The Mic Is On: We’re Talking About All Things Mexico…

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:00 pm

It’s Like Open Mic Only Different

The Mic Is On

Here’s how it works.

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.

There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.

Hola!

707325_mexican_flag.jpg

With Cinco de Mayo this week, it’s a great time to go just a little south of Chicago to Mexico.

Of course, we’ll talk about everything under the sun as well. And, whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)

Oh, and bring links to share about Mexican things.

Hola! Want to add a bit of conversation about my Mexican adventures.

I love traveling (and living!) abroad and, when traveling, I only bring a “souvenir” back if I think it’s indicative and evocative of the “real” culture.

Was in Cozumel over Thanksgiving 2006. Lots of tourist trap shops. But two great finds. First was a local museum that traced the biological history of the sea in the area. And then found this incredible iittle “hole in the wall” shop, run by an American married to a Mexican, that sold incredible embroidered table runners, etc. done by native people. They were exquisite. It was the one thing I wanted to bring back. Now it often graces my dining room table with colorful floral embroidery and lots of memories.

I also spent a few days in Monterrey on a business trip that year. Monterrey is fantastic. Great scenery. Gorgeous mountains. Wonderful museums and cultural life! Some of my Mexican colleagues gave me their stories and experiences of “real” tequila. Altogether memorable.

    I’ve never met a country I didn’t like. :)

Though the night started as Mexican
And Cinco de Mayo was the topic

We all knew in our heart of hearts

    And change things totally around
So the subject was about SOBCon

And how we shared all about ourselves
As we left all of our hearts undone

Once again we have outdone ourselves
Until 09 and we can again be SOBCon!
