Taken Over by Pirates

Successful Blog Was Take Over by Pirates

Last Nights’ Open Comments Night get together in at sea found that our ship was taken over by pirates and we ended up living off grog, and weevils, supplemented by a few oranges and limes to keep us all from getting scurvy. Unfortunately a virulent strain of the infamous link leak virus. Link Leak Virus is a special strain of the indie virus with blogtipping mutations that occur in threes.
Cool links were shared.

Tonight was also HART’S BIRTHDAY AND HE CELEBRATED WITH US!

Pirates in Attendance

Many Pirates were in attendance and it was decided that we would start a Successful Blog University. That was between the Pirate talk and Pirate jokes.

The first subject on the agenda was pirate gardening. Some hints.

Hi Trisha!
How is the pirate garden?

4
Trisha Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:04 pm e
fine – the pirates are growing well!

5
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:04 pm e
What kind of stuff do you mulch them with?

6
Trisha Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:05 pm e
maybe that’s the problem – I’ve been using salt water

7
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:06 pm e
You’d think they’d like that. Maybe some old shivering timbers and some arghhhhichokes.

9
Rick Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:09 pm e
Ahoy!

I hear seaweed would be a great mulch.
…………..

Then we moved to pirate talents and food.

Anyone up for starting an urban legend on how pirates invented crayons while on vacation?

17
Cuileann McKenzie Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:14 pm e
Hi everyone!
Hi Anton — I’m glad you could make it!
Sorry I’m a few minutes late. How bad of me to invite someone and then show up after they do. Someone’s got to teach this girl a lesson!

20
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:14 pm e
Anton,
You need to know that crayons were part of the pirates treasure. They’re very special here.

We keep them in the sidebar — along with snack and beverages — which tonight i guess would be grog and weevils.

24
Rick Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:17 pm e
Can we fry the weevils, or do we have to eat them sun-baked?

29
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:20 pm e
Rick,
You can be the cook of this here ship until we all get scurvy. Then I pick Joe.

30
Anton Olsen Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:20 pm e
Thanks all for the welcome!

I think the plank is a bit harsh for Cuileann. That should be reserved for someone who eats the last crayon or drinks the last of the grog.

31
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:21 pm e
That’s it, Anton!
You got it. No crayon eating on this brig.

We’ll let Cuileann go.
>>>>

Then we started with the pirate Jargon.

Chris Cree Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 7:23 pm e
Avast ye scurvy maties! They’ll be no paying of fees on this here brigantine unless you’d be wantin to stand before the mast!

Joe Says:

Ok, here is first hand knowledge for ya…

It takes exactly 23 comments to get to the Beer Store and Back…
😉

Cheers. Eh. Y’all.

Wow, Cuileann, that is a mess! I can just picture some of the sentences…

Cheers mate. How y’all doin’ eh?

Hehe.

Then onto pirates themselves

Chris Cree Says:

Anyone know who was the most successful (notorious?) Pirate?

93
Ben Yoskovitz Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:03 pm e
Notorious/successful pirate? Blackbeard?

98
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:06 pm e
I’m voting for Captain Hook!!!

John Curtis Says:

Hey all! I’m just pausing at the Apple store in San Antonio and thought I’d drop in. There are no pirates here that I can see, but I’ll keep looking.

102
Joe Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:09 pm e
@ Chris, Jean LaFeete?

108
Ben Yoskovitz Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:11 pm e
I’m glad it worked for you Joe. I’ve experimented with a few other plugins – so let me know if you have any other WordPress-related questions.

I still say Blackbeard. Or was it Bluebeard? Redbeard? Fuschia Beard? I know the most famous pirate definitely had a beard

113
Ben Yoskovitz Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:15 pm e
I think one of my comments was eaten. Chomp. Chomp. Liz, did it walk the plank?

114
Chris Cree Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:16 pm e
Nah, I’m thinking Askimet hung it by the yardarm!

116
ME Strauss Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:16 pm e
My husband wants to know why no one has said Captain Kidd?

I’m sticking with the fictional coward Cap’n Hook. He had the box office.

123
Chris Cree Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 8:23 pm e
Ok, O.K.

The most successful pirate of the sailing era was
(drum roll)
“Black Bart” Roberts. Here’s the Wikipedia entry on Roberts

Then Chris and I made up stories about Christine’s modeling Career while she talked about pirates songs

Christine Kane Says:

Hey! There’s a picture of me bathing on ah Pek’s website. I guess that was just after I got off the pirate ship…

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Right after which we went after the real pirates — the telcos.

202
Douglas Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 9:04 pm e
Yeah, we have to deal indirectly with telcos. That’s more at a datacenter level. We have a big cage in a large datanceter.

211
Douglas Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 9:08 pm e
It’s a cage with a lot of blade servers in it.

216
Rick Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 9:10 pm e
With signs that say “DON’T FEED THE ANIMALS” and “NO THEY SOUND LIKE THEY SPEAK ENGLISH, BUT IT REALLY IS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND THE WORDS MEAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT”

I know, I know. Long for a sign, but short for a wireless contract.

217
Anton Olsen Says:
July 11th, 2006 at 9:10 pm e
Telco Cage Match, Pirate Style!

Give each telco CEO a hook (cut their hand off first) and an eye patch and let them duke it out in a double elimination cage match!

Well you get the idea . . .

Cat, who lived in Borneo, brought us the truth.

249 TO THE END
And HART brought some of the funniest Pirate jokes I’ve ever read or heard. AND IT WAS HART’S BIRTHDAY TOO!!!

Near the end Scot wanted to know whether a nuclear sub could be a pirate ship. I just wanted to say thanks for coming and he was asking for a synopsis.

Martin made it this morning and got in his happy birthday wishes for HART.

And so ends another Open Comment Night . . . I’m tired.
