The Mic is On: It’s about the Great Turning Points …
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 7:00 pm
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
Here’s how it works.
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.
… in our Lives!

Let’s start with:
- Graduation
- Birthday
- Marriage
- a HUGE Decision
And, we’ll talk about whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)
Oh, and bring links about great turning points in life to share!
–ME “Liz” Strauss

Hey Liz,
Am I first? Am I first?

Hey Liz! Welcome home.

*tap*tap*tap* Is this thing on?
Marti said
Hello Joe! You’re always number one in my book!
Hi Liz!
Robert Hruzek said
Howdy, Joe! How do you do that - be the first commenter, every time!?
Howdy, Glenda!
Welcome back, Liz!
Joe said
Hey Glenda, Hey Robert,
I think Liz may still have Jet Lag. ;-)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hey, J, R, M!
Joe said
Hey Marti,
You are always #1
Robert Hruzek said
No doubt, Joe! But still, it’s a lot easier going West than East, I’ll tell ya. When I went to/from Taiwan it was rough!
Robert Hruzek said
Howdy, Marti! Long time no talk! :-D
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi All!
I was rebuilding my sitemap. It was misbehaving and I didn’t want you all waiting and waiting and waiting.
Thanks for the welcomes!
Joe said
Robert, I had problems with ONE hour difference with SOBCon, I don’t know how people can handle hours at a time. :-0
Robert Hruzek said
I thought all that snoring was you, Liz (jet lag and all)… but I guess not!
ME Liz Strauss said
6-8 hours of flying is nothing!
Marti said
Hi Glenda and Robert! Wonderful to see both of you!
ME Liz Strauss said
But gee! It’s great to be back home!!
I like my own pillow . . . and you guys too!
Todd Jordan said
Howdy and hello. Is this thing on?
Marti said
Hi Todd! Welcome home, Liz
ME Liz Strauss said
Hey Todd!
Howdy! Great to see you as well.
Break out the Klondike bars!!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Joe, I think the trick is drink lots on the plane - non-alcoholic - to minimize jetlag. Me, I avoid drinking on planes.
Todd Jordan said
Who’s birthday?
ME Liz Strauss said
What’s been happening since I’ve been gone? Anyone change their life in the most amazing ways?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hey tojosan!
Todd Jordan said
Liz, so glad you made it home in one piece, and definitely it’s Klondike bar time. What’s the question again? :)
I usually don’t drink tons on the plane only because they only serve you half a can of soda now.
Marti said
I’ve almost stopped sniffling from daughter graduating…*sniffle*…
This is the first time in 25 years I have not had a child in school. Feels very odd. A turning point, no doubt…..
Joe said
Glenda, I am not a good flyer, & I can’t sleep, so a beer or 2 goes down easy.
Then I calm down a bit and am Ok. ;-)
Todd Jordan said
Hey Glenda, Marti, and the crew!
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
We’re talking about turning points . . . look at the title!
Todd Jordan said
Wow Marti. I’ll be so glad when my youngest finishes college.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Nothing too amazing, Liz, unless chunky highlights count!
Todd Jordan said
Doh, I saw that and just went right on. :)
About turning points. Well no turning points in action, so much as in realization that some folks that are friends, aren’t supportive of me taking blogging more seriously and doing a better job at it.
ME Liz Strauss said
Marti,
I took my son who graduated last year with me. :)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Understandable Joe! Then try water, once pleasantly relaxed.
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda?
Chunky highlights?
Marti said
Todd, how are all of the health concerns around your household? Better, I hope
@Glenda - chunky highlights are cool!
Robert Hruzek said
I tolerate flying but enjoy traveling. For long distance, though (like over oceans), Business class is the only way to go! When I flew to Taiwan, I had enough miles to upgrade both ways, and it was heaven!
Todd Jordan said
Liz, what a great idea to take him along. My son wants me to take him to Asia. Not at those ticket prices.
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd?
Nonblogging friends no doubt?
Todd Jordan said
I’ve had a bout with the throat virus/infection thing. Clearing up mostly now. My MIL is doing better and stable at home. Ty
Marti said
Glenda, that’s like, wide blonde highlights in your hair, right?
Robert Hruzek said
Turning points is the subject, eh? Not in the middle of one at the moment (unless it’s too gradual to notice).
Todd Jordan said
Liz, some of my twitter buds that are bloggers. They’re not enjoying my tweets about blogging and trying to take things more seriously. They think I’ve gone over to the dark side or something.
ME Liz Strauss said
It was a cool thing to have him with me. We’d traveled together to look at colleges. That seems like just last week. Now he’s telling everyone in London he’s from NYC and I’m from Chicago. Too cool.
Marti said
Liz, that is so cool! You are a great mom!
We missed you last week, but Phil and Diego did a great job. It was nice, but not the same….
:-)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
tojosan, just wait til you start hitting it big with your blog and then see what they say.
My Dad doesn’t have a clue either. I write for a website. Period. No point trying to explain it.
ME Liz Strauss said
Phil is very entertaining. :)
Todd Jordan said
Part of the problem? Some of them have been blogging and tweeting for ages. They assume that since they didn’t know me that I must be a newb in more ways than one. What they don’t realize is I had a website up before most folks knew there was an internet. :)
Marti said
I flew back to KC from California once and got upgraded to first class. Sat across the aisle from Jane Fonda. She was very nice.
Todd Jordan said
Marti - way cool. I’m going to fly with you more often. Ha.
Marti said
Yeah Todd, when you’re a rich and famous blogger you can go “neener neener neeener”
LOL
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Yes Marti, more than subtle highlights. More than I envisioned, but what the hell!
ME Liz Strauss said
So, Todd, what’s the issue with you taking it more seriously? They think you don’t know what you’re doing?
Marti said
Glenda, I’m sure your hair is beautiful!
Todd Jordan said
As for big changes, what I hope is a big change is the fact that new friends are emerging and new things are afoot. :)
Robert Hruzek said
Oops. Gotta go cycling y’all - I’ll be back!
Yikes! 97 degrees out there in Houston town!
Todd Jordan said
Liz - that’s part of it. Part of it I think is they are not kind to people doing blogs PRO I think, unless you are one of the in friends. it’s one thing to have a blog as a side thing and not care about your readers. It’s another entirely to take readership and building a community seriously. Blogging is no longer a badge shared by friends, but something else it seems.
Joe said
Hey Todd, tell your friends to talk to me if they want to meet someone who doesn’t know what he’s doing! :-)
Todd Jordan said
BTW 97 is TOOOO HOT.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Marti, sorta see it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/8684493@N02/2500435937/in/set-72157605115964429/
Todd Jordan said
BTW weather here in greater St. Louis area is very nice again today. Sigh.
Marti said
Today is the one year anniversary of when Miss Snark, the anonymous literary agent blogger, closed her blog up. It just got to be too overwhelming for her. But I will never forget winning a “Crap-o-Meter” contest there, and her immortal words, “Bingo. We have a winner”.
It was a turning point of sorts, as many other agents are now blogging, and her blog STILL gets thousands of hits per day.
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
Does that mean that only the “cool” kids can have serious blogs? Really?
You need new friends.
Marti said
See you later Robert
Marti said
97 degrees is indeed way too hot. It was almost 90 here yesterday, but today only 82 and very pleasant.
Todd Jordan said
That’s cool Marti. I never heard of this person before but now I’m sorry I never visited her blog.
Liz - yes, cool people blog - cooler people encourage their friends to be successful however they value it.
Todd Jordan said
Note: I’m enjoying Friendfeed much better than my RSS reader or Twitter these days. Just saying.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Todd, are they really your friends then? I love your postcard project and how you’re reaching out to your readers. I have yours right here; makes our connection more tangible. I still need to reciprocate.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Marti!
I forgot about Miss Snark! She was so deliciously witty!
Todd Jordan said
Glenda - yes, it brings up the question of what a friend is again. I wish I could flag people as contact vs friend and intimate vs acquaintance, supporter vs just along for the ride.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Liz, tell us more about your trip. You said it was a hug success. How so?
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
Don’t leave out, people who don’t know you, but ask for things anyway. :)
Marti said
Yes, Miss Snark was a pioneer, and indeed a very witty individual. I read Nathan Bransford now. He’s great too.
Todd, I send you good wishes for much success!
ME Liz Strauss said
Glenda,
It was a hug and a huge success too!
3 universities and 3 invitations to work with their students. :)
Liz Williams said
Hi Everybody - Welcome back Liz. Todd, I want to hear more about Friendfeed, if you please.
My transition involves a ukulele…
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
yes, I wish twitter had more flexibility too. You can always unfollow them!
ME Liz Strauss said
Can’t wait, Liz, to hear about the ukulele. That’s a hard word to spell.
Marti said
Liz Williams, that is intriguing…a ukulele?
Todd Jordan said
Hey Liz! More ukulele. :)
Liz you must have rocked their socks off. Can’t wait to hear longer stories about the whole thing. Will we be reading about it in the history books too? :)
Todd Jordan said
Liz - saw this guy w/Jimmy Buffett playing the uke and he rocked! Never heard one do that before.
Marti said
Todd is that a cowbell reference? (I’m always amazed at how many people saw that old SNL skit which WAS hilarious, BTW)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
oh sorry about the missing e! Do you mean “work with” as in “get paid for what you do”? That is always good!
ME Liz Strauss said
Yeah, Todd, in the history of blogging and social media. :)
Liz Williams said
Hot damn about the the colleges/gigs, Liz - I’m doing a little jig on your behalf!
Let’s go with uke then. Trying to make this short enuf is hard. Still thinking how to do it. If Joe could just put it in a poem…
Todd Jordan said
Poetry works for me Liz W.
Liz S. Honestly, it’s weird too weird telling folks about online stuff still. They just have no clue.
Oh oh, turning point, new start thing. New blog - http://socialmediachristian.com/blog Not really ready to drag in the biz but already have suggestions of folks to partner with and a few fellow contacts interested in supporting the effort. I’ve always wanted to try something along those lines and figured why not.
Joe said
Liz W,
I think there are some Hawaiian (?) songs that would go well with the Uke, and most of the words have an “A” or “OO” in them/ :-)
Liz Williams said
Yeah, the uke is big right now, and not in the old way. Jazz, classical, rock - you name it. Here’s a link to the hottest player in HI. This video has 2.4 million hits:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9mEKMz2Pvo
If you google ukulele, you’ll be amazed. There are uke shortages in Europe and GB.
Todd, with Jimmy Buffet? Too cool!
ME Liz Strauss said
Yeah, Glenda. I went over to the first one for $$. The other two were initial meetings. The next visit will be three gigs for “honorariums.”
ME Liz Strauss said
I guess the most “presitigious is the invitation to both speak and give a seminar for students at Oxford Brookes Publishing School. Yes it’s THAT Oxford. :)
Todd Jordan said
Wow, Liz S. is becoming a rogue scholar! : )
Liz Williams said
Liz - what work will you be doing with the colleges?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Awesome Liz! That sounds like a great turning point!
Marti said
LOL! Good one Todd!
Liz Williams said
OMG!! Liz, what a thrill!
More plane rides though.
We will all be able to say I knew her when…
Todd Jordan said
Another story of a successful woman I can tell my granddaughters about. :)
Marti said
I am so proud and honored to know you, Liz
ME Liz Strauss said
Oh Todd,
Maybe I’m unscholaring them. :)
Todd Jordan said
Liz - LOL whatever it takes. :)
ME Liz Strauss said
Each of the three universities is looking at the whole ball of wax a little differently, but I’ve got all of them to have both the business school and the publishing school involved together. I’ll be working with both faculty and students with ways to employ social media tools to build community.
Liz Williams said
Uke story #1: We get to baggage claim in Maui and there is a guy strumming the uke and singing Tiny Bubbles to his friend. He invites me to sing along. I do. It’s such a cheery sound, I start head to the music store near our condo and buy one.
I’m in love.
Liz Williams said
You’re giving me goosebumps, Liz.
Cross-pollination in the academy - that’s big.
How are you feeling about it all?
Todd Jordan said
Now Liz, you’ll need to bring Liz and uke along to help demonstrate live media streaming.
ME Liz Strauss said
Liz that story is so you!!
You need bricks of gold for the houseboat and it would be perfect. :)
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
Media streaming — that’s too funny!
Joe said
Liz W
What’s the tuning on a Uke? Is it like a violin, a tenor banjo, last 4 strings of a guitar?
Marti said
Totally off topic - I hope David Cook wins American Idol. He is from the next town over from me.
We now return you to regular Open Mic Night
:-)
Marti said
Liz W - that is a great story!
ME Liz Strauss said
Liz,
I’m still working on how to leverage it into something that makes a real splash of an income. :)
Timothy Johnson said
Hola everybody! How’s the discussion going so far tonight?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
“a real splash of an income” in academia? Isn’t that an oxymoron?
Marti said
Hi Timothy, great to see ya!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Hey Mr T! Good to see ya.
Todd Jordan said
Liz S. - nothing wrong with that. I smell book though. :)
Timothy Johnson said
Howdy Marti
Welcome home, Liz! How was tea with the Queen? Did she yield her crown in the presence of your greatness?
Timothy Johnson said
Hi Miss Glenda… don’t get away without that dance tonight!
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Glenda!
I was figuring to leverage the academia into corporate somehow. :)
Todd Jordan said
Hiya Tim.
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Tim!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
definitely not Mr T, I’ve been waiting for you to make your entrance.
Liz Williams said
It was a blast - best time I’ve ever had waiting for my baggage. And I’m not even close to the turing point part yet.
Uke story #2: Alas, the new uke won’t play in tune, so back it goes, but not before a trip the the maker’s shop to make inquiries.
There’s an old man in the corner playing amazing uke and another sitting across from him strukmming along. I plop down next to him and make my confession. Soon, one ukulele after another is being put in my hands and the old man is teaching me song after song. My partner, Carolyn, supplies the vocals. 2 hours pass in ukulele bliss.
Timothy Johnson said
Howdy Todd!
Wonderful Glenda. I’m thinking a country slow dance tonight. I’m listening to the Mavericks sing “Something Stupid” with Trisha Yearwood… great stuff… I love my iPod
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
ah, there IS that angle, Liz. Yes!
Todd Jordan said
wow Liz, that sounds awesome. Makes me want to grab a uke. :)
ME Liz Strauss said
Ukulele Bliss . . . sounds like the name of a novel or blog.
Liz Williams said
Liz - I think the splash comes from the association. It’s a resume builder and adds heft, both to your rep and to blogging. Which means you can raise your fees and call yourself an expert, which also means you can raise your fees.
And go after more 3expensive venues for speaking.
Timothy Johnson said
Is there something wrong with Twitter? (I mean, more than usual, and tonight specifically)
ME Liz Strauss said
I’ve got a proposal in to speak at London Online this year. :)
Todd Jordan said
Tim - yes - all day
Todd Jordan said
BTW - Friendfeed find me? http://friendfeed.com/tojosan
And how am I going to work a uke into a blog post? :)
Marti said
Liz W - love story #2
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Mr T, I’m a country girl at heart, with rock n roll highlights.
Oh, you’d better bring your dancing shoes next May. I’m coming to Sobcon09!
Liz Williams said
#123 - It does sound like a title!
Tim - Is there uke music playing on the ipod?
No? Dude!
Liz Williams said
Marti - it was the highlight of our trip.
Marti said
Timothy, I used Twitter about an hour ago to put up an SOB call-out, but I closed the window because it was acting glitchy.
Todd Jordan said
Liz W. Awesome isn’t it! That sounds like a life long memory.
ME Liz Strauss said
I think it’s a story worth writing and keeping. :)
Todd Jordan said
Shhh. Don’t post a message now. It’s very quiet.
Timothy Johnson said
I tawt I taw a Twitter. -Tweety Sheesh - figures.
Glenda… followed it up with Mark Cohn’s “Walkin’ in Memphis” and Rascal Flatt’s “Life is a Highway” - I’m a closeted Country fan… thank goodness for iPods so my “urban wife” doesn’t pick on me.
ME Liz Strauss said
Tim,
Is school out for the summer?
Liz Williams said
Uke story #3: Tho’ completely besotted, I am unable to play anything out of tune, so I go back to the original music store and confess to having perfect pitch. One of the owners is similarly afflicted. He puts all the expensive ukes in my hands to prove that they can play in tune.
But, $1600.00 seems catastrophically expensive for a vacation whim.
Finally, he hands me his own uke, a Kamaka, made by the 3rd generation of a Hawaiian family. I *like* it. He says “we’re getting in a shipment in two days. I might have one that isn’t already sold.
I spend the next couple of days playing every uke on Maui. Though I find many who play in tune, I do not fall in love.
Timothy Johnson said
Liz, well, the standard semesters are done. However, summer session started last night. I let them out early since I’d just returned home from New England yesterday afternoon. I’m ready for tomorrow night’s class though.
Todd Jordan said
Awwww Liz.
Marti said
I had a r-e-a-l-l-y long day with grandma, so I think I’m gonna bug out early.
Great stories, wonderful conversation! Here’s wishing each of you peace and joy!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Your secret is safe with me, Mr T.
Todd Jordan said
take care Marti. Be well.
ME Liz Strauss said
Good night, Marti!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Bye Marti.
Timothy Johnson said
Later Marti… have a great night!

Liz Williams said

Angela Maiers said
Hello Everyone! Have you recovered from SobCon?? Tim-love the picture?
Suzie Cheel said
My plan is to have teleclasses and a program to help bloggers use loa to take you blogging to be really profitable etc
Timothy Johnson said
So Liz… this creates a new level of danger on commenting here… who knew pictures could be added?
ME Liz Strauss said
Suzie,
Tell what BHAG stands for. :)
Joe said
I am SOOOO glad Liz didn’t get a pic of me at SOBCon08 This ugly mug ain’t fit to show! ;-)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
What do you need, Suzie? Hey, could we do a tweet-a-thon or something, assuming the bird stays awake?
Liz Williams said
Uke story # this is going on too long, I apologize:
The Kamakas came in. I fell in love on the first strum. I bought one and have been playing it since I bought it. I love it more all the time.
Here’s the turning point: I’m a classical guitarist (my major in college) who hurt my hands badly in 1992. I haven’t been able to play since then, a terrible loss. For the life of me, I could not dumb down my playing enough to experiment with recovery, and it depressed me for years. For some reason, the uke calls to me in a way that is allowing me to let go of all that and dream of playing again. I see a physical therapist tomorrow. I’m in love enough to learn to play it left-handed if that’s what it takes. No idea where this change in attitude came from. It feels like grace, and I’m grateful.
Thanks for being here to listen.
Liz Williams said
#159 are there 50 shades of red?
ME Liz Strauss said
I only happened to capture that one because Tim stood right in front of me grinning. :)
Suzie Cheel said
that sounds great Glenda, I’ll even stay up late or get up early. what do others think
Todd Jordan said
what is LOA? And finally recovered enough from SOBCon to actually put in a full days work honestly.

oh Liz W, you gave me goosebumps. That is amazing. I’m so glad you’re seeing it through. Who knows where it’ll lead you. Thanks for sharing!
Liz Williams said
Joe - #172 - that knocks me out! Beyond true.
ME Liz Strauss said
Liz W. I know where it came from.
You followed your own flashlight. :)
We started with the word play.

@ Joe,
Thanks, there are about 20 more to go up

Tim I think I found #51 in the shades of Red! :-)
Angela Maiers said
Just catching up on comments-
Liz- your college gig sounds fabulous. Us “University” folks need all the help we can get-(right Tim).
Life Happenings for me:
Turned 41 this week-much harder than 40 for me. (Glenda-I need chunky hilights to cover the grey!)
Did my first UStream presentation today!
Finishing the last chapter of my book-finally! I am sick of writing and thinking about it!
Best part of the week-did a Skype project with my daughters 4th grade class from a connection on Twitter. I love Twitter!!!
I guess it has been busy….
ME Liz Strauss said
Hi Angela,
You really need to read Liz Williams’ Ukulele stories. They’re beautiful!
Todd Jordan said
Busy week Angela - Happy Birthday.
Suzie Cheel said
@angela love the skype project via twitter.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, thinking out loud, if we put together a team of core tweeters in different time zones and we each tweet for an hour or so to send your mess around the world. What do you think?? I’ve wanted to try something like for a while. Perhaps some would blog about the experiment too. yes? No?
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Oops, “your message”.
Liz Williams said
Liz - Yes! The flashlight! And, what could be more playful than an instrument no one takes seriously?
HA!
Glenda - given that you get to dance with Mr. T every week, I’m honored to be giving you goosebumps.
Angela - twitter and skype - howz that work?
All - I’ve been thinking about twittering clients on their cell phones through out the day - just little reminders about practicing collaborative behaviors. Anyone done this with twitter?
Todd Jordan said
If you can send messes around the world, I want in on that .
Timothy Johnson said
Angela - would agree with you if I considered myself “university folk” - I’m a proud adjunct with no aspirations of full-time academic activity.
Allows me to remain irreverently relevant.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
lol tojosan!
Angela Maiers said
Glenda - Great idea!
Here is a brianstorm, Mike Sansone and I had this week: what if there was a TwitterMobile= Twitterers would road trip, set TweetUps at different places across the country, and Ustream it all! Fying Jays could sponser the Twitterbiles, restaurants could get free advertisement as they prepared for the Tweetups, Wouldn’t that be somethin’!
Liz Williams said
I’m a minor tweeter, but I’ll tweet for Suzie. I’m in the Pacific time zone.
Angela - Happy birthday. At 41, there’s no looking back to the 30s. Next big one is 50. Get how that is harder than 40.
ME Liz Strauss said
I’m irreverently relevant with you Timothy!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
That sounds awesomely fun too, Angela!
Angela Maiers said
Suzie-your work is absolutely beautiful! WOW!
Todd - Nice to meet you! LOVE the flat Stanley project! Very cool!

Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Super LW! I’m a little tweet too, so we could double up on the Pacific. How many time zones are there? Twenty four??
J. Erik Potter said
@Joe - yes, and I was there.
Good evening everyone! Commenting from hotel in Wash DC
Angela Maiers said
Glenda- count me in on the world Tweeters! It sounds seriously cool!
Liz - I met another teacher on Twitter doing a videoskype project-connecting his class of 4th graders w/a class in every state. My daughters class represented Iowa.
The kids shared info back and forth about state history, famous sites, best parts of living in their state. Best parts: the mall, Adventureland, and The Iowa State Fair!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, should we try it? I can help mobilize/organize Team World after Friday. Then we set one day to tweet. What do you think?
ME Liz Strauss said
Good evening, Mr. Potter!!
How goes the life of the distinguished SOBCon08 attendee?
Todd Jordan said
Very cool Angela. Hiya J.
Angela Maiers said
J Eric - How are you? Just did a Tweet Up with @zemote- Jeff Ohara-said he met you at a recent conference. It was a great conversation!
Liz Williams said
Joe - uke is tuned GCEA, but the G is a high G. Called re-entrant tuning. Gives it that peppy happy sound.
Many other tunings are possible, but that’s the main one.

Todd - i got so excited about the friendfeed post on your site, I closed my browser trying to get back here.
I have utter confidence that you will work the word ‘Uke” into a blog post. Utter.
Diane Penna said
Wow, didn’t think I’d have much in common with anyone here…it’s my first open mic visit. However, I see LOA and Flat Stanley mentioned, and suddenly I can relate to you!
News in my life: we are getting ready to relocate to a new state because of my DH’s job - born and raised Californian, so this is scary and exciting for me.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
awesome Angela. Sounds like this calls for a spreadsheet with time zones, names and twitter ids.
Maura said
Hi Liz…long time!
Ah, a big turning point in my life was my husband’s accident. He was badly injured at work and went through two surgeries, eighteen weeks of pain treatments, and eighteen months of physical therapy in order to walk again.
I was consulting (barely) and desperate for work.
After many prayers, a call came in to setup some Exchange servers. Three weeks later, I had enough work to keep us afloat.
It is now seven years later, and I still work for the same company…only now I work from home.
As you can imagine, this was a huge turning point for my husband as well. He took that downtime to study real estate and became a licensed realtor and now that is his passion.
It is amazing how new doors are opened.

@ Glenda okay what time is it there now? OR we could chat via skype?
ME Liz Strauss said
Todd,
We need to talk about scheming and planning things. :)
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, announce on blogs and/or twitter. Would a wiki be better than a spreadsheet so twitheads can self sign-up. Hmm, I’ve never wiki’d. Might Des teach me how to set up one?
ME Liz Strauss said
Good night, Todd!
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, right now its 7:30 pm tues.

@ Glenda,
yes a wiki is a great idea Des has just gone to Brisbane- but he set one up to work with someone in China and said it was easy. I’ll ask him when he comes back and and i am sure he will teach you- so we will make contact early your am?
ME Liz Strauss said
I think that you can figure out how to set up a wiki on your own. It’s not hard. Go to http://www.pbwiki.com Basically you just go in and edit the page.
Glenda Watson Hyatt said
Suzie, I need to run too. Let’s connect via dm or email.
Thanks Liz for another great Tuesday night!
Suzie Cheel said

ME Liz Strauss said
Good night, Glenda!
ME Liz Strauss said

ME Liz Strauss said
Suzie,
You should write your thoughts about starting a new blog in Beach notes . . . that would be something worth sharing. :)

Goodnight Glenda, talk later, will watch for you on twitter
Suzie Cheel said
Okay , interesting as I started 2 and have put the other one on hold. okay that is a great idea- for this Sunday?

I think it’s a great way to let folks know what you’re doing and who you are as a person. :)

Turning points can be either good or bad
It depends on how we handle it and not be sad
If we can see the light through the tunnel
We will guide things right through the funnel
And come out the other end a little smarter
Learning more and becoming a self-starter
Whether it’s music or moving or and accident
That changes our perception of the incident
It is likely that we will find in the end
That sometimes we can be our own best friend

Suzie - What happens when it’s always windy?
ME Liz Strauss said
Such an interesting idea “windmill woman.” I could see that as a good thing.

you really need to just go and sit and listen to that wise inner voice.
Maura said
And let the winds blow…I suppose.
Maura said
Liz - I’m doing well…thanks! I recently wrapped up my third (and hopefully final) large work project for the year so things have been crazy since December.

That is great to hear! I’ve been reading updates on how things went. I’ll plan on attending next year for sure!
ME Liz Strauss said
Suzie,
That question is a good one . . . when I can answer it with something other than “everything.” [grin]
I’m better with “What next?”
ME Liz Strauss said
Maura!
I’ll consider that a plan!
Maura said
I read on Joanna Young’s blog that she was there! How incredible!

Hey, it’s still Tuesday, right? Central Time anyway. Feel like I’ve lost a day - my girl was off school today for pink-eye. And yesterday she had bluetongue (cotton-candy sno cone created.)
Turning point? RIGHT NOW!! Time to make my list of things to prioritize. Thanks for the inspiration.
