Beach Notes: Beach Meditation

October 26, 2008 by Guest Author

Beach Notes by Guest Writer Suzie Cheel

Each morning this week after our walk and swim I have been meditating.
Today as I sat on a rock and looked out at the clear blue sea, to the horizon these words formed.

Meditating sitting on

the sun warmed rock

At the place I call paradise

My feet resting

on the warm white sand

Listening to the sound of the sea

I feel connected  to the earth

To my soul

To my very being

How do you find you way to reconnect?

Seeing and Imagining

October 12, 2008 by Guest Author

Beach Notes by Guest Writer Suzie Cheel

I have been working on getting clarity about various aspects of my life and find my morning beach walk a good place to reflect.

Today I am following Liz’s 25 word writing exercise for this weeks beach notes:

There are times when the sea

is so clear

you can see

the shoals of fish

twist and turn

other times you

must imagine them.

-Suzie Cheel

Are there times when something is crystal clear one day and the next day the clarity is a little foggy?

Spring in the Southern Hemisphere

October 5, 2008 by Guest Author

Beach Notes by Guest Writer Suzie Cheel

Our southern hemisphere spring has come late this year,

The purple flowers of the jacaranda tree are just emerging

The winds of August still blow this October

Yesterday I took my first plunge into the salty sea

I shivered as the cool water touched my skin.

Then I dived into the clear blue sea and swam

I emerged feeling alive and reenergised

The healing power of the sea.

What is your response to the energy around you?

Why We Touch The Rock

September 14, 2008 by Guest Author

Beach Notes by Guest Writer Suzie Cheel

A Daily Habit

Each day when Des & I walk on the beach we have a habit of touching the rock at one end of the beach.

and the other.

We started this daily habit not long after we started walking on this beach 4 years ago. We noticed the resident patriarch of the morning beach walk tribe, Frank touching the rock. We learnt it was an unwritten rule, so we followed suit.

A guest staying with us last year observing this ritual asked: “What happens if you don’t touch the rock?”

Well nothing happens!

By touching the rock at both ends it is a way of ensuring that we have completed the full distance. without having to think about it.

I recently thought about how I might apply this to other areas of my life to get more completed efficiently. In other words have some kind of simple ritual to help me complete one task before moving to another. I am not sure how that fits with multitasking, but I am working on it.

“What’s your equivalent of touching the rock?

Beach Notes by Suzie Cheel and Des Walsh

Today’s beach notes has a new twist:
Idea and image by Suzie and the verse by Des Walsh

beach notes-onefoot
(c) Suzie Cheel

Yesterday as we were walking on the beach, earlier than usual I saw this perfect line of single footsteps and thought that would be great for beach notes. I sometimes get impatient taking one step at a time. As Des says ” You are not a kangaroo”!

Des then penned these words:

We were made

To go one step at a time

We try too often

To rush the process

We stumble

When will we learn?

Step by step works.

I know when I take one step and follow through things flow. I am learning:)
