Steve Shorts: ReTweets and Cranking on Gmail?

Proud to Introduce you to Steve’s Shorts
A simple few minutes where a guy who is brilliant makes an observation about social media that you might have already been thinking. This column brought to you by the evil conspiracy that is Steve Plunkett and Liz Strauss.
Why I Don’t Thank for Retweet
by Steve Plunkett.
When people say “Thanks for the RT,”, I always shoot back, “Thanks for the good info”.. I read it, I may have even blogged it. It was good info, so I passed it along, you don’t need to thank me for sharing and trusting your credibility. Believing in you enough to click on a link? That you earned anyways via engagement and professionalism. But you are welcome, again, thanks for the info. When you retweet me, you are saying “Thanks for the info”.
A Short Look at … What’s Next?

Liz…
Several people are upset… i’ve been flamed, blog comment spammed (on one of my blogs.. lol).. so maybe more explanation is in order..
a. Klout says this…
@steveplunkett is a Socializer
You are the hub of social scenes and people count on you to find out what’s happening. You are quick to connect people and readily share your social savvy. Your followers appreciate your network and generosity.
b. Twitter reach..

TweetReach for steveplunkett
Reached 39,137 people via 50 tweets
and the other 6 tools i tried i just broke..
“You reached your pagination limit, contact us at info@retweetfollow.com if you need more.”
so let’s say i have 40k tweets (actually 38,994 – round number easier to digest. It will be 39k befoe i finish writing this blog post.)
let’s say half is original content and the other half is Retweets (the number i have is 19,286, so i think there is correlation. yes? no?)
so for fun.. let’s say 20k retweets
person A. retweets..
i say thank you +1
next person retweets
i say thank you +1
next person retweets
i say thank you +1
next person retweets
i say thank you +1
(you get the idea..)
it comes out to close to 20k more tweets on the conservative side..
so far.. since i started counting earlier today i have said 138 “thank yous” via DM, i’ve missed some, but i am not going to THANK you spam. (5 outside of DM), some people Rt me like 20 times in day. so i am going to thank them 20 times?
What if.. @guykawasaki said thank you for each tweet, and what if scobelizer, mashable, @kaynewest etc.. all said thank you for each tweet? (Hello!!! FAILWHALE!!!)
in the end social media is about engaging and providing value while being genuine..
a. all the thank yous don’t provide value, me engaging with the people that follow me and respecting their time does.
b. genuine.. i’m very polite.. i own a dog-eared hardcover copy of Emily Post Ettiquette, i would say thank you too many times during the day.. i would become the thank you guy.
c. I don’t expect a thank you for me RT’ing your stuff.. Me retweeting it means i read it, i liked it and i want to share your tweet with my followers. So Rt’ing my stuff is like saying thank you.. just like i am saying “Thanks for the Good Info by retweeting “YOUR” stuff and by following “YOU”
any questions?
=)

Peter,
I get that and when I had a lot fewer followers I felt a lot more comfortable doing it. I think everyone has to find their own ways of using Twitter to share and show appreciation.
