Open Mic 7pm Chgo Time: . . . What We Wish We Could Learn How to

June 10, 2008 by Liz

Join Us Tonight

Everybody Wants to Learn Something!

It’s true. No one can do everything that they would like to. We can’t dream up and build every idea we conceive without learning a thing or two. What would you like to learn to do, to make, to try, to craft, to understand, or to be better at.

That’s what we’ll be talking about tonight. Well, that and whatever else comes up — as usual.

Oh, and bring links to thinks you can teach or want to learn how to fix.

The rules are simple — be nice.

Do be nice. 🙂

The Specials this Week are

Read, Write, Web shows quirky isn’t a copycat.
If there is one thing to love about the site even before you try it is that the service’s name, which at first glance sounds stupidly web 2.0, makes perfect sense once you know what it stands for (one of the very few web 2.0 names that do). In fact, when I first heard the name I was ready to hate it, but after reading their explanation I couldn’t help but love it.

360degree Blog shows the power of a teddy bear who cares.
Yesterday, I posted a bit of a rant about the wasteful and annoying practice of blog comment spam on my personal blog. In the post, I mentioned that spam has expanded beyond online pharma and adult entertainment to…teddy bears?

Remarkable Communication shows the conversational nuances.

While I definitely fall into the category Bob calls “online zealot,” I also think it makes sense to look at this stuff with your critical faculties fully engaged. One thing I’ve noticed is that the follow-up conversations I’ve seen talk about “social media marketing” or “conversation marketing” like it was one thing. In fact, there are a lot of different flavors.

The Mic is On: It's About When We Were Kids…

June 3, 2008 by Liz

It’s Like Open Mic Only Different

The Mic Is On

Here’s how it works.

It’s like any rambling conversation. Don’t try to read it all. Jump in whenever you get here. Just go to the end and start talking. EVERYONE is WELCOME.
The rules are simple — be nice.

There are always first timers and new things to talk about. It’s sort of half “Cheers” part “Friends” and part video game. You don’t know how much fun it is until you try it.

kids with ice cream

Let’s start with:

  • The first “kids” we kissed
  • The traditions we had
  • The stories we made up about neighborhood folks
  • The games after dark
  • The things our parents never knew

And, we’ll talk about whatever else comes up, including THE EVER POPULAR, Basil the code-writing donkey . . . and flamenco dancing (because we always get off topic, anyway.)

Oh, and bring links about when we were kids to share!
