Every business strives to achieve competitive advantage, customer satisfaction and excellence to become more successful. Competitive advantage is required by every business in order to strengthen its position and stay ahead in competition. Satisfying customers with products and services is the primary objective of business organizations. It helps businesses advertise their products well and improves the overall image of a company.

The rapidly advancing technology has made businesses more advanced with most utilizing IT skills for increased growth. With numerous businesses looking for better growth prospects, moving to another cheaper location is the best option. By shifting company to another place, businesses can save money and come nearer to customers or vendors. Moving a house or a business is made easier with the help of household removals and storage.

At the time of shifting business, most firms could use the help of moving and storage companies, who make the task simpler. Storage is the best option for businesses and proves beneficial to them in the long run.

How Storage and Removal Helps a Business Grow and Be More Efficient

Most businesses these days utilize computers and have equipments like furniture, important files, documents and books. Each of these equipments must be stored in safe and secure locations to avoid incidents of theft. Storage and removal prove advantageous for every business, as it helps in its growth. Here are a few ideas on how storage and removal makes a business more efficient.

  • All important information is stored in files and computers. Storing computers in climate controlled units minimize loss of data and keeps them safe. The saved data can be utilized for future needs. This helps business grow further.
  • Storing goods in climate controlled units minimizes their damage and keeps them secure for longer duration. Stored goods can be used in future, particularly at a time when you fall short of inventory.
  • Removal firms offer cost-effective storage solutions to most businesses in storing items during relocation. All goods stored are insured and this helps business avoid additional costs.
  • Moving to a new location having a strong customer base proves beneficial, as it improves business, thereby increasing profits for the business.
  • Relocating to a place that has enough space and in a prominent area visited by people often, improves the overall image of the organization, as more and more people are able to access your business easily.

Storage and removal are important processes that every organization requires at some point of time. Business can emerge successful if they plan well prior to the big move and opt for cost-effective removal and storage services.

How to Wow with Your First Resume

August 11, 2012 by Guest Author

Ana Rose

In these days of online job sites, it may seem the resume is dead. In reality it’s far from that. Whether it’s a traditional hiring process or one that starts on the Internet, you’ll find that having your goals and what you can offer organized will make any job search easier.

How to Wow with Your First Resume

Resumes always tend to make a candidate jittery for basically two reasons, viz., if the proper format is not known to them and secondly, if they do not have any experience to show and I mean the voluntary kinds. A candidate also gains advantage if he or she is involved in some extracurricular activity. At the entry level resume, one has the liberty to mention about the activities that are not totally related to the job profile.

Resume – Tricky Document
First resumes are the easiest and at times the trickiest to write, depending on the job field and the profile of work. Since freshmen have no substantial experience in the practical field, they need to pay special attention to the presentation of their credentials in the resume. The resume thus functions like a document that represents the candidate to the recruiter and employer. To ensure there are no chances of getting rejected in the initial selection rounds, the entry level resume template will come to your rescue.

Purpose of Resume

The following will tell you what to include in the resume, but before that it is important to know and be sure of the purpose of making the resume, i.e. to get a job or to secure an internship. In case of the former, we will see the points below, but in the latter case one needs to highlight the interest in the subject, marks scored in those subjects, hobbies or special efforts taken in order to learn more about it.

Tabular Format for Systematic Presentation

Entry level and college resume templates focus on the academics; make sure you present your details with respect to what subjects you have studied, which college, the university, the academic duration, specialization subjects, etc. Do make use of tables (tabular format) for putting in your details systematically.

Special Sections to be Highlighted

Extracurricular activities of the candidates are something which they can cash in on. In case the candidate has interest or some experience in their choice of line, then it should be highlighted right after the education section or just before it, if one has something of outstanding nature to mention related to the same.

Skills

A dedicated section for mentioning the special skills set and abilities, technical competencies, etc., is advisable. Use bulletined points and include two line elaboration with details like where did you participate in the activity, what you are competent in, for example, computer skills, using some particular software program, etc.

Creating a good impression is important whether you’re new graduate, a college freshman, or someone re-entering the workforce after a long absence. Use these tips to create a strong image.

The Secret to Success

Success in Life, Business, and Golf

BigStock What is success?

Molly:
That was incredible! That was the shot of the tournament!

Roy:
I just gave away the U.S. Open.

Molly: It doesn’t matter.

Roy:
One time in my life I know
the safe play to hit and I still …,
I still can’t make myself do it.

Molly: It doesn’t matter.

Roy: My whole career, my whole life on the line …
I just made a 12 on the last hole of the Open!

Molly: You sure did. It was the greatest 12 of all time.
No one’s going to remember the Open 10 years from now, who won … but they’ll remember your 12! My, God, Roy, it was…Well, it’s immortal! I am so proud of you!

–Kevin Costner and Rene Russo in the movie Tin Cup.

Perhaps I have golf on the brain this week, since I live just a few miles away from where the PGA Tournament will be played this year. But I’ve always had a soft spot for Tin Cup, Kevin Costner’s movie about a washed up golf pro.

The enduring lesson of Tin Cup is that, sometimes, no matter how crazy you seem to the rest of the world, you’re still doing the right thing for you. After all, Roy gets the girl in the end.

The Secret to Success

In business, as in life, you often have the choice of the easy lay up onto the green vs the risky shot across the water hazard. It might even be in a clutch situation, with everything on the line and crowds of people watching.

The person who wins in that situation is the person who has clearly defined criteria for success. And that might not mean winning the tournament. It might mean getting past fear and going all out in a quest for knowledge.

Fear of failure, fear of looking stupid, these things keep us from going straight at our goals. We tell ourselves that it couldn’t possibly work. Stop worrying about how it’s going to work, and start focusing on what success means to you. See it, savor it, vividly imagine it every morning.

Then pick up your trusty 5 iron and go straight at that hole.

Did You or Washington Build Your Business?

August 8, 2012 by Thomas

Unless you have been living under a rock in recent months, you have likely heard the argument coming out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue regarding your small business.

It goes something like: “If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

First, let me assure you that I’m not here to discuss politics.

I have gone on the record in recent times as saying that if Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are the two best candidates come November we can find to run for the world’s most powerful job, we’re all in deep trouble. There, that’s my two cents on the politics in Washington, D.C., so onto the more important stuff.

There seems to be this notion out there that small business owners are unable to do anything on their own without the intervention of  government. Be it a loan or other assistance, Washington must somehow be involved in order for the next great small business idea to take flight.

While I was not a straight A student in high school and college history classes, I can assure you that our Founding Fathers wanted government to stay out of our lives as much as possible. Unfortunately, it seems like government is more involved in our lives these days than at any point in recent history. For the small business owner, that is not a good scenario.

Whether you have been running a small business for years, just opened one, or have that notion floating around in your head to do so, YOU are the one who makes it happen. You are also the one who is having to put forth the blood, sweat and tears to realize your dream. Lastly, you are the one that will sink or swim with your small business.

One of the best things about living in the greatest country in the world is the opportunities that are out there for each and everyone of us. Unlike other parts of the world where one can only dream of opening a small business, play your cards right here and you can be that person.

While we do need governmental help from time to time, YOU can start your own business, run it successfully, and even employ others without Washington lifting a finger.

Despite the fact that many small businesses fail, there are many, many more success stories that we see and hear about on a regular basis.

The question is, will you be one of the success stories?

If the answer is yes, tell the politicians in Washington that YOU built that business, not them.

Is Your Business Getting Regularly Hosed at the Gas Pump?

August 1, 2012 by Thomas

They go up and they go down. They impact businesses and consumers alike. They bring out anger and frustration in just about everyone that sets foot inside a vehicle.

Yes, gas prices are one thing that most people despite their political views can agree on. In most cases, people would conclude they are getting hosed by the oil industry.

For the small business owner that is just trying to get by, higher fuel prices can mean added debt, less opportunity to grow their business, and a whole lot of frustration at the end of the day.

So, how can the men and women running small businesses stay on top of their company fuel prices and not be in done in by big oil?

One answer is turning to GPS tracking software.

The bottom line is GPS can tell the employer how far their employee/s went when behind the wheel of company vehicles, if they are properly utilizing their time while on the clock, and whether or not they need to consolidate trips.

In the event your company gas bills are adding up quicker than the U.S. medal count at the Summer Olympics, there are a number of benefits to having GPS software on your company vehicles.

They include:

  • Decreased operating expenses – Watching out for employee activities such as speeding or excessive idling not only saves on fuel expenses, but  also decreases the damage done to company vehicles;
  • Decreased insurance rates by some 35 percent – A large number of insurance companies offer reduced premiums for companies that have vehicles with real-time GPS systems;
  • Eliminating paper logs – When putting in place a digital record, employers can monitor not only fuel costs and vehicle maintenance expenses, but also audits;
  • Discovering unnecessary side trips – Many employees get a little frisky while out there with the company vehicle, perhaps deciding to take a little side trip here and there. As their employer, it is your job to remind them that they are on company business with the vehicle and not out running personal errands. A GPS system can log the mileage and location of the vehicle, making it harder for the employee to explain why it took them three hours to make a customer visit;
  • Better customer response time – Lastly, a GPS system will show you whether or not your employees are meeting the needs of customers in a timely manner. You can also consolidate trips by having the employee meet with several customers in the same geographic area so that you are not making individual trips to each customer over several days, meaning more fuel costs.

With no sign in sight of consistently lower gas prices, it behooves the small business owner who currently does not employ GPS tracking in their company vehicles to consider it.

Remember, your profits are for the business you have been building, not for the oil companies.

4 Success Keys for Female Entrepreneurs

Practical Advice for Female Entrepreneurs

American society seems to have finally reached the commendable tipping point where the number of women receiving advanced degrees and finding high-paying jobs is leveling out with men. And despite a scary statistic that women lead just 8% of venture-backed companies, I believe that the tide has also shifted in Silicon Valley.

It’s hard to ignore the wave of successful startups with strong female customer bases. Women make up 60% of Zynga’s customers, 77% of Groupon’s customers, 82% of Pinterest’s users and 70% of all ecommerce buyers. Those are numbers that even the old boys club of venture capital can’t ignore. I am a huge online shopper myself, and I was able to leverage that authenticity to attract venture backing for my ecommerce startup last August.

4 Success Keys for Female Entrepreneurs

While admittedly I’m pretty new the game, I’m often asked if I have any advice for aspiring, young entrepreneurs. What follows are 4 success keys for female entrepreneurs.

Seek out strong female role models.

I got some great advice early in my career by a female colleague who told me to find the women I want to emulate and get to know them by offering to buy them a cup of coffee. At first, I was a bit nervous to pick up the phone or write the email, because I knew they were busy women. But in the past seven years, I have reached out at least once a month to female bosses, leaders and entrepreneurs and only once to date has the recipient not been able to fit me in. I’m often touched at how openly and warmly they share experiences both professionally and personally. Ask about their management styles and their tactics for achieving the elusive work/life balance. It is through these meetings that I have honed in on my vision for the kind of female leader, mother and wife I hope to someday become.

Take advantage of a growing number of organizations and resources dedicated to promoting women in technology.

Women just one generation ahead often had to rise through the ranks without a support system. And yet these trailblazers have turned around and paved a path for the younger generations by creating organizations that open doors and facilitate connections for young females in tech. I subscribe to Women 2.0, a Kauffman-backed organization that offers content, community and conferences for women founders in tech. It’s inspiring to keep tabs on other female entrepreneurs, and I’ve attended several events in San Francisco where I got to connect with other female founders. I also applied and was recently accepted to Springboard’s program, which matches female entrepreneurs with coaches, industry contacts and investors. Take advantage of these incredible resources!

Be good at what you do.

Seek out opportunities that might give you a second look because you are female, but don’t depend on that to get the job done. I’ve had several female engineers apply to my company, and I was rooting for them. But at the end of the day they weren’t as good on merit, and they didn’t get the job. Be self aware about your weakness and take advantage of online and local courses to improve everything from your coding to your public speaking skills. Deep down, you know when you are really good at something, and this competence is the crux of the confidence that will make you successful.

Speak with conviction and work on your handshake.

I’ve noticed many women do themselves a huge disservice by raising the inflection of their voice at the end of sentences. It makes everything sound like a question and gives others the perception of a lack of confidence. Make sure your statements really pack a punch. Along the same lines, don’t start an introduction with a wimpy handshake. You don’t need to have an Arnold-grip but make eye contact and shake hands like you mean it. Let others know you are confident in yourself, your team and your idea.
