SOBCon 08 – The Update

July 17, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

Greetings all!

@Stephen’s mugStephen Smith here, or @Stephen as some of you may know me. Liz and Terry have invited me to do a little guest-posting here at the SOBCon blog and I am thrilled to be here.

I trust that you are all still as excited as I am about what you learned and the people that you met at SOBCon 08. I am working diligently on applying this crash course in Biz School for Bloggers and can hardly wait to show you all what I have been up to (it would go faster if I was better at code!). I’d also love to see and share what all of you have been up to as well.

To that end I have volunteered my services to Liz, Terry, and Co. to get in touch with all of you and help you get the word out. These are some of the things that the SOBCon community is interested in:
taking notes at SOBCon

  • Do you have a new blog, inspired by something that you learned?
  • Do you have a new product or service?
  • What are you doing to make your blog into a business and what would you like to tell the SOBCon community?

How would you like some help in getting the word out to the thousands and thousands of subscribers that we collectively communicate with? Of course you would, and here is how you can do it.

Please send me an email [stephen at hdbizblog dot com] or

DM me at Twitter [hdbb_stephen],

I will be happy to write/collaborate with you on an article for the newsletter and/or the SOBCon blog. We all have our own communities and could definitely benefit by sharing our efforts in new circles, to new eyeballs.

Who knows? One or more of us may be able to help you over an obstacle, see a new perspective, or make a suggestion about something that you haven’t anticipated.

Two heads are better than one, even if one is a cabbage. Think about how much 200 heads can achieve!

I am looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
@Stephen

A SOBCon08 “Re-Do”: Jared’s 20 Slides in 5 Minutes

May 8, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

Hi all – Starbucker here. Our fellow SOBConer (I think it qualifies us as a cult when we use terms like this!) Jared Goralnick was one of the presenters of the “20 slides in 5 Minutes” on Sunday, but had what I refer to as a “dreaded technical glitch” during his live presentation.

So, in the spirit of SOBCon, we’d like to present a virtual “do-over”. Jared has posted his slides at this location:

Awayfind Presentation

Check it out, and show Jared some SOBCon love!

Ready for SOBCon09 yet? Liz and I are already talkiing about dates next May. Stay tuned!

All my best to the SOBCon family, and thanks for all of your love and support.

Terry

SOBCon Hotel Update

April 5, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

Hi everyone, Terry Starbucker here – looking forward to seeing everyone at SOBCon08. I just wanted to pass along a tidbit we got courtesy of Denise at Build a Better Blog.

The Club Quarters hotel nearest the Summit has sold out of its rooms – however, the SOBCon discount at Hotel 71 is still available at $225 (but not for long – hurry!), and Denise reports she found a great deal at the Marriott Courtyard River North (just a few blocks away from the Summitt) on Priceline.com

So fear not, there are still plenty of places to stay – so register NOW!

Thanks Denise!!

Final Changes Offer More to Mastermind Teams!

March 25, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

Often Conflicts Lead to Opportunities

I read once that when conflicts in business happen it often works out to benefit both parties. I’m delighted to say that might be what’s happened to the SOBCon08 program!

During a conversation last night, Muhammad Saleem and I realized that he wouldn’t be able to fulfill his role as a speaker that weekend in May. Sad news. Thank you Mu, for letting us know in such a timely manner. We love you for being so involved up to this point. Hope to see you next year!

What To Do?

When I looked over the program I realized that this offered an opportunity to make more room for folks to actually think about what they’re planning and doing. Quick, I was on the phone this morning to Chris Brogran to talk about how he might combine his social media portfolio with what Muhammad was going to do. We both agreed that the two are a more natural fit together. We replanned the model and the presentation.

We reordered the day.

Now, there’s a new session in the afternoon for just thinking through the entire plan as a whole — mastermind teams can ask questions, critique plans, network or use the time to further their game plan in whatever way they see will work best for them.

Everyone wins.

The SOBCon program is really all about YOU

A Word from Our Local Baker

March 21, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

THC logo
When we launched our corporate site last year we had a clear vision of where we wanted to go and we understood pretty fast that we were not choosing an easy path. The web hosting industry is extremely competitive, but the competition was a secondary concern. This sounds hard to believe, especially since we promise to match any competitor’s price guaranteed, but the promise has more to do with our commitment to customer satisfaction than it has to do with fighting to becoming the most popular web host. We are not even aiming to go there, but we want to be bloggers’ first choice for web hosting.

Last year we read a lot about SOBCon and the fine bloggers who attend this extraordinary event. This year the event sounds even more promising and we are proud to be among the first companies to sponsor it. It simply makes sense for us to promulgate our corporate values by sponsoring excellence. If you take a look at our online history and read the numerous testimonials about our company, services and customer support, you will see that excellence is something we also strive for.

We host hundreds of websites and we carefully monitor their activities. There are many reasons why we do this and we can easily summarize the most important ones. We pledge to be a family safe web host – meaning that we will not allow mature content on our servers. We will also delete any website that promotes any type of questionable content without further recourse. These are serious concerns that help us maintain our integrity as a brand. However, when we monitor the sites we host the most rewarding experience is to learn from our customers, to grow with them and to promote their work if we can. This is how THC differentiates itself from other web hosting companies.

Our company philosophy is: to treat our customers with utmost respect, to create a bridge between our company and them, to offer room for real conversations and real relationships.

Do you remember the small neighborhood bakery where the cakes tasted better because the seller knew how to be a baker? Do you remember the little cookie he always kept aside for your child and do you remember the way he hand it out to your child with an open smile? He didn’t charge you more to be kind, did he? Besides, you always knew that if there was something wrong with the cake you bought, the baker would have solved the problem immediately. No false excuses. No extra charges. Well, THC is your local baker.

Cheapskate Blogger Seeks Roommate for SOBCon08

March 17, 2008 by SOBCon Authors

Are you interested in defraying conference costs? Me too! If you’re a nonsmoking female blogger who might want to split a room at Club Quarters for SOBCon08, please e-mail or Skype Kristen King (kristen(at)kristenkingfreelancing.com, www.inkthinkerblog.com) to talk about being roomies for a few days.

Thanks!
