It’s Like Open Mike Only Different

Here’s how it works.

The rules are simple — be nice.

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. . . . Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.

See this post if you want some ideas of things to talk about.

Tuesday Open Comment Night

Personal Branding logo

YES, the mike will be open again tonight. So start collecting your thoughts. Remember, you get to bring what you want to talk about.

The rules are simple — be nice.

We got things going really fast last week. If you missed it, stop by this week, and check it out.

Some things we might talk about could include whether:

  • anyone will ever pay for content on the Internet.
  • Technorati will quit rolling out new features and get control of its old ones.
  • the telcos will win on net neutrality
  • anyone has a cool idea for what we should do on the blog this weekend.

AND THE EVER POPULAR, WHERE IS EVERYBODY?

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here.
Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.

Blogging Life Question 12

May 21, 2006 by Liz

What Would You Do?

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question. It’s NOT Hypothetical, tonight it’s a statement of fact.

More Net users would rather give up their cell phones and TVs than their access to the Net.

Internet users are a loyal bunch. The Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School asked Internet users what they would do if forced to give up technologies. Thirty-nine percent of Net users would first abandon their cell phones, 33 percent would switch off their TVs, but only 28 percent would be willing to give up the Net.

[via A day in the life of the ‘net]

So are they talking about you?

Because, yes they are talking about me.

Speed Reader — Not the Same One

May 19, 2006 by Liz

Speed Reading

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question. It’s NOT AT ALL Hypothetical, but I’ll phrase it that way.

On Monday I posed the question in what was a little too hypothetical a fashion. . . . In this update I’ll be straightforward.

Reviewing my stats early this week, I saw someone from one IP had accessed over 25 pages in under 40 minutes.

Today’s winner is 53 pages in 39 minutes, 25 seconds.

I think I’ll track this like a contest. Has anyone got a better string than that?

Hey, Speedy! Stop in and say hello.

Thanks to all who Attended Open Comment Night 2

Open Comment Night 2

It’s that Open Comment Night 2 was also a grand success. 174 comments and at times they were flying so fast, it was hard to keep up. We’re already discussing ways to improve it.

  • Martin has volunteered to gather suggested topics of the week — things that people around the blogosphere have been talking about. Those will be posted early in the day so that folks will have something to think about if they want to come prepared with a thought or two to add to the commentary. This topics list is meant for inspiration only and is no way intended to fetter the free flowing fun of the conversational atmosphere that we’ve managed to get going.
  • Scott has suggested that we announced a starting time and I’m taking him up on that. I think it makes real sense for folks to know when the mike is turned on.
  • Everyone should be aware that like coming late to a party, there is no need to catch up on what went before you arrived . . . just join in when you get there.
  • If you have more suggestions, please leave them in the comments on this post. Comment night is a community event. So let’s make it for everyone.

One question remains outstanding. . . .

Does Tuesday night work for you?

Unless there is an outcry in favor of another night, Open Comment Night will be every Tuesday, starting at 7:00p.m. Chicago time. There sidebar is open and there is no closing hour. 🙂

See you here again next week!

Open Comments Night 2 Mike is On

It’s Like Open Mike Only Different

Here’s how it works.

  • Comment ON ANY TOPIC you like. — Okay, okay, no mean language — I am the nice one.
  • Keep your comment less than a book.

It was really fun last week. Come on and join in!

Update: Don’t try to read it all. It’s like any rambling conversation. Just go to the end start talking.
