Beach Notes: A Few Minutes for Yourself and the Sky

July 25, 2010 by Liz

Every week Suzie and Des send the most amazing thoughts and photographs from the beaches of OZ. But everyone deserves a day off.

Do you ever take one? Do you ever take a day for yourself?
You don’t need beach. Actually you don’t even need a whole day, if other things call you.

What you need is time with yourself and the sky.

Find a sunrise, a sunset, a blue sky, a cloudy day and spend some time with it.

With our feet on the ground and our eyes on the sky, we get a new perspective on what matters and what doesn’t. It’s hard to take the little things seriously when we’re looking up at that. It’s harder yet to stay too much in our heads with so much expansive to take in.

Why not take a few minutes for yourself and the sky?

Beach Notes: Up and Away

Up up and away

Last week at the beach we saw this vapor trail going almost totally vertical. It was quite impressive to see the plane climbing and climbing, ever upward.

We’ve seen plenty of fairly horizontal vapor trails. Neither of us had previously seen one like this.

Business thought. Maybe it doesn’t take much more effort to go vertical and high as to trundle along on the horizontal?

Beach Notes: Memorial Garden

June 27, 2010 by Guest Author

The other morning we came upon this “instant garden” on the beach. One of the other regular beach walkers told Suzie that it was from a little ceremony of commemoration on the anniversary of the death of the mother of a local woman.

The beach has many stories. This has been one of them.

Beach Notes: Seeing Creatively

One of our favorite beaches to walk on, which is also a bit risky to swim at, is Froggy’s, so named because someone about twenty years ago noticed that one of the many rocks looked like a frog and painted it accordingly. The paint seems to get refreshed from time to time.

We think it shows someone’s creative imagination.

Do you see creatively? How does it change your view of the world?

Beach Notes: Changing Views

Walking on the path this week, past what we call Froggy Beach we saw a new view. The changing shape and views of this small beach frequently surprise us.

The view this day, was like a Japanese Zen Garden, the rocks so inviting as a place for contemplation. I could see myself meditating there, listening to the sounds of the sea, refreshing, rejuvenating……… – Suzie Cheel

Beach Notes: Catch the Wind

One Sunday afternoon, walking on nearby Kirra Beach, we came across a group of kitesurfers, or kiteboarders. It was a blustery day, with the wind whipping up the waves. It was fascinating to see how, to get the kites in the air their owners had to exert a huge amount of energy and strength. Then once the kite was up the wind gave it dramatic power. The board rider’s task then was basically to manage and steer, but it seemed the kite and the wind were in control of the speed and direction.

Business analogy? Starting a business we have to expend a lot of time and energy. Our goal will be to get our business to a point where it can “catch the wind” of the market, with us then having to steer and manage, but ideally without all the huge effort we expended to get started.
