What Rick Cockrum Said . . . about Dreams and Roadmaps

November 8, 2008 by Liz Leave a Comment

A community isn’t built or befriended,
it’s connected by offering and accepting.
Community is affinity, identity, and kinship
that make room for ideas, thoughts, and solutions.
Wherever a community gathers, we aspire and inspire each other intentionally . . . And our words shine with authenticity.

Dreams and Roadmaps

Some dreamers put their dreams on the horizon and talk about what they wish. Dreams require a life to be more than a wish. If we only look at our dreams, we’ll see them fade into nothing. What does it take to live a dream into reality?

Here’s what Rick Cockrum said . . .

The most important thing I learned in school was how to learn, Leon. What your degree is in doesn’t matter. Dreams are NEVER smashed, though the implementation may have no resemblance to the original.

The best thing about having a roadmap and a strategy isn’t to stick to it slavishly, but to have taken the time to consciously decide where you’re going, how you’re going to get there, then how you’re going to act on the inevitable changes that have to be made, rather than just reacting to circumstances occurs.

Rick Cockrum from a comment on March 20, 2007

A successful and outstanding blogger said that.

Your Mother's Daughter

October 23, 2007 by Liz Leave a Comment

A Successful-Blog Birthday Post!

from Rick Cockrum

She has her eyes. He has his nose. She has your smile.

All babies show the mark of the genes of their parents. Blogs are no different. Any blog with a soul bears the mark of its author as surely as any child is marked by the genes of it’s parents.

You’re not a stranger any more.

Those are some of the first words that I and many others read when we came through the doors of Successful-Blog. That’s where Liz shows through. The saloon-keeper’s daughter had a baby and raised her up to be a friendly place where anyone is welcome. It’s a place to read, to learn, to share, to talk. And now she’s turning two. As a human, Successful-Blog would just be a toddler. As a blog, she’s coming into her maturity.

Successful-Blog was one of the first blogs I began reading regularly. As others have said before, I came for the information and stayed for the conversation. One of the most important things that’s happened because of Successful-Blog is the relationships that have happened around it. Many of the names in my blogroll are people I’ve met through Successful-Blog, people like Joe, Chris, Carolyn, Ben, Tony, Terry, Phil, Christine.

Tuesday night open comments has been especially influential. That’s where SOBCon was born. Terry and I planned a song together. I decided that Hey, it may not be great, but it’s okay to put my verse online. At last year’s birthday party Liz invited us to bring a link. I brought Your Life, Your Greatest Work Of Art. In that post I said

Your life is the greatest act of imagination and creative expression that you can know

Successful-Blog brings that to our virtual world.

Happy Birthday, Successful-Blog!

You’re not a stranger any more.

Thank you, Rick! It’s beautiful.

Link Love for Three Who Make Us Better

blogtipping icon 1

Today I’m celebrating official Blogtipping Day. How about you? As the song goes “Give a little bit . . .” Here’s how it works.

  • Choose three bloggers you admire and link to them.
  • List three reasons why you admire each one.
  • Then add a tip at the end.

That’s all there is to it.

Cat Morley

  • Designers who Blog is a testament to Cat who celebrates the great work of others.
  • Every time Cat visits here, she leaves wisdom and insights. She often leaves links to wonderful tools.
  • When a friend is in need, Cat is there with a hand, even if that friend is a friend of a friend. Cat is an amazing person.

Tip: Watch out for evil computers who want to thwart you.

Katiebird

  • Katie’s blog is like Katie welcoming, open, and other centered.
  • Talk to her once and you’ll know she’s the real deal — more than she ever shows in a glance.
  • When folks are at her blog or she is at theirs everyone seems to get taller, reading what she says.

Tip: Katie know your value. You make us worth more.

Rick Cockrum

  • Everytiime I read Rick’s blog I learn something I didn’t know about people and about myself.
  • He might have called his blog Shards of Consciousness, but his own awareness is vast, and his heart matches the size of the universe.
  • I feel lucky to know Rick and to read what he writes.

Tip: Rick, I can never get enough of you or your words.

Thanks to all three of you for making me more aware of how human the blogosphere can be.
