A Good Rant Can Be Better than Dancing!
I was sitting here, thinking about January . . . yuk! I decided maybe I should stir something up but, I didn’t feel like it. I looked at all things I should be doing. They didn’t want to get done. I checked my archives to see what might inspire me. Wouldn’t you know I found?
It’s dated January 2006. That’s when I knew it’s not me. There’s a reason it’s called the dead of winter.
I put on some music to soothe my soul. This is what played:
Let’s dance! Put on your red shoes and dance the blues. . . .
That’s what I heard: Let’s rant! [Apologies, Mr. Bowie]
Hey, I say, “blog your experience.”
I put my red shoes and decided to go with the feeling.
A Winter Rant in Red Shoes
Winter is deadly, dastardly, and despicable because
- it’s too cold.
- it’s too long.
- it’s too easy to fall down.
- snow is always whiter on someone else’s street.
- the wind actually hurts.
- it’s too dark too early.
- it’s too easy to hibernate instead of doing what I’m supposed to.
- warm coats and hats don’t come in “attractive.”
- parking places hold cars hostage. Don’t get me started about traffic.
- staying inside makes folks loony.
Whew! What a relief! Now back to the previously scheduled, David Bowie.
Sometimes you just gotta put it out there.
Feel free to put on your red shoes and . . .

Reasons to love winter
Coming in to a warm kitchen in the dawn
All the crazy people go outside to play in the snow while you snuggle up with a cup of tea and watch
All the bugs undergo population control
The grass doesn’t have to be mown
If you’re in school, snow days!
Everybody else’s car is as dirty as yours
You get to see the cat look out the window and says “Uh! Uh! Not me.”
Your wife doesn’t expect you to walk to work
Even tv watchers are bored with television
You get to look forward to spring

I swear you are the best medicine! I’m laughing!
I love Your wife doesn’t expect you to walk to work

Knowing where you live, I can feel the wind biting as it hits.
I had to laugh, especially after reading last year’s post and seeing myself in the attitudes in #2 (writer’s block) and #8 (too much to do, not enough time). That’s been me since Christmas.
Oh woe! Woe is me!

Here’s my take on winter…
But I hear ya, Liz. Some days when it’s gray and the sun sets too early and you’re wearing so many layers you feel like the michelin man, sometimes winter is a bugaboo.
There are definitely days when I just want to vent like you did. Glad to see letting it all out!

Hey Ms. Stone!
Thanks for adding your take on winter. I like it most days too. It’s nice to look out to see the lake and know that I’m warm inside.

Heh-hey, Rick!
That old post is from 2006! Can you believe that!
Yeah, it’s bitter cold this week. I’m staying in and thinking that the comforter on my bed is my best friend.
Writer’s block to me these days is “eh, I just don’t wanna!!”

I have red boots that take me walking in the snow on blue days. Does that count? Dancing…dancing…dancing.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Easy!
Of course, those red boots count, especially if they have you dancing!!

Can’t say the same about winter, loving it and also being on the other side of the hemisphere and all.
Of course. The reason why I love winter. It’s easier to put on more clothes to keep warm than stripping everything off to stay cool. Plus…you always have more than ample excuse to snuggle with someone in the dead cold. Nothing like good company under a warm quilt.

Hi Edrei!
Bitter cold days with below freezing temperatures and gray skies that both last too long can be a bummer every once in a while.
People say that it’s easier to put on more clothes to stay warm, but there comes a point where that doesn’t work anymore . . . it’s the opposite side of the spectrum from removing them to stay cool.
Staying at home is a definite upside to a cold winter day, especially if there’s warm chocolate and someone to share it with.

More reasons to love winter:
hockey
That is all.

We loved the hockey players in our neighborhood. They made the ice really smooth for us to skate on.

I went for a walk with a friend earlier this week and the wind was actually hurting our eyeballs!
Gotta get me some red shoes …

Hi Anna!
I know what you’re talking about. I had my hand outside of my pocket and my skin actually hurt. It was only a minute.
Maybe red gloves are in order too!

Love the video from David Bowie, it takes me back a FEW years…
A good rant can tell your blog reader really what you’re thinking instead of sugar coating it. I’ve found that when I’m reading various blogs including one by James Brausch, he tells you the truth, not to be mean but to make you take action.
Yes it’s cold here too.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Dan!
Glad you enjoyed video! I thought a January night called for some change of pace. Sounds like James has a few fans who read my blog. You’re the second to mention his name here this week.
