The Mic Is On: Will I Be Successful? Tell My Fortune!

November 28, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

It’s Like Open Mic Only Different

Here’s how it works.

open mike night

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME
The rules are simple — be nice.

There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.

Tonight we’re telling the future!

We might also talk about

  • experiences with fortune telling
  • tarot cards, Ouija boards, crystal balls
  • past lives, ESP, telekinesis
  • paranormal experiences

AND THE EVER POPULAR,
Basil the code-writing donkey, and Milton the Moose.

Crystal Ball

The only other experience I have had with future telling is from fortune cookies. And I’ve had three good ones recently:

Happier days are definitely ahead for you. Struggle has ended.

When winter comes heaven will rain success on you.

A pleasant surprise is waiting for you.

Marti, I’ve met one person who used regular playing cards. Most use Tarot, though. It’s not the deck that’s important, it’s the reader.

I don’t read, but my wife does. I spent a lot of years with astrology. Fortunetelling-wise, it was less than desirable. For character analysis it was fantastic. It was also a lot of work. Most people who frequent astrologer’s and tarot readers want their fortunes told. They don’t want to hear about how to grow based on where they’re at now.

It’s sorta like Frodo & Sam. If they knew all the suffering they’d have to go through would they have set out in the first place? But they were always able to hold onto hope because surely it couldn’t get any worse, right?

And even though it did time and time again, in the end all the suffering was more than worth it.

Do most folks really want to know what their future holds? Or do they want to hear that something good will happen?

And if we really knew how painful the tough times were going to be, would we truly be willing to go through them, or would we be more likely to give up and never get to the good times on the other side?

And that’s my point, Carolyn. By not really knowing the future, I think, it’s easier to keep hopeful. Most folks who go to fortune tellers aren’t looking to find out what their future holds. They mostly want someone to tell them good things are going to happen.

Who would pay money to listen to a mis-fortune teller?

    Hey Chris,

It’s ambitious but not totally insane because both are in the planning stages. One is further along than the other.

The second will probably be a very, very soft launch to potential partners, early clients. The second will get launched, but also will be a fairly low-key affair.

I’m all about ambition anyway! And thanks for reading!

No ghostbuster, Renee. I figure there are three main options.

    1. He imagineered it, in which case, there’s nothing to do.
    2. There really is a ghost and it’s not dangerous, in which case there’s nothing to do except enjoy the thrill.
    3. There really is a ghost and it is dangerous, in which case consider the ghostbusting option as long as you can find someone who isn’t a flake.

It is nice to have a decent garage, but we still have shelves to get up to properly contain stuff. Every time I get one room decent I have to walk into the next one.

Will it be ten more years before it becomes commonplace for companies to use blogs to communicate with customers?

As for goals – I would think that the goals would be increased information distribution (announcing new products, concepts, basic info, etc); getting feedback from customers, and public relations.

I would like to see more companies moving their newsletters to a blog format.

I am having a lot of fun blogging.

I have a few clients who I think would benefit by blogging. I have to keep working on them.

I don’t want anymore clients right now – I maintain about 25 web sites for a variety of companies and I am swamped. I have 3 sites that are in the queue to be designed still.

Is it late enough for me to dig out my tarot cards and palmistry books from my college days?

Hi Becky .. // and speaking of Tarot cards .. // I just picked the Death Card on this site… http://horoscope.com/tarot_oracle/tarot_oracle.html

The Death card is probably one of the most famous and misunderstood cards in the Tarot deck. The Death card rarely means physical death. In fact most often it is symbolic of a powerful reversal or change in the seeker’s life, which cannot be controlled or curbed – a transformation. It is symbolic of death followed by rebirth, an ending to something in the seeker’s life that will initiate great change. Often meaning the clearing away of negative conditions to make way for new and better situations.

    ummm ..okay then.

Hart, your comment just came through! That is the classic definition for the death card: change, renewal, and endings.

I haven’t read cards in years, but I remember a bit!

Ahhhhh…. the 10 of cups.. the wish card … draw it and you get your wish, good fortune, and bounty. And that is what I wish for Liz and the whole crew!

    Becky,
You are wonderful. I tried to call you last week to wish Happy T-day and to let you know that I hadn’t died and where my head was at with the other stuff. I’m still think of how to configure thing so that you don’t end up with two of stuff. I’ll be calling soon to talk to you about it.

Meanwhile sleep well into the future!
And my wish is the same for you. 🙂

Over here, we don’t have crystal balls, so when we need to know our fortunes, we go see a medium who will then go into a trance, communicate with the gods, who will then tell us our fortunes. So if our fortunes are no good, we blame the gods!! Oh my God!

As you know, I rarely miss our community sharing.

    Today I had to.

And although I have regrets, it was SO nice to come home to your warm message.

I’ll gladly sit here, waiting on my stool. Waiting for other friends to join in.

After a long, hard day of work, it’s nice to come home.

(I’d say ‘so very nice’ but my lessons tell me it’s not so… and I’d say ‘just not so’ but my lessons … well … my lessons are … ?)

All in all, I’m a-go-ing-ta be better …

You will receive a message from a stranger. Or a strange message from a friend. It’s hard to see those leaves at the bottom of my can of tea through that little hole in the top.

Sorry I missed out on last night’s festivities. I spent the night with Murphy and some video editing hardware and software to help my son with a school project. 😉
