A Page for New Bloggers

April 20, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

New Addition

Customer Think Logo

There’s a new addition to the Successful Blog family.

No, it’s not a little baby blog . . . it’s a new page in the sidebar called New Blogger page. I’ve cleverly named it that because it’s intended for those who are new to blogging. Tricky, don’t you think?

The new page has a short description of Successful Blog and links to the key posts and series bloggers getting started would want to access first.

The rest of you can feel safe. I didn’t name names about who misbehaves. I figured new bloggers will find that part out soon enough. . . . Possibly in the comments to this very post. πŸ™‚

If you don’t know whether you’re a new blogger, please email me at lizsun2@gmail.com. I’ll do my best to help you figure it out.

    Good work Liz.

I’ve been thinking some blogs especially help/guide type sites need to have an audience type scale so people immediately know who the post will benefit most and maybe direct them to other posts so they can move on if it that particular post isn’t suitable.

Just with people arriving at a post say about web design via an SE it could be anyone from a designer with 10 years experience to someone learning WTF a html tag is. While that post might not be useful for one of these extremes there may be other posts on the blog which would be of interest to that visitor but the initial impression on the first post they saw might prompt the visitor to hit the back button on their browser never to seen again.

The scales can be for anything related to the posts: SEO Guru to SEO Newbie, Australian Cricket Fan to English Cricket Fan, Super Problogger to Wannabe Problogger.

It’d help regular readers as much as new visitors.

Aspiring php script writing gurus that is a WordPress plug-in I would pay for!

Sorry Liz just thinking out loud in your comments.

    Anthony,
    Thanks.
I think you have a good point. I’ve thought about doing that, but the idea is much stronger than the practice I think. it’s got the same problem as folksonomy does. It requires me, or any author/owner, to stay disciplined in the definitons over time, and that’s darned hard to do. beginner is easy, but who’s to say what’s challenging? Judgment calls are all over the idea. Could get messier than not doing it at all.

I love it when you think out loud in my comments. πŸ™‚

now thats what i call smart thinking.
This surely will make the new bloggers lives much simpler. Now they don’t have to go through each and every post to get tips for setting up a working blog.

    Well, Jack,
    Thanks!

Though, I’m no where sure I’ve got all of the good ones. I’m hoping if someone finds one along the way, or if I write a new one, that I’ll get a recommendation to add it to the page then.

So keep an eye out for me, will you?

Yea definitely a good thing to do.

I still don’t know whether to call myself a new blogger and head there or just hang around and feel safe πŸ™‚

I guess that’s best for you to decide πŸ™‚

I wish I was new and cute so Darren would link to me….

Great idea you had, as usual, and I hope it gathers you about 172 new readers and 63 links. This week.

    Hi Mike,
You’re cute and new to me.
I hope it gathers me some new readers too. So that I can tell them all about YOU. As far as 63 links go. I’m not seein’ anything near that. It’s looking closer to two. πŸ™‚

Having a hard time finding focus?

Having a hard time finding focus?

It can be hard to find focus sometimes. A few months ago, I was talking with a colleague who was having a hard time finding focus in their work. They spoke of feeling pulled in multiple directions and of many obligations — both at work and with their family. As I listened, I could hear […]

Sometimes We Outgrow Our Stories

Sometimes We Outgrow Our Stories

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend. We were sharing stories from days gone by about each of our lives. We hopped from one story to the next — based on what each of us were sharing. It was really an incredible discussion as we were each learning from the other […]

It’s Not Your Passion, But Your Purpose

It’s Not Your Passion, But Your Purpose

Everyone feels lost sometimes. I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t been lost in their head at one time or another β€” even those folks overachieving all over the Internet. We all find those moments that we wonder about who we are and what we want. But the question is not whether everyone gets […]

Getting Past Fear

Getting Past Fear

I felt the more embarrassing fear of people’s judgment. When I decided it was time to write again, I avoided the computer for the longest time. On the rare occasion that I managed to sit myself down to write, I’d get caught up answering email or reading articles around the web, not doing writing I […]
