Great Find: Campfire Group Chat

April 26, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

Well, it looks like a Great Find . . . I haven’t tried it. I don’t have that many friends who want to talk to me for extended periods of time. It sports and testimonial from Dick Costolo, however. I betcha he has more friends than I do.

“One chat with Campfire and you won’t remember how you got by without it.â€?

Great Find: Campfire Group Chat
Type of Tool: Simple Web-based group chat system
Permalink: http://www.campfirenow.com/
Target Audience: Small businesses and groups who want to meet online with password protected privacy and little hassle
Content: Campfire is a pasword-protected, multiroom chat system offers folks a place to meet online. It requires only an online connection and a browser–no download, no installation, no IT person to set up anything. Campfire allows folks to get together in real time to have online conversations, complete with transcripts, and to share files and preview images. It includes an outer room — the Lobby — the chat room, which holds up to 60 people, and a private room, which can be locked for an off-the-record chat — no transcripts are taken. Sounds like an functional program that small businesses could find real use for. Can’t possibly be Web 2.0.

Who’s going to be the first to try it and write a review for Successful Blog?

Liz, I think I will check this out. It sounds good. You answered one of my emails, and I really like what you said.

“”We slow become what we look at most.”

I will ponder that a bit more. And, I will take stock of what I do “look” at most,

    Thanks,
    Ruth,

    Hi Ruth,
It does sound like a good thing doesn’t it? Do let us know if it works as well as it seems to. The technology should be simple enough. It’s an idea that should have been packaged and offered long ago.

Maybe it was and no one knew it.

Yeah that sentence “We slowly become . . .” has taught me a lot.

Well, I opened my account and it is very easy, and very cool. Now, all I need to do is find 5 friends who want to chat with me 🙂

Unfortunately, I am not a big chatter, but I can see for networking groups, this is a great system,

    Zing. 🙂

I’d do it but I could never muster enough folks to join me.

    Martin,
What could you possibly be suggesting? That I wasn’t being the nice one? NOT Possible.?

Show me something Web 2.0 that works. Um . . . now that I mention it. Show me something Web 2.0 🙂

I don’t have enough friends either. My brothers put a lid on how many people they would pay.

I want you to write this post, Liz – “What is Web 2.0 – The Definitive Answer”.

Nail that one and you’ll be the star of the internet – cause then everyone will actually know what web 2.0 is … if it’s anything at all. Is it? I’m confused.
    🙂

I think, Martin, that it’s one of those typographic errors that occurred and got stuck in the lexicon as part of the vernacular. You see it was really

    WEB 2 x 0

    which we all know is nothing 2 x 0 = 0

But someone just hit the wrong key and it went to print. And well, you know how quickly information travels on these pecky blogs. Citizen journalists had it named Web 2.0 before anyone could correct it.

Happens all of the time in online publising.

Hmmm … those are interesting numbers. I especially like the zero one. Where do I join the queue to invest?

You already did. You invested 2 times what you did last year and you made 5 times as much.

I took my usual 20 percent.

And in the end it was nothing.

    As usual. 🙂
