The Mic Is On: We’re Talking About All Things Mexico…
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:00 pm
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
Here’s how it works.
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.
Hola!

With Cinco de Mayo this week, it’s a great time to go just a little south of Chicago to Mexico.
- Trips and vacations in Mexico
- Our favorite Mexican foods
- Mexican holidays and Mexican traditions
- Stories about Mexico that we know
Of course, we’ll talk about everything under the sun as well. And, whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)
Oh, and bring links to share about Mexican things.

Hi Glenda!
The closest I get to Mexico is the occasional trip to Taco Belle. I’m just here for the company, tonight.
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda,
You should start a sponsorship drive of some sort. . . . Raise the price of your book by a dollar or get folks to pledge funds for every post you write. If pledged 10 cents a post and you wrote 100 posts you’d have $10.00, if 100 people did that you’d have $1000.

My only visit to the country of Mexico, was a walk-across when my in-laws lived in Arizona. We drove down to a USA border town and parked the car, then strolled across the border for the day. Not very authentic I’m afraid, I think we ate at a McDonald’s - LOL

@Stephen - the salsa burgers were great… very easy to make. 1.25 lbs of 85% lean ground beef. Quarter cup of thick salsa. 1 teaspoon of horseradish. 1/2 cup of thinly sliced vidalia onion. Mix and shape into patties. Serve with Pepperjack cheese and Cholula hot sauce.
Looks like we both have a love for Mexican to add to the spooky similarities

Hola! Want to add a bit of conversation about my Mexican adventures.
I love traveling (and living!) abroad and, when traveling, I only bring a “souvenir” back if I think it’s indicative and evocative of the “real” culture.
Was in Cozumel over Thanksgiving 2006. Lots of tourist trap shops. But two great finds. First was a local museum that traced the biological history of the sea in the area. And then found this incredible iittle “hole in the wall” shop, run by an American married to a Mexican, that sold incredible embroidered table runners, etc. done by native people. They were exquisite. It was the one thing I wanted to bring back. Now it often graces my dining room table with colorful floral embroidery and lots of memories.
I also spent a few days in Monterrey on a business trip that year. Monterrey is fantastic. Great scenery. Gorgeous mountains. Wonderful museums and cultural life! Some of my Mexican colleagues gave me their stories and experiences of “real” tequila. Altogether memorable.
I’ve never met a country I didn’t like. :)

Gotta go now - Cheers! :-D
Joe said
Though the night started as Mexican
And Cinco de Mayo was the topic
We all knew in our heart of hearts
That we’d end up a bit more myopic
And change things totally around
So the subject was about SOBCon
And how we shared all about ourselves
As we left all of our hearts undone
Once again we have outdone ourselves
Until 09 and we can again be SOBCon!
Burma Shave
Nite Liz
Nite All

Cool Joe, was nice meeting you last weekend! Good night :)
Terry Starbucker said
Thank all of YOU for what you gave to Liz and I - pure joy.
So I have an interesting idea - why don’t all of the SOBs meet in Chicago?
AGAIN!!!!!
Now we’re full circle Liz, since this is where it all started. It’s good to be back. But now I have to go - it’s snuggle time with the missus (by the way, I really need to get her to the 09 event, so she can see what this “blogging thing” is all about).
Bye!
ME Liz Strauss said
Ah, Rick,
The spontaneous Liz phone call . . . the most exhausting of the bunch. No one is known to have died from one, but at the time, that fact can seem small consolation. Many have received the call . . . few have chosen to. :)
