Daily Kos Tech Update

January 27, 2006 by Liz

This Just In:

For all the techies . . . the Daily Kos says

Quick update on some furious development going on behind the scenes.

The comment boards have been completely rewritten and are absolutely amazing (using Ajax, for those who know and care about those sorts of things). They will be, without a doubt, the most technologically advanced anywhere. Now, while the code is complete, the hackers are working to integrate it into Scoop. This will be tricky and should take another week or two. Hopefully on the lower end of that estimate. But man, these new comments will blow your minds.

Great Find: SEOmoz Beginner’s Guide

Great Find: SEOmoz Beginner’s Guide to SEO
Type of Article: A Series of Articles on SEO
Permalink: Beginner’s Guide to SEO
Target Audience: Any blogger who is curious about SEO and how it works
Content: SEOmoz, a Seatlle-based Search-engine organization has put together this series to help individuals, organizations, and companies who have little to no experience with search engine optimization and want to learn the basics of how search engines work. The organization states their goal as to improve your ability to drive search traffic to your site and debunk major myths about SEO. We share this knowledge to help businesses, government, educational, and non-profit organizations benefit from being listed in the major search engines.

From this list it appears that they take their goals very seriously. The first four (in purple) give you a quick look at what you might be interested in further down the line. All of the articles are short and written in clear, plain English, so they’re easy to follow and, well, interesting to read. Take a peek.

This is one fine reference to add to your library. It’s nice to bump into an SEO org that wants to share what it knows in such an organized fashion. Thanks SEOmoz.

chartreuse (Beta) Thinks Outside the Knee Jerk Reaction

January 25, 2006 by Liz

Chartreuse bottle image

Chartreuse. It’s a drink. It’s a color. It’s a drink. It’s a color. It’s a drink and a color. That’s not relevant here.

What’s relevant is it’s a blog called chartreuse (Beta). It’s also the name of the MAN who writes it. He’s a thinker, who brings original ideas to the table.

Winds of controversy have been blowing again. This time over a blogger who set up a site called Amblogger–to mean Amateur Blogger–and took the exact code for the design from Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger site. The stolen version is no longer up, but Darren has a screen shot in his discussion of the incident. I won’t recap the story that will be retold.

I want to tell of a new voice on the scene, chartreuse (Beta), who after analyzing all of the data, came up with a different read on what happened and with what could have been a more propitious response. He thinks outside the knee-jerk reaction to find the logical solution that works. Read his article which I’ve linked to the image below, and you’ll see what I mean. Boyhowdy, I like how this man thinks.

chartreuse (Beta), next time you’re in Chicago I’d like to buy you a drink–any color you choose.

A visit to Javier’s blog is like a visit to his new office. You feel like he has just put down the sandwich he was eating to talk with you personally.
