How to Be Ever Grateful for What You Have

November 25, 2010 by Liz Leave a Comment

cooltext443809437_relationships

Thanksgiving. Families. Rooms filled with people. Old torn relationships and new relatives. Or worse. A diner and a meal alone with faded memories.

We can’t bring back or remake today into what once was.
We can’t get the folks we love to behave exactly as we might want.
We can’t orchestrate the world to turn slowly to our best thoughts.

But we can be grateful for what we’ve got.
Every day. No matter what. We can recognize and celebrate what we value most of all.

How to Be Ever Grateful for What You Have

When that clerk in the grocery shop snaps and cracks and can’t even look up to see the person that you are, think about the generous person might have seen. Smile anyway and say “Thank you.”

When that person at work treats you like an inconsequential robot, think about the value you add every day. Smile anyway and say “Thank you.”

When that family member takes over the center of the universe, think about how much nicer you can be when you’re able to see the view from the perimeter. Smile anyway and say “Thank you.”

When that person you misinterprets your good deeds, think about good feelings that came with the doing. Smile anyway and say “Thank you.”

When that gossip says things about you that aren’t true, talk to your friends who would never believe such things about you. Then smile anyway and say “Thank you.”

Thank you
for showing me I don’t get thrown by little things.
for helping me see who I am is not what you say about me.
for the opportunity to try a positive response to your negativity.

Thank you can be an invitation to set the table differently.

But most importantly,
When the people who help you thrive show up,
smile every time and say thank you.
You’ll know them by the way
they consistently say and show they have faith in you,
by the hope and time they invest your dreams,
and by the endless love they provide to see you through.

Make every breath a smile and a thank you.
Say it out loud and show to proudly in every way you know how.

It’s a forever gratitude … a generosity that goes both ways.
Smile and say “thank you” out loud to recognize how rich your life is.
Every day.
———
Thank you to everyone who has changed my life.
My gratitude is huge and will always come back to you.

My Fear-Less Thank You to the Real Heroes of SOBCon

May 5, 2010 by Liz 13 Comments

It’s Only Started

sobcon-vmc

SOBCon2011 (April 28-May1, 2011) has started already started. Wow! Never too soon to get good things going toward the sky.

Sometimes I get things in the wrong order.

So many wonderful comments exchanged on Twitter, so many hugs and handshakes, so many requests for “When do we get to do this again?” that I didn’t breathe long enough to say a proper “thank you.”

I’m sorry.

I personally thank you.

As I stop to breathe and reflect, the overwhelming feeling is gratitude. Tears fill my eyes thinking of you and the barn we raised this year.

358349_champagne_on_beach

Sending a peaceful beach and bottle of champagne to you.

You see, Terry and I both agree that it’s really you — all of you — sponsors, speakers, panelists, and participants who make it all work. It’s in the way you believe in us and believe in each other.

It’s in your eyes, your smiles, and in the way you refuse to let anyone fail.

Every year, we all find ourselves wondering, just a little stunned at how it all came together to be something bigger than all of us.

We learned, we lead, we inspired each other.

I wasn’t the same person before I started connecting with you. I marvel at the ways you all have improved me, bring the best out of me, and choose to see the best in me. … kind of like Terry, Lorelle, and my family.

You’ve softened my rougher edges to make me a little more like you.

I’m proud of what we’ve made.
But don’t think for a second that it could have been done without you.

You are the heroes.

Congratulations!
And thank you.

Please value you what you’ve made and make it even more now.

I love you,

You Have Made Me a Better Person

June 8, 2008 by Liz Leave a Comment

Working on the eBook Tonight

While I was rearranging and changing what I was saying in the ebook I’m working on.
I came across a few words that were fine just as I had originally written them.
I had to stop to make a collage of photos, so that I could put them up tonight.

The more I bring to the folks who come to read, the more they give me. People who read my blog make me smarter, better every day.

How has my blog changed how I think of relationships? It’s only made them more dear, more important, and more cellular to every letter, every link, every learning that is in this text.

I can’t imagine looking at any part of my blogging career without seeing the people who, in a word, have made me who I am.

People of SOBCon08

Thanks to everyone who’s ever read a word, or said a word on this blog.

664+ Thank Yous birthday balloon

thank you

Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks for sharing your outstanding success.
Thanks for being a friend.

It was a most prodigious day.
I’ll be collecting all of the party links for you.

Meanwhile, I just want to say
that if troubles ever knock . . .
you can share them too.

If you find a time when things just seem to fall apart
and there’s no way to keep a cheery face,
when the sight of your own reflection
only breaks your heart,
and all of your dreams have given up the chase . . .
pick up the telephone, you know I’m always home,
any time of night or day.

Let me be the first to know. — Howard Jones, People

You are my inspiration.

Thank you for showing up in your own unique and wonderful ways,

Coffee in the Morning Wherever I Go

August 15, 2007 by Liz 19 Comments

Jan and Joanna Inspired Me!

thematic-links

How could I not enjoy getting to work in the morning? Each day when I open the doors to this little blog, I find wonderful minds here to share conversation and coffee. Listen in to one conversation that happen on a day I was traveling, a short two weeks ago.

We talked about the in-between times, the life that happens that is not a big event. Juggling Frogs, offered congratulations on my son’s graduation. Karin H. revealed the news of a quadruple birthday party. Lodewijkvdb pointed with wonder at how human beings have the power to relive the past in our minds. Robert said, ” the best ideas come from, the ones that have nothing to do with work, but with life.” Gary returned to add that we often forget to enjoy the part in between big events. zakman pointed out that with understanding the inbetweens of hard times, we might also find solace. Mike observed that we spend time at big events talking about the inbetweens. GP offered one of her timely quotes that leave me thinking for days

My mind is filled up every morning with such learning. Who else gets to spend coffee with such incredible people every mroning? Even more incredible I am totally able to take my morning coffee friends with me wherever I go.

Thank you all for the life’s breath you give me every morning.

When Saying “Thank You” Can Never Be Enough

May 14, 2007 by Liz Leave a Comment

I’ve been thinking . . .

about saying “Thank you.”

It was always a problem, from the time I was wee one called “Bashful.” How do I express sincere gratitude when the words, the simple words that are available have been over used and pounded in to submission? How can I just say them, when I need their tired forms to carry the deepest meaning, yet they sound just the same as when they are tossed out frivolously by anyone with a vocabulary?

They say actions speak louder than words, but . . . sometimes words are necessary. The right words are an action in and of themselves. They take time to be chosen and arranged to convey the thought.

Here is the thought:
We, everyone of us — those who went, those who held their breath in anticipation whether they were going to attend SOBcon or not. — We all made it happen. It was a product built from our faith in each other and a focus on hard work –the details that the committee — Chris, and Lisa, Terry, and Mike worked on daily. It’s the serious work that the speakers put into the content and the passion with which they collected and delivered it with joy and generosity. It is the open hearted joy of those who could attend and the quiet support those who could not –all standing by ever ready to help. Always ready to offer their faith and passion for the event.

This was so not the worde of one — simple words cannot expand to describe or express my deep, deep gratitude for every voice, every thought, every good feeling that was a part.

So I am left with a heartfelt “Thank, you, you have changed my life.”
