The Mic is On! What’s Hot and What’s Not?
ME Liz Strauss wrote this at 6:59 pm
It’s Like Open Mic Only Different
Here’s how it works.
It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME
The rules are simple — be nice.
There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.
Tonight we’re talking about what’s bloggy hot and what’s not!

We might also talk about
- what the cool bloggers wear when they’re posting
- hot blogs, hot bloggers, hot ideas for bloggers to blog about
- spam, weird search strings, off the wall comments
- what cool things you wish someone would come up with
AND THE EVER POPULAR,
Basil the code-writing donkey, and I heard Milton the Moose might show up.

Hey Liz,
Me first, me first…
I think I beat Steve and Milton.

Just thought I’d clue everyone in to something that’s just coming up the pike.
http://kickasswebdesign.com/wordpress/2006/10/ie7-creates-potential-ecommerce-problems/
http://kickasswebdesign.com/wordpress/2006/10/update-to-ie7-ecommerce-bug-and-a-mcafee-warning-as-well/
As if we didn’t have enough to worry about with that dang broken browser, now it’s throwing false positives on legitimate ecommerce sites and telling surfers that it’s a PHISHING site! Nothing like killing someone’s business with bad software. Everyone who does ecommerce needs to come down on MS about this before final release. One of the things that triggers it is third party payment processing, so any blogger with a donation button could be on that list.
ME Strauss said
Hey Joe!
You made it! Steve just wrote an email to say that he’d be here in an hour. I told him to bring Milton.
ME Strauss said
bj, That’s Joe!
bj said
Hey, Joe! Hey, Liz!
ME Strauss said
Phishing is definitely not hot. Is it only in IE7?
bj said
Nope, the McAfee SiteAdvisor does it too.
Joe said
Hey bj,
I think I saw something about a similar thing on JenSense Blog.
It involves Vlog and antivirus problems…
ME Strauss said
So what does one do about it?
ME Strauss said
I think we should just go donate money to Microsoft. :)
bj said
All you can do is navigate every part of your ecommerce site while using IE7, including going through payment processing and see if it triggers the warning. If it does, then there’s a link you can click as the site owner to report the false positive.
Joe said
Well the problem is between AdSense Video ads and Norton AV.
The recent update that Norton did is now blocking Vads from Google.
Nothing we can do, it’s up to norton and the people who use it to complain loud enough…
bj said
With McAfee there’s a firefox and IE plugin you can use to surf your site and see if the big red X appears from one corner of the screen to another. What joy!
bj said
I have a feeling that there will be many more of these problems coming.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Evening everyone! I’m here early!
Joe how are you?
Nice to you see BJ, and Liz!
Steve’s coming back?!?! That’s great news!
Joe said
I think we’re talking about different problems that affect any web business…
But still hurts internet business either way.
ME Strauss said
A BIG RED X that sounds like right out of Sci-fi!
ME Strauss said
Steve’s coming tonight, and I think. He’s bringing Milton too.
Joe said
Hey Liz,
I saw a pic in your sidebar that looked familiar, and lo and behold, it’s our Christine Kane…
Cool
bj said
Certainly isn’t the big red X on a pirate map, har har . . .
ME Strauss said
Yeah, I wrote about her on my writing blog, and I thought she should be there because she’s so cool. She’s HOT!
bj said
Hey, Ben!
Ben Yoskovitz said
Liz - how many people have emailed you about working with me? *grin*
ME Strauss said
Let’s see now, hmmmm, Ben. There have been exactly none who have emailed me already about working with you since you put the sign today.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Aw shucks. *chuckle*
That’s ok. Maybe I have to make the button blink?
Joe said
Hey Ben, I didn’t see you come in, must have been when I was looking in the sidebar. ;-)
ME Strauss said
Maybe no one trusts my opinion, Ben
ME Strauss said
Ben,
What’s the story on Basil these days. I see his blog has a new design.
Joe said
There I was just reading page one, over and over and over…
There is really a tiiimmmmeee waaarrrpppp hhheeerrrreeee
ME Strauss said
Joe,
Not turning the page does NOT count as a time warp. That is NOT HOT.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Liz - Basil’s site got a theme update, with some quirks to be ironed out.
He’s in beautiful Nova Scotia with Derek Andrews. You have to go read about his adventures in Halifax.
Derek’s a woodturner and craftsman…but has all the blogging + writing skills to make Basil’s adventures in Nova Scotia come alive!
seanrox said
Hey everyone! Lets see… what’s bloggy hot… my friend Joe launching an automatic way to convert a static HTML site into a WordPress theme.
Something else hot is WordPress 2.0.5 should be out within days.
ME Strauss said
bj,
Are you still here? Where are you from and what do you do when you’re not turning the web upsidedown?
seanrox said
What’s not so hot around the blog world…. I seem to be coming down with a cold… but I still made it to open mic night :)
Ben Yoskovitz said
seanrox - what’s 2.0.5 going to have in it?
ME Strauss said
Hey, Rox, SeanRox,
That site conversion thing does sound pretty hot. How’s it work?
Ben Yoskovitz said
What’s not hot? Well…have you ever had a post dugg and then generate thousands of hits, only to see the comments on digg are almost all flames?
The Web — as friendly as it is — still requires some thick skin. *grin*
Joe said
Hey seanrox, it’s not me, I wish it was, but it’s not…
Sasha Manuel said
Hello! I thought I’d join in since this is soo up my alley! LOL. I’m so glad I have time today! :)
Hi, Liz! Hi, everyone!
seanrox said
Hey Liz… take a look at the link to my post for a lot of the details of how it works… it’s really easy… basically drop your static code into a window, upload some of your images and drop a couple wordpress tags, hit submit and wham! Instant WordPress theme.
Ben, a lot of security features, bug fixes and new features are coming win WP 2.0.5.
Check out WordPress Podcast Episode 7 for more details.
ME Strauss said
Sasha!
You look absolutely ravishing HOT!!
Joe said
Ben,
Told ya, go read my post from today. It helped my numbers a lot…
One little link.
It’s a good thing you have thick skin tho.
Ben Yoskovitz said
seanrox - thanks, I’ll check that out.
Oh you know what else isn’t hot - crank calls. Someone crank called me yesterday … was … how shall I put it … raunchy? A rather rude awakening…
seanrox said
Ben, I agree… crank calls are not hot.
I want to know who the person is without caller ID who keeps calling and not leaving a message. Suck it up stalker, at least make a sound or something ;)
Sasha Manuel said
Aw, thanks! I’d like to say I am whenever I’m blogging but usually I’m in my PJs whenever I’m blogging/working. Hahaha. I guess I’m not cool enough yet, eh? I really should stick to naming the hot blogs and bloggers in my “little black blogroll” LOL. ;)
Ben Yoskovitz said
Joe - I did read your post. I’m very happy to see the traffic head your way.
Interesting how it came from what I’d call a “sneaky link” (I have a better name for those links, but it escapes me now - cause I’m listening to a podcast.)
My Feed Subscribers went up from about 50 to 1,250 — but it’s all Firefox live bookmark people that won’t stay…
seanrox said
Most of the time I blog in my boxers… at least when I’m at home… yay home offices.
While out and about, I usually have on blue jeans and some sort of geek shirt… today it’s “I read your email”.
seanrox said
tomorrow’s blog wear will be a suit and tie… got some James Bond work to do :)
Joe said
Ben, even if only 10% stay, that is still 12.5 more subscribers. :-)
That’s not bad for one post, huh?
Joe said
sorry, move the decimal point…
ME Strauss said
“I read your email.”
That’s HOT!
So is “Little Black Blogroll.”
That’s HOT too!
Ben Yoskovitz said
Joe - that’s very true. I’ll be writing about the experience on the blog, either this week, during Blog About 5 Things Week or next week when that’s over…
ME Strauss said
I’ve been thinking up a game to play based on comment spam. It’s sort of like Poker.
seanrox said
Hey Liz… I won’t be able to stay long tonight… I’m coming down with a cold, so I want to get some extra rest… but I’ll stick around for a bit more…
I ordered pizza for everyone… didn’t think me behind the grill while sick would be good…. unless you run antivirus on your open mic nights :)
ME Strauss said
Sorry to hear about your cold, Sean. I think everyone’s had it, got it, or gonna get it.
There’s a sentence to take out of context.
seanrox said
Someone’s gonna get some? w00t. Now that’s hot :)
Rick Cockrum said
Hi all!
bj said
I’m a comfy exercise clothes kinda girl. Usually curled up in a ball with keyboard and cat ensconced in a ball on my lap.
seanrox said
Speaking of “that’s hot” did you hear Paris Hilton is going to give up sex for one year? HAHAHA… I think she’s had enough for a few years based on news reports.
Ben Yoskovitz said
I’m already recovering from my first cold of the year. Change in temperature, kid gets the sniffles, bam, I’m toast.
It’s going to be a LONG winter.
Joe said
Ben, I didn’t count the points I made on my post, if it’s 5 you can use it for your 5 things project.
ME Strauss said
Hi Rick!
bj that sounds really nice.
ME Strauss said
Paris Hilton — not hot.
seanrox said
I only get sick maybe twice a year and this is my first real cold, so I’ve had a pretty good run for 2006 without being sick.
I think burning the candle at both ends is finally catching up with me… this is the gods telling me to take a break and not work so hard.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Joe - don’t think it works in the format, quite right. But if you can whip something else up, I’m happy to add another link to you.
I’ve got 4 posts from others waiting to announce - just waiting for a 5th…since it’s all about 5s this week.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Evening Rick…how goes it?
seanrox said
Paris Hilton - not hot, I agree Liz… but what is hot is Weird Al Yankovic’s latest parody white and nerdy.
Joe said
bj, except for the cat part. There are four of them round here and one gets on my lap, then another chases that one and so on.
Problem is, they keep playing with the keyboard… ;-)
ME Strauss said
Weird Al’s Parody sounds worth finding a link for.
seanrox said
Weird Al, white and nerdy, that’s hot :)
Hey everyone, the pizza has arrived, so dig in and get it while it’s hot.
ME Strauss said
Sasha, I thought of you today when Akismet was eating my comments over at TechZ. That was not hot.
seanrox said
Hey Liz, I just posted the link… see comment #70 ;)
ME Strauss said
I would’ve gone to go get it, Sean.
Thanks. That was HOT to do that.
ME Strauss said
Do you remember Dr. Dememto? He was HOT like Weird Al is.
Joe said
Liz, we’re having an Indian summer kinda day (and night), not Bloggy, but HOT…
ME Strauss said
Sasha,
What’s hot in tops and bottoms?
seanrox said
Not really hot but Donny Osmond is a back up dancer for Weird Al… very funny indeed…
You’re welcome for the link Liz. As always, trying to be helpful.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Thanks for the pizza Sean.
I’ve found that the visual editor on WordPress can be “not hot” from time to time. Screws up the HTML every so often and wastes time. So I’ve disabled it.
Joe said
Liz….
ME Strauss said
If it was bloggy HOT, Joe, would that mean there was lots of humidity?
seanrox said
Of course I remember Dr. Dememto. He’s Al’s biggest influence.
I really enjoyed Dr. Dememto. I have some 8-track tapes of some of his stuff from back in the day… and yes I still own a working 8-track player… yes I am a geek :)
ME Strauss said
What Joe?
ME Strauss said
Dr. Demento at midnight playing “Fishheads.”
Joe said
That’s HUMILITY.
seanrox said
Hey Ben, turn off the visual editor in WordPress. Makes for nice, clean html and you can still use all the things like bold, etc.
You’re also welcome for the pizza…
Rick Cockrum said
Thanks for the pizza, Seanrox. I haven’t eaten all night.
Hi Ben, another batch almost ready? Cool! I look forward to them.
ME Strauss said
That’s HUMILITY.
Joe, I thought you were talking about the Indian summer weather.
Steve said
Not hot - snow
hot - milton in a pink tu-tu :)
Ben Yoskovitz said
Sean - yup visual editor is now off. Too much hassle.
Rick - another batch ready, soon as I find one more submission!
ME Strauss said
Steve and Milton
Nothing hotter than a skinny moose in a pink tutu.
Dossy Shiobara said
Evening, everyone. Not sure how long I can stay tonight … but at least I made it.
Joe said
Liz, we were, but there were 3-4 conversations going on a once, so…
Me, lost again.
ME Strauss said
Don’t be lost, Joe. I’m still in your computer. You’re safe still.
Steve said
Oh Milton is coming in about 2 seconds..
Ben Yoskovitz said
Steve is that you? Really you?
Joe said
Liz, We’re off pace.
1 hour = 92 comments, we should be at 120 or so :-)
seanrox said
Ok everyone… the cold is kicking my butt… I need a hot bath, some nyquil and my bed… have a good night… enjoy the pizza… see you all around the blogspear…
Steve said
Joe ever been in a chat room? almost the same idea…
Steve and Milton said
Hey Ben - it is me… oh and Milton…
ME Strauss said
Hey Everyone, Dossy got stuck in Akisment.
Look back at #91. Say hello.
Sasha Manuel said
Akismet eating comments is so definitely NOT hot! :(
Joe said
Hey Steve, I thought that was you, where’s Milton?
bj said
Oh, sorry Liz, I had to duck out, the Foley scandal is keeping me busy on my political blog.
http://bitchslappin.net
And when I’m not doing that I’m designing custom skins for bloggers and ecommerce folks. Or out with my camera.
ME Strauss said
Akisment is COLD AS ICE AND SHOULD BE FROZEN AND BROKEN TO PIECES.
ME Strauss said
No “have-tos” here, bj. They’re definitely NOT hot.
Ben Yoskovitz said
Hi Dossy!
Rick Cockrum said
Hi Dossy! G’night Seanrox. Thanks for the pizza. Take lots of juice and B vitamins.
Joe said
Akismet has been nice to me so far ;-)
I can’t complain, but I probably don’t get as much junk as the rest of you.
Steve and Milton said
We are here!
ME Strauss said
Good night, Sean.
Thanks for coming and thanks for the memories!
Rick Cockrum said
Why do you use Askimet, Liz? It seems awfully hungry. Does Spam Karma 2 display such wanton behavior under load?
bj said
joe, my cat Briggs has determined that things on the keyboard do things on the screen. Nothing in my life has been the same since.
Joe said
Yeah, the Steve and Milton show is in town.
Sasha Manuel said
Hi, Dossy!
At T2B? The photo collage I did on ONE shirts by Bono has some HOT women modeling them. Plus the photo essay I got from Time that I just featured — HOT fashion!
Rick Cockrum said
Hi Steve and Martin. I thought you were waiting backstage with Kammie?
Steve and Milton said
Joe, we are skipping through town… may stay a while..
bj said
I just use bad behavior. Went from a few hundred a day to a few spams a day. Mike, the creator, is a good guy too.
Ah Pek said
my host’s server was down for the whole afternoon and that’s definitely something that’s not hot which got me very hot!!
seanrox said
Thanks for the suggestion Rick… I’ll be sure to drink lots of juice and take some B vitamins. I ready doubled up on vitamin C today.
Steve and Milton said
OK here is the big question these days…
Movies or TV?
ME Strauss said
Sasha that Time photo essay is really cool.
Rick I think anything on this blog would have a problem. I have almost 17,000 good comments and 20,000 spam — that doesn’t count the pingbacks that I delete daily — the SOB and net neutrality ones that are all the same.
Sasha Manuel said
It’s movies for me!! Definitely hot.
bj said
Movies or TV?
Neither. If I can’t interact with the screen I fall asleep.
seanrox said
A little of both Steve/Miltion… TV for CSI Las Vegas and Movies for all the new movies coming out this Friday…
Joe said
Liz, Can’t you shut off your pingbacks, that way you shouldn’t have to delete them.
One less problem anyway.
ME Strauss said
NCIS — HOT
Steve and Milton said
Sasha, it is movies for me too. I have actually really enjoyed miniseries stuff like Band of Brothers, Forsyte Saga, etc..
My wife likes tv but that is not hot in my book. Lame lame lame…
ok I watch Lost religiously and Alias when it was on.
ME Strauss said
Hi Ah Pek
Sorry about your server. That’s not hot.
Rick Cockrum said
Definitely movies. Of course, I’m prejudiced. We’re down to broadcast cable at home. A certain toddler insists on Big, Big World, Sesame Street, and Mr. Rogers.
You save all your spam? Or is that just the number it’s caught?
Sasha Manuel said
You should check out the bikini evolution photo essay, Liz. It’s quite interesting. :)
ME Strauss said
Joe,
When my pingbacks were shut off, that was one of the things that caused the problems with my trackbacks and with Technorati — not that everything with Technorati is HOT. Technorati is not hot right now. But having the pingback feature turned off was really screwing up my blog.
Steve and Milton said
Liz, I saw how much your blog was worth, now that’s hot… :)
Rick Cockrum said
Ah Pek, You getting here so early is hot.
TV series on DVD is hot. One more season of Buffy and I have the whole show! (Yes. There’s nothing like watching teen angst in a campy horror setting. :-))
Joe said
Sci-Fi, History, Discovery channels on TV, no movies without DVD. The good ones I have I saw 100 times already.
Steve and Milton said
Firefly series and Serenity movie = HOT
ME Strauss said
Steve,
If someone would pay what it say on Blog Network Watch my blog is worth, I’d think it was HOT too. :)
ME Strauss said
Watching the TV series 24 on DVD is HOT!
Sasha Manuel said
My choice in movies aren’t that hot, though. Heehee. I like watching the teeny-bopper, chick-flick romantic comedies. But, then again, I AM a chick after all. LOL.
Anybody seen the Sean Penn film, The Illusionist? Any good?
Steve and Milton said
Yea the good thing about that rating system is it puts all the blogs into perspective when comparing them against each other… So you can tell where your blog stands with others. As for somebody paying that much to take it off of your hands is another story altogether. But heck it is hot anyway.. LOL
Rick Cockrum said
Cloud melting is evidently hot, too. That’s the second most popular search phrase that leads people to my site.
Dossy Shiobara said
House MD is hot. I so identify with the Gregory House character.
Sasha Manuel said
Sex and the City DVD is HOT. Watched the entire 7 seasons in 3 days. LOL.
Dossy Shiobara said

Just popping in and saying hi. Not going to be here too long. :)

You guys will have to tell me about all of the most curious blogs that you know about. I want us to look WAY more interesting than the boring A-Listers. :)
ME Strauss said
Hi Douglas,
I’ve been hearing rumors of you folks having fun. . . Could this be true?
And where’s Kammie K? I thought she was coming. :)
Service Untitled - Douglas said
At the business channel? No way. No fun there. Never, ever.
I’m not sure if Kammie is coming. I didn’t know she was. :P Have you met Lena?
Dossy Shiobara said
Liz, define “curious.”
ME Strauss said
Douglas,
Whew! What a relief. I was getting worried there. No I’ve not met Lena. But I know the three of you and . . .

Hey Douglas!
I like The Green Geek for energy and environmental stuff.

Liz, I think my mother may be blogging soon. This way, when I talk about blogging, I can say everyone, including my mother has a blog.

Dossy,
Interesting, charming, wonderful, in a strange and new way . . . unusually unique.
My friend Peg says I’m the most curious person she’s ever met. I ask her if that means I ask a lot of questions or that I’m really weird. She says, “See.”
That’ kind of curious.
As Alice in Wonderland said, “curiouser and curiouser”
Service Untitled - Douglas said
Hi Rick, how are you?

I already read 3 blogs of yours Liz, how many are you going to end up doing? ;-)

How many feeds do you folks subscribe to? I’m up to 305 feeds now … although I should probably unsubscribe from 20-30 of those that I really don’t read anymore.
ME Strauss said
Good night, Rick.

Not hot - got an electrician coming Friday
ME Strauss said
Not hot — a client who just canceled our third meeting out of four.
Sasha Manuel said
That’s cool,er — HOT, Liz!
I’m relatively new to feed subscription. I like visiting the blogs personally but I’ve accummulated around 10 now. Most are still bookmarked. I like personal blogs best. I like reading about their lives. Uh — does that make me “stalker” material? Eeek.
Yvonne said
I read The Superficial before I even knew what a blog was :)
Steve and Milton said
He Liz, how do I get my skinny moose network added to blognetworklist?
I emailed him and haven’t heard back… not hot lol
Joe said
Not Hot–K having to dye hair in the kitchen. Even my room (office) is not safe from the fumes.
ME Strauss said
Hey Yvonne!
You’re that cool that you would be reading blogs before you knew what a blog was.
Too HOT!
Steve and Milton said
What’s a blog???
Steve and Milton said
Moolog = Moose Log
ME Strauss said
Steve,
It’s that stinky thing you used to have one of.
Steve and Milton said
why, that sure did stink
Yvonne said
Liz - he he :)
Dossy, I subscribe to 48 feeds ATM. And not many of them are the larger ones like Boing Boing etc - I don’t have time to read them, actually.
ME Strauss said
Yvonne,
The name of Steve’s blog that got hijacked was “Why My Blog Stinks”

Steve and Milton said
Superficial moose? He’s real man… sitting right here gulping whiskey!
Hendry Lee said
Hey Liz, Hi all..
Studies also show that people actually use RSS without knowing it..
Talking about the number of feeds I subscribe to, I had about 370 feeds (after cleaning them up last week), categorized into 12 folders.
On busy days, I only read 78, which is in my “!Must Read” folder.
ME Strauss said
Hey Katie!
You should know by now, I don’t have clue what we’re talking about either, but that doesn’t stop me.
Steve and Milton said
I just talk to myself and hope somebody listens and responds… hehe
ME Strauss said
Hendry Lee
Hi there!
What would happen if you didn’t read all 78 of them?

ME Strauss said
Yvonne,
I’m starting to wonder what you’re using now. . . .
katiebird said
Hi Liz!
I was just testing to see if it really would be fun to just jump in (usually I break the rules and go back at least a couple of pages) and it really was (is) fun.
On the feed thing, I’ve got about a hundred subscriptions, but I almost never check them. Even figuring out how to put that feedburner icon in my sidebar (which was nearly impossible to do with my new template) didn’t remind me to check them.
I’m stuck back at the bookmark level.

Yea I got all the content back but while I was away the hijackers did play…
If you try to go there you end up at Milton’s blog.
Hendry Lee said
Liz,
Nothing will happen actually.
But I personally would feel bad because it means I didn’t try to find sources to blog about the whole day :)
ME Strauss said
Blog hijackers are NOT HOT!
Yvonne said
I use Vienna (a Mac newsreader) :)
FYI, I recently did a post on why partial feeds aren’t hot.

Hey Yvonne … love your blog layout. Very clean, easy to read. And yes, partial feeds = teh suck.
Sasha Manuel said
I find bookmarking better esp if I know I need ample time to look through a blog. That way, when I do find the time to check it again and I do want to stick around, I’ll subscribe. Call me an OC.
katiebird said
Yvonne, If I could figure out how to get my full feed back, I’d do it in a flash. I used to have them then I tweaked something and now they are just partial feeds. I feel badly about that.
Steve and Milton said
Picture of me and milton on the same page:

Now THAT is HOT!
Hendry Lee said
Yvonne,
Agree. I used to weigh on partial feeds, as a marketer myself. But the more I use full feeds, the more I like them.
Now, unless a feed is really important, I usually don’t subscribe to them if they only allow partial feed.
Full feed + rss ads are the way to go, at least IMO.

I have had Google Alerts for “work at home on the internet” for months. I started using it in the hopes of seeing one of my posts. HAHAHA
I still use it for ideas for posts, but I rarely read any of the actual posts, I just skim the titles to see if anything peaks my interest.
Sasha Manuel said
Right on, Liz! Definitely NOT hot.
Did you hear about what happened to mine? Good thing Duncan was there to save the day! Woohoo!
ME Strauss said
No Sasha. What’s the story? How was Duncan your hero?
Yvonne said
Dossy, thank you :)
katiebird - have you tried going to Options –> Reading –> “For each article show: full text”?
Hendry - funny thing is, I prefer seeing ads in my feedreader, than I do on an actual live site.
Hendry Lee said
Sasha, is it the browser bookmark, or bookmarking service like del.icio.us?
Sasha Manuel said
T2B got re-directed. Duncan found the culprit and fixed it.
Joe said
Anybody know how to put full feeds on a WP Blog???
I have “read” set for full feed, I have feedburner set at full feed, and it STILL comes out partial feed…
ME Strauss said
I have full feeds on Successful Blog.
Dossy Shiobara said
Joe, what URL is your FeedBurner feed pointing to? Perhaps it’s pointing to your partial feed URL.
katiebird said
Joe, I’m poking around wordpress.org right now (for the millionth time.)
I wish I knew the trick…
Steve and Milton said
What’s successful blog? never heard of it….
Feedburner should work. If not you can adjust the look and feel in your style sheet as well as at your feedburner control panel.
Sasha Manuel said
Hendry, browser bookmark.
Hendry Lee said
Joe, WP already spits out full feed for your blog.
http://workingathomeinternet.com/WP/feed/
Try to reload the feed from FB.
Yvonne said
Joe: it might depend on what newsreader you’re using. I subscribed to your site using my Netvibes account (second choice for me!) and I’m getting a full feed.
Joe said
Steve (Milton) I tried both of them and still only get the partial. Unless the actual code in the style sheet has to be changed?
Then I may need Basil the Code Writing Donkey, but he’s travelling. He should be here in another week or two, maybe I’ll just wait for him to show.
Hendry Lee said
Some bloggers are going full feeds today. Yeehaaa…
Sasha: could you give some tips on how to use that effectively. I find myself piling bookmarks and never return to them. Never.
Yvonne said
Um, yeah - some newsreaders give only partial feeds no matter what *doh*
More info here: http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/10/02/full-feeds-ahoy/#comments
Read the comments. And Liz - please don’t ever switch to partial feeds! D:
Steve and Milton said
Yes I like to be fully fed, not partially fed…
Joe said
Yvonne, thanks, maybe it does depend on the reader. I only checked the feed through feedburner.
Maybe I sould subscribe to my own blog to see what I get. (I do have an email feed, but that is partial too).
ME Strauss said
I’m not a partial feeds type of girl. I come from a place of abundance. :)
Steve said
Oh man milton passed out again. Just me here
candice said
Hi y’all.
Hendry Lee said
Joe, if I load your FB feed in Firefox, it currently show a partial feed, but not with your WP feed.
The problem is somewhere between, or in FB.
candice said
Oh, and I wish I could help with the wordpress, but I’ve been running movable type for three and a half years now, and I’m not changing over…
Yvonne said
Joe - not to sound pushy, but you might want to consider going to Reading Options and changing “Show the most recent posts” to a larger number (mine’s set at 24).
I like subscribing to a feed and being able to quickly browse a person’s previous posts :)
Steve said
I think I need a couple more blogs… lol
Any ideas of what’s hot I could blog about?
ME Strauss said
Hey Candice!
What’s HOT in your world these days?
Sasha Manuel said
Hendry: I like mine to be uber-organised so I optimise folder-use. I assign folders with good labels,
i.e. Blogs To Check, Research Tools, News, New Bloggers I’ve Met, etc.
so everything will be easier to sift through, know what I mean?
Yvonne: Look how far your voice has reached about the full feeds! Cool.
Yvonne said
Adding to what Hendry said - your Feedburner feed only shows cut-off posts. So it’s definitely FB which is screwing you over!
candice said
Liz, shoes! I found this gorgeous pair of cole haans on sale a couple weeks ago and spent way too much money on them. (But they’re worth it. They’re superwoman shoes.)
Not so hot is the homework I’m doing right now.
Joe said
Hendry, I don’t know why the difference, I haven’t gotten an answer from FB yet, maybe I never will.
But, I vote for Full Feed myself, even though I still go to the Blogs themselves. More for the interaction than anything else. ;-)
Yvonne said
Nice to see you here Sasha :)
Btw, does anyone watch Prison Break? I’ve been DL’ing it online, and now it’s not back on until October 23 :( It hasn’t even started on Aussie screens yet either.
*not hot*
katiebird said
Yvonne!! That was the answer. My RSS feed was set to summary in Reading Options.
I just changed it.
Thank you so much!!
ME Strauss said
What kind of homework, Candice?
candice said
Discrete math - proofs with formal logic and that kind of thing.
Now I’m tackling French which is online stuff and very easy.
ME Strauss said
Yvonne’s a hero! And she’s been watching Prison Break since before she knew there were prisons. (just kidding) :)
ME Strauss said
Discrete math. I was good at that once. But I’ve never used it since. There are some things you don’t use after school. :)
Hendry Lee said
Joe, try to reload your FB feed. It will force FB to load your feed again from your blog. That would do it, especially if you haven’t changed a thing.
Yvonne said
katie, you’re welcome :)
I think there’s 5 different conversations going on here, crazy stuff. It’s been fun as usual, but now it’s time for lunch!
Thanks for the fun Liz and everyone else ^_^
Joe said
Yvonne, I just set it at 3 like the regular url. I did it on the blog to make load time faster.
I know it probably doesn’t make much difference on RSS but yours is the first feedback I’ve gotten on the subject. Thanks.
katiebird said
How do you reload a feedburner feed?
I’m still seeing summaries, and I’d like to force the change.
candice said
Calculus is a good example of that for me. Being that I do programming work a little of the discrete stuff is applicable, but calculus you don’t need unless you need to do video game physics, and there’s a very small number of folks good enough at those insane hard maths (Multi-variable Calculus and up.)
ME Strauss said
Yvonne,
Thanks for spending your morning with us. We love having you around, you know. :)
Sasha Manuel said
That almost made me fall over, Liz! Real funny. LOL.
ME Strauss said
Sasha,
What exactly are you laughing at? Your comment comes a little later than my comment, I’m sure. :)
Sasha Manuel said
Liz’s sense of humour is HOT.
Bye, Yvonne! Bon Appetit!
ME Strauss said
Candice,
I suppose that discrete math does help us learn how to think things through if any of it sticks. . . . if any of it sticks. . . .
Joe said
Yvonne, thanks.
Hendry, I was going to ask the same thing katiebird did, I never reloaded FB.

Hendry Lee said
katiebird, FB reread your feed if you post a new entry (and ping appropriately) or you login to your FB account and force it to reload.
Sasha Manuel said
Quite understandable. Twas this one. LOL.
ME Strauss said
Uh-oh-yeah. oh-yeah, well, you understand I was, well being a smart ass. Yep I was.

Hi, Ben — I’ve been distracted by my own RSS feed.
I’m sorry Yvonne is gone. Thanks to her, I’ve got that full RSS feed going. It even has my crossword puzzle!
Now to try getting adsense in it….
cat said
Hmmm … my post didn’t go …
Ok, for those who are having feedburner problems …
I just did this a week ago. I’d done something wrong and it went from full feeds to partial. Partial is … not what I wanted.
Here’s what I did to fix it on my WP blog. Of course, it was after researching for two half days, trying everything and nothing worked. I even reloaded rss, everything.
1) turn off feedburner
2) delete the feedburner plugin from your server
3) download a new feedburner plugin and upload it
4) turn everything back on (it will remember your settings)
VIOLA!
Sasha Manuel said
LOL. I can’t imagine talking to you in person, Liz — with that and all the questions. Heehee. But it sure will be crazy fun I bet!
katiebird said
Thanks Hendry,
That worked, I saved my settings without changing anything and that did it.
(and that Hi Ben is because I somehow was looking at another page and it looked like he just arrived. I’m confused now.)
Hendry Lee said
katiebird, either that or try out feedvertising. it is hot now.
katiebird said
feedvertising…(skuttling off to another window)
ME Strauss said
Hey, Sasha, sometimes I just can’t help myself, the words just want to come out. :)
I get bored easily. What can I say? :) That’s the real reason I write 301 links in a post.
ME Strauss said
Thanks Cat,
That sounds like you had a couple of really trying days in there. It also sounds like folks have this partial feed accident a lot!

Goodnight Liz — You keep those words coming out, they’re great!
Hendry, Sasha, cat — It’s been wild multilevel conversing together. Goodnight.
Getting that feed thing settled pooped me out. I’m snoring as I type.
ME Strauss said
Hendry,
I think Yvonne might have been the source. I’ll try to look it up.
ME Strauss said
Good night, Katie, sleep well.
Sasha Manuel said
That’s why I you’re not in my bookmarks, Liz — your in my feeds! I like reading words that just come out of you but you still make everything look so un-cluttered. Did I make sense? Your posts amaze me most of the time. :)
Sasha Manuel said
Bye, Katie! Have a good rest!
[I keep reminding myself of the time difference. Heh.]

Goodnight Kate, Trisha, Joe and all. It’s been a real treat today. I’m planning on going back to visit the blog article about full feeds and bookmark it for later.
Btw - when I went from partial to full I announced it on my blog (just in case my regulars got dropped off w
