I'm Speaking at the Business 4 Business Conference Monday!

October 19, 2007 by Liz

Hope to Meet Some of You in Salt Lake City

Blogging for Business (B4B) Conference

The outstanding Jason Alba got together with the successful Matthew Reinbold to organize and present the 2007 Blogging for Business (or B4B) Conference. This event is the inaugural Intermountain West Blog Event for marketing, public relations, and business professionals. It’s quite a value, and I’m delighted I was invited. It’s an honor to be a part of short list of folks who will be contributing to an incredible day.

The conference focus will be on the role of blogs and new technologies. I’ll be speaking on how to go beyond the branding conversation to make your business sticky, using principles that work for your clients’ businesses too. Other topics during the day will include Public Relations, the state of the blogosphere, corporate blogging, social media, laws that govern blogging, and online visibility. The speaker slate is quite impressive:

  • David Politis
  • Gary Goldhammer
  • Linsey Pollack
  • Liz Strauss
  • Rand Bateman
  • Tim Stay
  • Wendy Piersall

If you’re anywhere near Salt Lake City on Monday. It’s well-worth attending. The 2007 Blogging for Business Conference will be held at the Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown – 75 S West Temple Salt Lake City, Utah. For more information visit the official Blogging for Business conference blog.

Blog Action Day: Personal Environmental Action

October 15, 2007 by Liz

Blog Action Day, October 15, 2007

Environment
Notes: 1. environment emerged linked with nature, implying ‘natural’ (not human, not cultural) surroundings; ecology emerged as a scientific effort to connect organisms (such as the human) to their environments
2. environment is the area in which something exists or lives; habitat is a the place or type of place where a person or thing is most likely to be found

Please don’t misunderstand. I love the sky and stars, the flowers, the animals and the ocean, the fire that lights and warms, and the rainbow colors that stole my heart when my eyes first opened. They steal my breath. I’m stunned to silence whenever I reflect on life without them.

Yet I wonder whether environmental change has a chance when we focus on their protection. Imagine nurturing what we can. . . . The question tugs at me do have a hope of healing the planet when we’re so woeful at healing ourselves, our missteps, and our own hurt feelings.

What if we healed our personal environment first? What if we brought our whole selves to make a whole Earth? Would doing the first part make the second part happen faster?

Personal Environmental Action

Did you ever love playing in the dirt?

What if we start with us? What if we heal ourselves first?

Inside our heads.
Inside our hearts.
Inside our thoughts and feelings.
About ourselves.
About others.
What if we put away the drama?

Do we love the words that hide inside our heads,
the words that say we don’t deserve
the breath-taking world set before us?
Let’s live self-respect and deserve what we have.

It doesn’t have to hurt.

Do we love the people, who
have taken trust and broken it,
violated and defiled something good?
Let’s shine our hearts on caretakers and caregivers instead.

Did you ever wish upon a star?

Do we love the events in the past,
that strapped the world — its fights and
its hurts — on ou rbacks and shoulders?
Let’s leave yesterday’s battlefield to reach the gold of tomorrow.

We get to pick who we are.

Self-respect and a shining vision on so many hearts,
just might be the gentle rain we need to heal the world
. . . without a word, a law, a cause.

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer . . . — Emmett Fox

It starts with us . . . and how we love.

Did you ever love playing in the dirt?

Do you suppose if we thought more of ourselves, we would take better care of the planet? Or do you think that the problem is rooted in thinking about ourselves too much already?

Hire a Hero

September 27, 2007 by Liz

relationships button

Anita Bruzzese let me know today about something that took my attention immediately. People who invested their lives on our behalf are home and without jobs. Here’ some of what Anita has to say on her blog.

I recently spent nearly an hour talking to Caulfield, an articulate, passionate and committed guy who gave me a real earful about the pitiful state of affairs regarding employment for our veterans. Despite having served with honor and serving in some of the most dangerous parts of the world, these vets have a tougher time than other job seekers looking for work – those age 20-24 often have an unemployment rate two to three times higher than non-veterans of the same age group.

Pleast read more of Anita’s story on vets without civilian jobs. Then visit Hire a Hero and pass on the information to folks who can help.

Jersey Todd, Vince Lombardi, and Collecting Quotes of Humanity

September 27, 2007 by Liz

I've been thinking . . .

Jersey Todd sent me this quote by the famed Vince Lombardi, a legend in American football coaching.

“Once you agree upon the price you and your family must pay for success, it enables you to ignore the minor hurts, the opponent’s pressure, and the temporary failures. ”

That got me thinking about success, and then . . .

And then, it got me thinking about Jersey Todd and Vince Lombardi — and all of the men and women who are like them, which got me thinking about how alike we all are. You see, I’m guessing that most of us already know what Mr. Lombardi was saying.

Been-There-Done-That!

I’m thinking that’s the reason we collect quotes and send them to friends. Those words of wisdom we pull out to share for whatever reason are a way of saying, “Hey, look . . . see. We might choose other words. Our experience of them might look different, but the essence is that we’ve been there. . . . and so has he.

Inspiring isn’t it that a sentence one person said years ago would be kept and valued?Amazing to see how a sentence can be a fine thread that connects and translates our humanity.

We’re there inside the words we say. We already know that.
If we look closer, we’ll find ourselves inside the words that everyone is saying,
Words connect us as human beings.

Young children know this.

” “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” –Christopher Robin to Pooh(A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh)

Would you add your own quote to the list?
