - can I get you any fuzzy dice or anything?
Terry Starbucker said
I just made my reservation the other day and it went fine- what’s their problem?
ME Strauss said
Fuzzy dice that’s too cool, Terry.
Yeah fuzzy dice. I don’t think so.
Timothy Johnson said
Don’t get me started… I’ll try back tomorrow when the “day shift” is working
Terry Starbucker said
That’s a good idea Tim, that’s when I did it (at about 10AM EST). Liz, OK I’ll skip the dice - but if anything else comes to mind, just let me know.
Renée said
I think I need to get back to my work, it was fun chatting here tonight!
Have a good night sleep, y’all! Thanks for having me, Liz!
Timothy Johnson said
Liz… have you received anything in the mail yet?
Timothy Johnson said
Well, Liz/Terry/et al, this little buckaroo is all tuckered out…. I think I’m gonna turn in for the night. 4 weeks left!
Terry Starbucker said
Me too Tim. Tim & Liz, see you soon! G’nite!
ME Strauss said
Good Night, Terry!
Sleep well!
Troy Worman said
Another successful Open Mic! Kudos!
ME Strauss said

Hi Rodney,
Thanks for your hekp on the press release.
I’m trying to find some folks to get to you.
Troy Worman said
Rodney! It is so awesome to see you here. I’m looking forward to meeting you in Chicago.
Chris Cree said
TROY! And Rodney! (I’m not here. I’ve already gone off to bed. But I wanted to stop by and say hey to y’all anyway.)
Chicago’ll be here before you know it!
OK Now I am shutting my computer down…

Then my aunt grabbed my arm
out of no-where.
“You are not allowed in here” she laughed tugging me back to the all ages rooms.
I was,

Hi Rodney,
I’m on twitter, but I can’t turn it on. It’s too distracting for me to get much work done.
Troy Worman said
Twitter. Yes. Clue me in on the efficient and effective usage. What’s that?

Jessica Doyle said
I’m not on twitter Rodney. Someday maybe…
Jessica Doyle said
Liz - I’ve been reading LettingMeBe. And honestly it IS letting me be. I can only explain it as such. A few of your posts made me cry this weekend. A good cry ;).
Jessica Doyle said
Rodney… seriously, the video is something I recorded this past weekend. I was emotional while recording my voice. I wanted to publish the recording and felt it needed to be more than just a black screen of voice. Your comment above about video stirred something inside and now I see a use for this particular recording.
Thank you for the light bulb.
Rodney Rumford said
troy, efficient in the sense that you can use it an an effective communication platform for a team. you can use it as a way to share common threads, discovery points. can be an effective networking tool for like minded individuals. i have more thoughts but no time to expand…
The bottom line is that twitter is first and foremost a communication platform. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg here. i know these guys. this is the guy that created blogger.
Rodney Rumford said
go for it jessica… video is a blast. i want tons of people recording videos… regardless of if they can attend or not… here is the cool part. you will be able to display the entire sobcon channel on your blog in a sidebar widget next week.
Rodney Rumford said
oh on twitter i almost forgot… the founder has a pile of cash… and is an expert at hiring and working pr on a national print, tv and new media level…. he is a darling in the press.
plus quite simply twitter has this strangely addictive quality to it. especially for people that are so used to texting…. and it is so stupid simple it is DUHHHH… actually we developed similar technology about 2 years ago but never went in this direction.
Jessica Doyle said
rodney - Sounds good.
I will be re-visiting the recording in the coming days. If it suits sobcon I will finish the video for such. And if by chance, the idea and recording don’t mesh I will need to wait for another light bulb and use the recording for that, which could be a bummer, in fact.
ME Strauss said
Jessica,
:)
If you did something SOBCon that would be so Coool!
Troy Worman said
Thanks, Rodney. And adios. I’m done for the night. Must crank on the book for a bit before turning out the lights.
Good night.
ME Strauss said
Hey Troy,
Good Night and thanks for coming. Can’t wait to meet you in Chicago!
Jessica Doyle said
Liz -
*blush* - I’ll do my best.
That could be the reason my instinct said not to sign up for twitter when it first appeared in the blogosphere.
ME Strauss said
Jessica,
You are wise. The addiction wears for some very quickly. It depaends on how you use it. Some folks think they are ons stage. Some folks forget the world is listening. Some folks only listen. Some folks only leave messages. Twitter is flexible that way.
Jessica Doyle said
Liz - do you have a copy of the sobcon logo, before it was flattened for web use, that I could use in the vid possibly? If not I’ll grab it off the sobcon website with your permission of course?
Jessica Doyle said
Wow. I say no to twitter. I get enough jitter both online and offline as it is. I’ll just observe from afar and be happy with that.
ME Strauss said
Jessica,
Grab whatever you need. The logo was made on the blog. I think you’ll have to reverse engineer it.
Dave said
I guess I missed it. At Ground school so that I could fly to LV and maybe SOBcon

Ben did the stuff at the blog http://www.sobevent.com

Thanks Liz for the stuff.

Including memories of that sausage. [giggle]
Jessica Doyle said
LMAO! - the sausage in three pics -
I’m working on Chocolate Chip cookie flowers this evening. Will be publishing it later tonight. These edible flowers even have a little winged chocolate chip cookie bug that survives only on the nectar of this species.
Really.
ME Strauss said
that sounds marvelous!
Jessica Doyle said
he he… check your email liz - just sent you a sneak peek.
ME Strauss said
Hey Jessica,
I’m not sure where you sent it, but I’m not finding it.
Jessica Doyle said
I sent it… it is a screen shot of the image as a PDF file.
I hope it goes through. It didn’t bounce back to me.
I’ll resend it just in case as a jpg and then get back to working.
Good night Liz and everyone else. I got really excited with all of you here and couldn’t stop talking. Sorry…

Good evening and I guess good night to everyone … I’ll be up for a bit plotting a sinister (read: nice) little way of plugging SOBCon via my blog. I got to go to Vegas a couple years ago and saw Blue Man Group with my brother - very fun. I have to say though, that driving through the Joshua Tree National Forest in the Arizona desert at cruise velocity while listening to sweet grooves was perhaps the trip highlight.

Easton!
If you made it through Joshua Tree during that short time when the cactus were in bloom, OMG! I’ve done that. It’s amazing. We listened to Tubular Bells and felt like we were on another planet. It was so special. People to try get there by planning, but the rainfall and weather change the time it occurs every year. It’s a hard thing to carch.
ME Strauss said
Hi Glenda!

So sorry I had to cut out early. I enjoyed reading through the comments just now!
Tariq, the Ann Margaret reference I made was to the movie “Viva Las Vegas” which starred Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret. She looked great in it, that is why I asked if I could be her - LOL
The roller coasters and attractions sound amazing. I hope I get to visit sometime! Thanks for the information and great conversation, everyone, and thanks to Liz for hosting such an incredible event every week!
Peace and joy to all of you!

You are a generous soul to take the time to answer such a trivial question a day later. Thanks for the answer!
