Successful Blog Moves Back to the City–b5media

February 6, 2006 by Liz

Sometimes Success means Failing Faster. For sure it means knowing when to make things right.

Two Personal Heroes

I don’t have many personal heroes or maybe I have too many personal heroes. I guess that depends on how you define them. I do know this–two of them are my dad and business giant Tom Peters who taught me the principle above.

I’ve been talking and listening to all of you since we left 9rules/Fine Fools about where we might focus Successful-Blog. You’ve had great suggestions, given me super advice. You’ve loved some of the changes. Others, well, you’ve not liked so much. In the end, I have to admit that when all of the ideas are thought through and filtered, the answer is that Successful-Blog doesn’t belong in the Wild, Wild West.

We’re moving back to the city where we belong.

That’s why when you clicked in this morning you see some changes, the ads are gone . . . there might just be a few bumps here and there. Last night we moved servers and this morning we are are with

b5 media.

I want to thank everyone at Erati and Blog Media for all they have done for Successful-Blog to make us feel part of the family. You were heroes in how you saw Successful-Blog’s need to move. I really appreciate that.

More Personal Heroes

I want the world to know that I went to b5media, not the other way around. You already know that Jeremy, Darren, Shai, and Duncan are personal heroes. This move has only shown me what good reason I had for having those feelings. They made things happen quickly, painlessly, and I look forward to learning and growing with them. I also look forward to learning more from you.

Isn’t that what success is all about?

Successful-Blog Joins 9rules–Thanks to Our Readers

November 9, 2005 by Liz

Once upon a time there was a little blog, who wanted to be Successful. It had all the right ideas. It just needed the care and feeding of great writers and great readers. It even had a cool name. It was called Successful Blog.

Along came two writers who loved the little blog. They met up with some readers who already liked the little blog. Soon more readers caught wind of the change. They came. They looked around and many stayed. The little blog was thriving. It started showing what it could be. It smiled in the company of Fine Fools.

People began to notice the Successful Blog that could. From everwhere, people came to see it. Successful Blog stood taller, worked harder for its readers. Readers took its stories home and said success could happen. All of this took place in but a fortnight and a day or two.

And it came to pass that Scrivian the Blogmaker looked at Successful Blog. And he saw that it was good. He saw community where there had been a little blog. He was touched that they valued their Fine Fool heritage and he realized that they always would.

Lo, that day the Blogmaker proclaimed from his computer that Successful Blog and its readers shall move to the major leagues. And they all lived there bloggily ever after . . . and quite successfully.

I am pleased to announce that Successful-Blog is now part of the 9rules network.

9rules

But then we already knew Successful Blog rules.

Thank you to all of you–you’re the ones who made it happen. 🙂

Using Your Competition As A Means To Growth

October 6, 2005 by admin

I find it quite amazing that much of the advice given to people looking to start a new business (or blog for that matter) with the intention of making money is to look for niches where there is no competition. I think that this may be the worst thing in the world to do because if there is no competition how do you measure your success?

Although the 9rules Network has a different model from both Gawker and WIN we still had to look at them as competition for a couple of reasons.

  1. It allowed us to measure our own success. If our Network couldn’t enter the same discussions as those two then where did that leave us? There are more than enough blog networks out there, but if we couldn’t stand out in the crowd what good does that do to the blogs within our Network?
  2. Learn from their mistakes and profit from the successes. If you don’t consider someone as competition then you will ignore the mistakes they have made and could quite possibly make the same ones yourself.
  3. Competition keeps you focused and motivated. Pick a site that’s in your niche or close to it and compare the quantity, quality and frequency of your entries to see how you stack up. Look at how they market themselves then you should be able to answer why they are more popular than you. If you are #1 in your niche, look for other sites that are starting to get mentions and links. Competition can be friendly, but you also must stay ahead of the pack.

Embrace your competition as it can only help you in the long run.
