OZ Is Hit with Link Leak Virus

August 2, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

Tueday Comment Night in OZ

Open Comments was held in OZ last night. The conversation opened with a musical number and went from black and white to color in a matter of two comments. At some point in the wild forest, the flying monkeys dropped the evil link leak virus on the fair citizens of Successful Blog. Perhaps it was as we traveled through the poppy fields right before the Emerald City. Link Leak Virus is a special strain of the indie virus with blogtipping mutations that occur in threes edged its way in.

Cool links were shared.

Hehe – I suppose it can be something of an Oz moment when a long-haired heavy metal-listening Unix hacker like me confesses to quite liking the Dixie Chicks

Hi Liz, Joe, AdLib!

My wife’s name is Glenda, so you know who her favorite character is. Me, I kind of like the doorman and the Wizard while he’s still in Kansas.

Ahhh…sorry, I’m not that familiar with Wizard of Oz. Sure I’ve seen it, but I didn’t catch all those details!

I can’t be sure if Basil likes the horse of a different color or not. Secretly I think he’s into romance novels but he’ll deny it.

and Jade …

Never heard of Jade? I thought not.

When I was growing up, my father was a producer of musicals. For a handful of years he was involved with a struggling family theater in California. We (yes, I was pulled in on a rouse) ended up doing over 100 shows of the Wizard of Oz. All up and down the state of CA.

Since I’ve never seen nor heard of a Jade in any production of the Wizard of Oz before or since, I can only assume the part was written in for me at the request of my father. He was like that.

Jade was dressed up all in green (surprise) satin. Just like the lass in ‘I dream of Jeanie’. A midriff outfit, it had a tiny top fitted with sequins and shiny bits and long satin green skirt that twirled.

My part? The personal assistance of the Wizard. They even threw in a dance number, a song, and a scream scene when the storm hit.

Memories. I have a few. And if you know anything about theater groups, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Shameful, really – someone dying is mostly just tragic.

I’m just finding that out. And it’s one (in a long line) of the reasons I like coming over here. When I get the time, I click to see who’s who.

I used to hang around designers blogs, but … the posters are mostly designers and don’t always use the link to their blogs.

I crave the variety. Also, you have a number of writers over here. I like writers. Maybe if I rub shoulders a bit more, all that yummy grammar and proper sentence structure will rub off? 🙂

ps: I was on a buying jag last night. On top of ordering ‘The Careful Writer’, I also grabbed ‘Language in Thought and Action: Fifth Edition’, Choose the Right Word: Second Edition and was going for another when there was a glitch. Now that I’m more awake, I’ll see about tracking it down.

What are your favs? (sounds like a handy blog post actually)

“The well-fed writer”, I’ve heard of it, just not purchased. I’ll check it out and add it to my wish list for September. I realise its newly into August but I’m afraid my amazon.com budget is now overdrawn. All this recent chat about getting back into writing and I couldn’t help myself when one was mentioned.

“Eats, shoots, and leaves” I have, but I’m only part way through.

I’d love to see a list of the writing books everyone has, and what their opinions.

I have is a list, but personal opinions on very few. When I was living in Scotland with amazon.co.uk at hand, I took the opportunity to grab a few before I moved and the post charges bit me in the butt. They have spent a lonely life in my house.

Getting everyone’s opinions would be helpful. Some I bought on a whim, most I bought with the advice from amazon.com and you know what that’s like.
