Ode to Easton the Blogtipping Man (Part 4)

September 30, 2006 by Liz

Part 4 of 4

Easton was dressed in a nice clothes — not college-kid rags,
But his clothes were a cloud of Technorati tags.
His backpack was full of compliments for handing out freely,
He was a blogger, on a mad posting spree.

His words-how they tickled! His remarks, oh, how insightful!
He could devise a surprise that was truly delightful!
Blogtipping was a phenomena, an artist’s creation!
Throughout the blogdom, blogtipping was now an occasion.

Yet Easton, the Blogtipping Man, didn’t know,
That bloggtipping day, we wait for him to show.
We know he’ll come to leave that one comment,
To say that he saw it. We wait to see what he says!

He slides into the comment box leaving a word,
And next thing you know, only laughter is heard!
Easton says: “Good job. I guess, it’s all in the wrist,”
And you wonder, Where does that guy get lines like this?

Then he springs to his blog, to his fans gives that smile,
And he’s gone before you can say, “Come back in awhile.”
But I saw him post once in very tiny, fine print,
“I love blogs. I love blogging. I love bloggers!
(and I just made you squint)”

Introducing Manage to Change

June 25, 2006 by Liz

SOB Hall of Famer: Manage to Change by Ann Michael

manage to change

“Manage to Change” provides a forum to discuss how change impacts people and businesses. By sharing observations and asking questions, we try to develop strategies for anticipating change, viewing it positively, adapting, and even changing the rules of the game as often as possible.

To some degree the focus is on information management: What will happen in the world of content creation, marketing, distribution/delivery, and the
business models of media and publishing, as technology advances and consumer demands change?

Notes from Liz: Ann Michael thinks of change in context. Change to her is part of a process.Ann approaches her life and her work with determination, energy, and constant attention to what might move things forward in a positive, supportive fashion. Read her comments, on this blog or the many blogs that Ann visits, and you’ll know that Ann likes to laugh and likes to study business — how it works and how people think. She is an intringuing and powerful combination of likeability, laughter, and downright competence. Read her blog and you will see what I mean.

Seth Godin, Seminars, & What I Almost Missed

June 17, 2006 by Liz

Choosing to Go Isn’t Easy

They say that when the learner is ready the teacher appears.

061506 Seth Godin and Liz

I had the privilege of attending a Seth Godin seminarthis week. My closest friends can’t believe I managed to get there.

Getting to a seminar is a problem for me. There are so many seminars, and there’s so little time. I have a problem choosing. I don’t really like to commit my time. I really like learning, but I’m leery of things that look like school.

Learning is task that I do by myself. A seminar is a BIG DEAL — It’s an investment of time and money. I have a whole speech that talks me out of such things. I can call that speech up in a second.

“NO WAY! Can’t afford it. No time. Too much to do. Need to be working, not spending. That would be fun. That would slacking. . . . taking the easy way. Can’t buy folks’ wisdom just ’cause I feel like it.”

What a crock!

It’s a great speech. It’s not a valid argument . . . but it works when want to talk myself out of something. It’s not about time or about slacking. NO WAY, No time is my back door to avoiding something that I feel is risky.

Attending a seminar is saying out loud that I want to learn something.

What if I go and it’s not what I thought? What if I don’t learn anything? What if I fall off my bike?

The answer’s the same to all three questions. But you knew that. I had to learn the hard way. I skipped the seminar on the value of seminars. If had skipped the Seth Godin seminar, I would have missed so much more.
