I Can’t Wait Until . . . Now!

ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 6:00 am

Can we talk about . . .

how we think about our lives?

I watch people. I watch myself. I hear what we say. We say, “I can’t wait until . . .

until I grow up.

until I move away.

until I get a job.

until we get married.

the baby is born.

until he walks.

until she talks.

until he can . . .

until she can . . .

until I can . . .

until we can . . .

until morning, until 5 o’clock, until my birthday, until you come home, until we leave, until, until, until . . .

In a few thousand thoughts, we can wish our lives away.

This post sorta reminds me of when you were young and you told your parents you wanted to be a fireman or ballerina and they said cool. But when you hit highschool they always tell you to be practical….

    Ugh.

    Great Blog!

    Welcome and thanks!

We need bigger dreams. We need to be what we are. It was just a thought that we cna’t forget about now while we’re looking forward to what’s next. :)

    Liz,
Thats what I think of every moment. Until I get a domain. Until I start to blog professionally and so many. If I achieve one “Until”, another would grow up.
    Good Post.

Are they goals or are you missing the present while you look ahead?

One of the greatest lessons life has taught me:

    I can wait.

So many people are so busy looking ahead and “waiting” for something these days, finally the day comes when they realize that life has passed them by right under their noses and they didn’t notice a thing.

I can wait. One day at a time for me. To me life is just so much better that way.

    Good post, Liz.

    Liz,
They are my one of the small goals to achieve the main goal. I am not losing the present. But I have a feeling that I think a lot about future.

    Hi Kirk,
The more I live the more I can wait too. :)

While I’m waiting I think my thoughts, I watch the people walk by, and sometimes I even catch the sky changing colors.

Yeah, you and me in our wheelchairs. :)

    Hi Ram,
That makes sense. When we are young, most of our life is in the future so we think about that. When we are older we learn to savor every moment that passes just a little more than the last. :)

    Liz,

I love this post. We’re always waiting for something to happen to us, instead of seeing how we can live and enjoy and make the present wonderful.

I have a related post called “Waiting for Perfection” at http://fearlessdreams.com/blog/waiting-for-perfection_69.html

Oh yes Liz. Older people don’t think of future a lot. If at all they think, it will be about their death. Very few think of other things.

Ramkarthik, You would be AMAZED at how much in the future older people live. The future may be tomorrow, or it may be a couple of hours from now, but the average old person is no more living now than you or I.

    Rick,
This is indeed amazing and also making my heart beat fast. If you see one thing, average life time of a person differs from country to country. What would be the average life time of person in future who are living in the country which has least average life time now?

Maybe Im out of topic. But still I do want to know about this.

Be careful. That’s a BIG generalization to say that “if they think it will be about death.” I know people well in their years who are very alive and living every moment with pleasure.

    Liz,
Do see the next line to it. I have said that few people think of other things. Also by the word older people I mention those who are at the age of above 80. I know few people at that age who spend their nights sleepless. I have witnessed it in my grandfather.
    Hope I didn’t offend anyone.

    Let’s see…

I want something different than I have now. Yet I only have what I have now to compare it to what I don’t have and want. So then, I’m living in what I want instead of in what I have. But in living in what I want, I can’t have what I have because I’m not living in what I have.

Soooo…how can I really know what I want when what I want is based on a comparison to what I have, which I don’t really have because I’m living in what I want not what I have.

    Make sense?

Gosh, I can’t wait until I figure this out :)

Great post Liz and I love the feedback from others. It reminds me of a phrase I have heard that I need to “want what I have.” If I start at that point and then set goals for the future then I’m okay. It’s when I’m dissatisfied with life and thinking that once something happens everything is going to be fine that I set myself up for disappointment. Life doesn’t always go the way we want or plan. By finding what I want spiritually and personally in the present I roll a bit better with the curve balls life throws me. When I put all my hopes on a particular event happening and it doesn’t I break and become discontent with life.

Another phrase that comes to mind is that while we make plans, God watches and laughs.

    Hi Ellen,
You know, it crossed my mind today. Hmmmm, I wonder where Ellen is. This seems like something she would have something to say something about. :)

Mix anticipation with expectation and it can be so disheartening. I hear what you’re saying.

If I’m content with myself, I can move forward with a cheerful voice, a strong heart and a clear head. I can appreciate the little joys as well as the big ones. I don’t measure things. :)

BTW, I heard you met Chris Brogan. He’s a Twitter friend and I hope to meet him at a Boston Twitter event or Boston Podcamp in the fall. He seems very interesting.

    Liz,
It’s all about cash flow. Once I get it right, I’ll be able to be what I want to become. I was doing great arbitraging Google until they banned my AdSense account. I have content sites, not spammy MFAs, and I was sending traffic primarily with AdWords. But if you look at their new TOS, they don’t allow you to drive traffic to sites with AdSense using AdWords. But I think they are cracking down mainly on one-person shops. Big media outfits still do it and you don’t see them getting banned. Oh well… you can do whatever you want when you’re the king of the hill. This business model worked for a few years and I made a nice chunk of change from it. Now it’s on to bigger and better things. ;)
