Some Successes Only Look that Way Later

Can you imagine?
A singer songwriter David LaMotte, had to cancel a weekend of shows. He asked a friend, a young writer, singer, aspiring performer — who was working as a waitress — if she would fill in for him. Filled with anxiety, she agreed.
The young singer pulled together what courage she could muster to sing her way through songs other people wrote. All the while, she sang around her fear and did her best to disregard her self-doubt.
Thoroughly exhausted, the young singer was stopped at the end of a set. There before her was an actor from a traveling theater production. He was amazed to hear this was her first performance in a club. The actor reached in his pocket to hand her a $100 bill with the words, “never give up.”
And we know her. She’s a wonderful writer, songwriter, and singer. It’s five CDS later. I’m proud to call her a friend. Her name is in my sidebar and has been for almost two years.
“It was an endorsement from the angels,†Christine Kane said about that night when she was handed that $100. Sometimes you don’t see your own success coming.
It makes me smile to think that one of my favorite lines from her songs is a lot the same.
When courage finally comes you never see it coming.
I wonder that night is what the song was about.
You decide.
Right Outta Nowhere the words and the song are waiting behind that link.
Sort of makes me feel like a success just listening to her sing.

Don’t you just love it when opportunity knocks – and you’re prepared for it! Now that’s a success story! Kudos, Christine!
Hi Robert!
That’s the kick, being prepared for it. Every overnight success took a long, long time. 🙂
Yeah, Christine’s story makes me smile every time I think of it. She’s a fabulous model and an inspiring person still.
Hi Liz…I hope you can post some ideas to my post:

Hi gl!
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll be over to see you after my meeting today. 🙂
Right outta nowhere indeed. 🙂
Christine may not have seen that night coming but I’m guessing she had done all sorts of things that prepared her for that night, perhaps even without realizing it.
She was one of the highlights of SOBcon2007!
Courage is a pretty amazing thing. Examples of it foster to others that if they can muster it too and the biggest compliment at least to me is when someone says wow that took guts ( or courage. I often can’t even say how I managed that – it’s this determined in the gut thing that takes over – best described by me, and yet because of that I have a stronger knowing.
Choosing to be courageous takes us to another level.
I am not familiar with Christina Kane, she sounds wonderfully impressive.

Yeah, Chris,
Christine had the power and the practice that she needed to succeed behind her. Blind talent wouldn’t have been enough to serve when that opportunity peaked through. 🙂
Hi Jason!
Yes she was . . .
Funny, there are a lot of people there who were the highlight, weren’t there? Take, for instance, you. 🙂
Hi Mother Earth,
I sure hope you clicked through to the other post and listened to Christine’s recorded song that I have there.
She’s everything you suspect she might be.
She’s a lot like you!
Talk about relationships and I was reading Ittybiz and right outta nowhere I find you’re a friend of Naomi Dunford!
Isn’t that so cool 🙂
Yeah, Zakman,
It’s very cool that we have the same taste in friends. 🙂
Well, I’m honored to call you a friend Liz. Thanks for using your beautiful writing talent to post about my work in the world. What a thrill! (I just finished a week of performing twice – and teaching a day-long creativity seminar – and this was a great thing to read after a week on the road!) And a humble thanks to all of your commentators. You’ve got some cool readers, and you’ve created quite a community on-line, Liz.
Hi Christine
I’ve been reading your blog. You say like it is, huh… matter-of-factly.
Lately, I’m doing only commercial writing, but given my wings, I think my approach to expressing myself would resemble yours closely. Perhaps even the thoughts.
For example, your hitting the topic straight away with a shocker starter like “Dan Fogelberg died yesterday” … that’s what makes me wanna read and it leaves a lasting impression.
And from your articles, I pondered these lines the most 🙂
[…]it can be tempting to drink a few glasses of wine and numb yourself a bit.
I encourage you to drink water instead […] Hmmm…
Looking forward to your newsletters, Christine!
