chartreuse (Beta) Thinks Outside the Knee Jerk Reaction

Chartreuse. It’s a drink. It’s a color. It’s a drink. It’s a color. It’s a drink and a color. That’s not relevant here.

What’s relevant is it’s a blog called chartreuse (Beta). It’s also the name of the MAN who writes it. He’s a thinker, who brings original ideas to the table.

Winds of controversy have been blowing again. This time over a blogger who set up a site called Amblogger–to mean Amateur Blogger–and took the exact code for the design from Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger site. The stolen version is no longer up, but Darren has a screen shot in his discussion of the incident. I won’t recap the story that will be retold.

I want to tell of a new voice on the scene, chartreuse (Beta), who after analyzing all of the data, came up with a different read on what happened and with what could have been a more propitious response. He thinks outside the knee-jerk reaction to find the logical solution that works. Read his article which I’ve linked to the image below, and you’ll see what I mean. Boyhowdy, I like how this man thinks.

chartreuse (Beta), next time you’re in Chicago I’d like to buy you a drink–any color you choose.

I was one of those “knee jerk” reactions, but after reading the chartreuse (BETA)post I have to admit she makes a good point.

    Hi Gary,
So many had a knee jerk reactions. People are very quick to want to go slay dragons. They used to call it “cutting off your nose to spite your face.” I’ve gotten slow in my old age, because too many times I’ve found out late that the dragon I just killed was really a kitten.

But I must admit, I never took the time to think this one through to the conclusion that chartreuse came to and there’s not a flaw in her thinking. Generosity from the big guy always wins.

Isn’t she one you’d want to have on your team? 🙂

    Liz –

I’m afraid I have killed too many kittens in life. If there is one thing that I would like to change about myself it is to become one who sits back to calmly and fully access a situation before charging in to “save the day”.

And yes, she would be a good one for the team. 🙂

Yeah, I know about those dead kittens, Gary.
And even when they ARE dragons. No one thanks you for slaying them.
They ask you to do it, but then they kind of resent it when you do it.

Great find Liz. Chartreuse is a drink I respect. My three “meetings” with it have been interesting. Though I think with this blog new it’ll be a more worthwhile kind of interesting and respec (subscribed).

I didn’t weigh into the entire Probloger/Amblogger thing because I just don’t believe in self proclaimed vigilantes mobs in any form of life and with the anonymity of being online everyone seems to gain authority that what they feel is right is the truth. More like truthiness (sorry I’m going through a major Stephen Colbert crush phase ATM and everything I write or say is heavily influenced plagiarized remixed from The Colbert Report).

    Hi Anthony,
I’m really tired of all of the guys running around looking for a fight to bounce on. Do you know what I mean? I think Darren and Duncan had a reason to be upset over the problogger thing, but the circler got a little larger than it needed to and seemed like so much knee-jerk adrenaline, maybe that’s why I find chartreuse so darn refreshing. She at least thinks about things, before she runs off slaying dragons.

Glad to hear you like her too.

I completely agree that anyone directly affected by it has full rights to be upset and take any action they feel at the time is appropriate. But like you just said, the circle did get quite large.

    Yeah, Anthony,
I’m feeling really good about how quiet it is over here in this little corner of the blogosphere. 🙂

But I guess I’ll have to start posting again soon. I have a couple of good ones getting ready.

    How’s your new blog coming?

Great question … here you go … The Unword Fictionary has good definition.

For my personal blog I missed out on the domain I wanted. It was available but by the time I put the order through (5 minutes later) gone. I wasn’t really motivated for that anyway so it’s a good excuse for me not to personally blog.

For the couple of business related blog projects underway just swamped with stuff and it’s Friday afternoon after a big headache thanks to being a patriotic Australian yesterday so meh is how I feel right now. Sorry.

    Thanks for the reference, Anthony.
That’s one I need on my virtual bookshelf.
It’s a word well-chosen for the use you’ve given it.
I send you some virtual tomato juice and lots of peace and quiet for that headache.

Oh man, I hope I haven’t cheapened myself in your eyes Liz because I have to admit that I had my own little say/comment (only once though) on the issue.

Damn it, it’s getting very jaded here in the blogosphere – lots of linkbaiting and ego’s on show.

Yes, Chartreuse has some good points – a fresh new voice, she’s easy to read (I wonder how long before she gets jaded though, and gets into the muck) 🙂

To be fair though, I think what caused the most uproar was that it was so blatant and that Vince (AmBlogger) came up with pretty poor excuses.

Also, the fact of taking a private email and going public put many offside – for the many jaded bloggers (I’m one but am fighting it tooth and nail) this seemed either one of two things – a pure theft for profit sakes or a linkbaiting tactic.

But hey, Chartreuse gives us another way to look at it – so all we can do is live and learn.

Phew, now where’s my nachos, Liz, and is that bar stool still there for moi 😉

There’s always a barstool for you, Martin, and plenty of hot nachos too.

I think there were plenty of entenuating circumstances around the Amblogger thing that made it okay to react to–some folks had a real reason to react, Darren, particularly. Others seemed to be just looking for a mob to join.

I like Chartreuse because she brings a brain, time, and a new point of view to the whole process, which as she keeps saying is anything but “pedestrian.”

    Hey Liz,

“I like Chartreuse because she brings a brain, time, and a new point of view”

You mean you gotta have some brains to do this stuff, dang it, that rules out many in the blogopshere 😉 kidding, folks 🙂

She’s on my rss reader now, so I’ll be keenly watching (I just love seeing a new voice make it big somewhere)

Going back to AmBlogger, I got to give credit where credit is due (I actually said that over there in a comment) – but I just read a post that I never knew I was looking for till I found it – it’s a few tips/plugins etc about opening links in new windows.

Give it a push, Liz – here – for me it’s probably the best post I’ve read this year so far in regards to making my blogging that much more easier.

    Martin,
Hey don’t you be spending too much time with the negative folks, I’d hate to see you go bad on me. The Headlines on the New Blog Herald would be just too painful.

I’ll try it out this discovery of yours and give it a push for you.

    Liz
