Boosting Blog Traffic

May 9, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

When I went looking to see what was new on blog traffic and blog promotion, I didn’t expect to find anything nearly as thorough as this.

Great Find: HOW TO: Boost Your Blog Traffic by Paul Staminou
Type of Article: How-to on every step
Permalink: http://www.paulstamatiou.com/2005/11/03/how-to-boost-your-blog-traffic/
Target Audience: Everyone who blogs

Content:Paul Staminou has put together the complete document. It’s amazing and beautiful. This is not a mere blog post. It’s an e-book with visuals. It covers content, usuability, Technorati, blog networks and blog rings, feeds, stats, and how to talk to lurking readers. I think the value of the post is shown in the 193 comments. The trackback from this post will make it 194. To get there, as always, click on the screenshot of the title below.

Steve, Liz, & Ben Franklin on Learning

May 8, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

Learning from Each Other

Benjamin Franklin said, “Things that hurt instruct.” I’m a curious sort. I learned how a stapler worked in kindergarten by putting a staple through my hand. I didn’t do that again. I even told my friends about it. I’m still telling you now. That way some folks won’t have to learn the way I did.

Steve Remington agrees with Ben Franklin and me. So much he’s started a blog about it called Why My Blog Stinks and on one page in particular he’s inviting bloggers to swap stories of small things that went wrong on their way to success. I’ve started it out with one. Take a look and add your own by clicking the title below.

Not So Great Moments Page at Why My Blog Stinks

It’s a great way to learn from each other. No one else needs to learn about staplers the way I did. Not all learning needs to hurt. I think Ben would agree with that.

Color and Font Codes

HTML Color and Font Codes

New Blogger Logo

When I first started blogging, I was anxious to do what I could do in print–add emphasis using color or maybe once on a rare occasion change the font for flavor. But I was new to HTML and the rules had me baffled. I recently found this simple tutorial that not only shows how, but also shows which fonts are those that usually work.

Great Find: Color in Your Text from Writing up.com
Type of article: HTML tutorial
Permalink: http://www.writingup.com/htmltutor/color_in_your_text_from_htmltutor
Target Audience: Folks who want to know more about HTML
Content: This tutorial starts out with the basic code for changing the font and the color of your text.

Then the tutorial offers two clicks further. The first click takes you to choosing type fonts. While you are there, you can see how each font looks and check whether it is available on your computer. The second click shows you a basic color chart and color words to allow a chance for experimentation.

This tutorial is great for new bloggers or for seasoned bloggers in a hurry looking for a color change in their typography.

Click this screenshot title to go there.

I’m adding this to the NEW BLOGGER PAGE in the side bar.

A Page for New Bloggers

April 20, 2006 by Liz Leave a Comment

New Addition

Customer Think Logo

There’s a new addition to the Successful Blog family.

No, it’s not a little baby blog . . . it’s a new page in the sidebar called New Blogger page. I’ve cleverly named it that because it’s intended for those who are new to blogging. Tricky, don’t you think?

The new page has a short description of Successful Blog and links to the key posts and series bloggers getting started would want to access first.

The rest of you can feel safe. I didn’t name names about who misbehaves. I figured new bloggers will find that part out soon enough. . . . Possibly in the comments to this very post. 🙂

If you don’t know whether you’re a new blogger, please email me at lizsun2@gmail.com. I’ll do my best to help you figure it out.
