What Do You Do Because Sometimes You Know How?
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:23 am
This morning I had my morning all laid out. I knew exactly what I was to get done. I was ready prepared and willing, until I turned computer and Tweetdeck served up this short note.
3 things that stop me from doing… “Over Coffee…”

Who would I be not to see something like that? What I found were thoughts that started like this …
I love to write and doodle. So why don’t I do more of it? What am I afraid of? And how do I stop the fears and get going again?
And my head and my heart answer, “Yeah, I know. I get those feelings too.”
I read that post. Then I read the next — the one with the beautiful painted in drawing, the one I only wish or dream I could make myself.
Who would I be not to respond?
Because Sometimes I Know How
Every writer gets stuck for words.
Every writer gets caught up
or lost looking for an idea to explore.
Every writer has an ego that pushes words out
and a critic that tears them down.
We all have time that we hope
and fear that will never write again.
If only I could draw and paint a lady so lovely,
But I write I write instead
because sometimes I know how.
What do you do because sometimes you know how?

Liz, This post is quite profound. When following our ‘purpose’ we often follow what we know how to do, rather than what we love to do. They aren’t always the same. We may think because we are so good at writing, or numbers, it is our purpose, but in fact a knowledge of writing or numbers can be expressed many ways. I love this example: I’m good at dishes. They always come clean, but it’s not my purpose….
So, YES! Do new things. We can allow ourselves to learn, to practice, to not be perfect, to have fun, and eventually we will get good at more things, that help us follow purpose.
Love the drawing, poem and post!

Hi Liz
I second that “love the drawing, poem and post!”
What I do ‘because I know how’ now is sometimes asking for forgiveness instead of permission when helping out friends/contacts with their marketing. Can’t help myself, that’s me - and am starting to feel more and more it’s even my purpose? Teaching by showing how it can be done. This is now translating itself in writing more and more ‘lessons’ - which turn into a manual and digital products.
My friends tend to forgive me time after time (still ;-))

I started not to write because I need to get to work… isn’t that the way that we don’t do what we know how sometimes? And we excuse our inaction with, well I’ll get to it sometime.. and we don’t. Yet we could if we would set the appt as we do work– too much time spent eating, watching TV, playing with our tech toys and oh yes- even in cyberspace - so as I get to work I am reminded that anything worth our passion is worth an appointment. Thanks for the reminder!

I sometimes know how to take a good picture, put words with it, and then share what I saw and how I saw it. My pictures aren’t the best in the world, but then again, they don’t have to be because I know each picture represents something from within me.
I love what I do. And clearly by your poem and drawing, you also love what you do, Liz. I love coming to this site and getting a little boost for the day……………:)

I love the direction you took this, Liz. Your poetry speaks so clearly. I’ll print that out too — on card stock, cropped — and post it up over my desk. Thank you for sharing it…
I love to see how one blog post can inspire another. Just a tiny piece of information from one soul can explode new and different and exciting ideas inside another.
Michele does dishes well but prefers to “Live her Purpose.” I agree! (I don’t even like to admit knowing dust and iron are verbs. And I prefer dishwasher to mean the machine under the counter — not me.
)
Me… I draw-paint and write because sometimes I know how. (And sometimes I don’t.)
Thank you so much for the links… I’ve been enjoying your blog, for the conversations.

Hi Everyone,
I read all of you comments after a long day of meetings yesterday. Then I read them again today. Wow!
We’re doing something special and important here. We need to keep our heads and hearts focused on that. It’s a gift of inspiration that we give each other. It’s a gift of support and bigger thinking we pass on.
Thank you all.
