Link Leak Virus Epidemic at Open Comments Night!

June 7, 2006 by Liz 16 Comments

Chicago Won’t Be the Same

The Chicago River is still recovering from last night’s Open Comments Night.
Once again, someone took on the challenge of live blogging the event. This week it was Mike Samsone of Converstations. Take a read of his post,

Whistle Stop – The Windy City Edition.

UPDATE: So did Scot Herrick.

The Link Virus Epidemic

Link Leak Virus is a special strain of the indie virus with blogtipping mutations that occur in threes. On Open Comments Night the virus got out of control. Here are some cool links that were shared:

Link Leak Virus Still Raging Today!

As you can see, I apparently brought home a strain of the virus. The links are still leaking to everyone who attended. Take a look at who’s ailing now. Oh it’s all my fault. All they did was participate and have fun. This is a cautionary tale of safe blogging.

Joe started the conversation talking about the mike in Chicago. Chris Cree brought the Klondike bars. Rod stopped by, even though it’s finals week, and Mike Samsone hung out while he waited for the next train.

Trisha wasn’t going to comment, but couldn’t resist the fun. Then along came Ben and his code-writing donkey. Cat stopped to say she couldn’t stay. Then found 200 comments in her email subscription.

Claire Tompkins gave us a lesson in taiko that was “hella fun.” Scot Herrick discussed drinking Merlot while reading about the business of beer. HART agreed that as a Canadian he really does know everyone.

Jamsi brought Liz some Australian wine.

Oh, Geze Ben. Your donkey’s drooling again. Can ya tell him to behave around Trisha? She’s new here.

Damn donkey. Soon as I get on the keyboard he starts hovering over my shoulder asking inane questions.

Hi Trisha – pleased to meet you.

Joe – good luck with Darren tomorrow, I feel your Blogger pain. I’d be curious how you got that interview with Darren…

I never did find out whether The Teacher is into the Doctor.

Yeah this post as well and nothing has come through.

I deleted all the older posts yesterday to see if it would work – and nup

Come to think of it I’ve had similar problems at other b5 blogs – Duncan’s and ‘six and out’ where I’ve subscribed to comments and nothing comes through.

Just noticed that Darren doesn’t have that feature any more.

Very frustrating. Oh well. Just makes it all that more harder for me to follow comments.

My dream scenario would be if WordPress included this feature as a standard. Just makes total sense to be kept up to date with the conversation rather than having to revisit and refresh.

I’m sorry. I don’t know what it is. Cat got here’s last night from open comments night and it almost killed her. 🙂

I just created a new folder in my Eudora, and then created a Filter to transfer emails from “Successful Blog Comment” into this new folder. When I post, I just mark that general area as “read” .. the next day I take out the trash.

Last week, I was testing both FF and IE and each had a different email and subscribed to comments. I had to turn the sound down, it kept beeping so much!

(Actually, it doesn’t beep .. when I receive new email .. it says .. “Data .. Being Received” // in the Star Trek Computer voice)

PS: that new folder is just for all blog comments that I end up subscribing to .. not just Successful Blog comments, although on open Mike nights, it far outweighs the others coming in! 🙂

PS.. thanks for mention above. It’s true. I really do know everyone, and I’m in the process of alphabetizing everybody.

    Oh HART,
That must be such a big job, having to alphabetize everybody. Are you using the phone company software? Or have you invested in developing your own?

After subscribing to Mike Night, I’ll have to fess up and admit that I’m now addicted to subscribing to comments.

When I got over the shock of all those messages, I started at the bottom and just kept hitting the up arrow and reading reading reading … a very lazy way to keep up with all the posts!

And I certainly will do it again … hooked I am 🙂

Besides, it’s night time for most of you but the beginning of my work day I believe, so’s best to subscribe and watch the numbers climb.

    Thanks, Cat,
You’ve had the experience from a whole differenct side than I have. It’s nice to hear what it’s like to be there.
