Generosity and Gratitude

November 22, 2007 by Liz

NIX photo of Star

In this universe

so much larger,

infinite and spectacular,

filled with wisdom.

filled with wonder . . .

beautiful tulips

We want,

we worry,

wander searching

for meaning,

for beauty and for connection.

flowers from the heartflowers from the soul

We reach. We find our hearts, ourselves, each other.

Our lives are connected by beauty, meaning, and generosity.

Generosity and Gratitude

beautiful flowers and a bee in the sunlight

are inseparable, as lifelong friends are.

We cannot offer one without the other.
They are brave and vulnerable.
They are magnetic power.

They make us better forever.

All of me thanks all of you
for every word and every space.

I am one lucky girl.

Dots that Dream

November 4, 2007 by Liz

Connecting dots with The Idea Dude

Connecting Dots logo

My intent this week was to talk about thinking and finding new thinkers. I asked myself what do thinkers do when they think? Sure, they assimilate a lot of new information from around them and they come up with new ideas. But how do they do that?

I believe a lot starts with a keen sense of possibility. They ask themselves what if? and why not? and in the process a new thought is born. That idea emerges from imagining, not the impossible, but the possible. Watch a child play with Lego blocks and see how things are built as they see it. No-one told them it was impossible so they did it.

To dream is to imagine our own possibilities

So what is dream but an imagination of our future sparked by our sense of possibility. Yet so often, we are stereotyped by those around us, telling us it is foolish to dream and to survive in the real world it is all about execution. But without the dream, there is no vision and without vision, how will your execution get you there?

Dreaming other people’s dreams

Liz asks Why is it so hard for us to believe? We can believe that the other guy will win, but not us. He will be the President, the rock star, the artist. She will be the CEO, the actor, the international lawyer. But it never crosses our mind to aspire to that path.

Are you afraid to dream?

dotdoticon-tiny

Joel says…what if we started to dream our own dreams? You and I might change beyond all recognition.

Empowered by our imagination

dotdoticon-tiny

Jennifer asks us if we have a dream within and reminds us that Everything that was ever created by humans was first imagined. What can we imagine?

Keeping the strength to dream

dotdoticon-tiny

Terry was inspired by a line from an Elvis song. But as long as a man has the strength to dream, he can redeem his soul and fly

Need I say more?

Dream on.

May the dots be with you!

Dots that Change the World

October 28, 2007 by Liz

Connecting Dots logo

On this very blog, Liz’s open invitation is for you to join her to Change the World. We often think we have to be presidents, rich or influential to do that. We somehow believe that often we’re too ordinary or too insignificant to be agents of changes.

Consider this… if the net effect of one man donating $5 million dollars is the same as 5 million people donating a single dollar, why should we feel our donation of a dollar be worth any less in thought or deed?

We can be everyday heroes.

All it takes is an act of kindness…

Is it a coincidence that two of Liz’s call to actions are together we can change the world and be nice? I think not!

Make it personal.

dotdoticon-tiny

Mary says it’s the little things that make a difference. Perhaps, in this hustle-bustle world filled with impersonal information, it is the personal attention, the personal contact, the personal encouragement that means the most.

Make time to acknowledge and encourage.

dotdoticon-tiny

Robyn relates an inspiring story of choice and explains why …naming specifics makes a difference when you recognize brilliance in action… and ..helps people to become more of who they’re meant to be.

The best place to start is within.

dotdoticon-tiny

Bob shares with us that any change, planned or random, involves a few key elements among them questions, fear and risk.. Those questions, fear and risk often leads to procrastination. I often have to remind myself, the question is not “what if I did”, but “what if I didn’t”… There is no change without action.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

dotdoticon-tiny

Matthew shared with us a speech from Queen Rania of Jordan. There is no better call to action for us to change the world. In a shrinking world, we cannot afford to ration our compassion. More than ever, our fates are intertwined – and our friendship must know no boundaries…we are the ones we have been waiting for

May the dots be with you!

The Secret to a Successful and Outstanding Blog

October 24, 2007 by Liz

How to Blog Series

Once upon a time in the real world, I started a blog. . . .

I thought it was going to be a writer’s project. I’ve been wrong before, plenty of times, but I don’t think I was ever quite so spectacularly off. I thought a blog would offer me a place to practice my writing and maybe allow me a chance to offer a thought. I thought a blog was a flat surface for communication. That’s not what I found.

I found the secret to a successful blog is more, and more touching than that.

calculator for head

Readers come for the information in a blog post. There’s no question of that. Readers read what writers write and writers write to teach, inform, entertain, mystify, motivate, and inspire. Every word we write, every idea we construct to share, moves from our minds to others on a fine silver thread of digital thought.

Still the thoughts alone would be sad and lonely without a heart to back them up.

heart box for heart

It’s the heart and the passion that fuel the words, make the magnetic. It’s the heart that plays the beat that resonates to bring readers back. Even when our hearts find themselves in distant places, we still recognize our humanity and our relatedness. When we write with our heads and hearts together, people notice.

Heads engaged, hearts beating, a blog has power.

collage for meaning of life

A truly successful and outstanding blog also has meaning. Somehow, in some way to each individual, a successful and outstanding blog makes a difference by adding something of value to being one who visits. You might call that spirit. You might call that direction or focus. I call that soul.

The soul of a blog is carried by the person who writes it and the folks who come to read it too.

That’s what I found, a successful and outstanding blog is head, heart, and soul. It’s all of what makes us human and worth paying attention to. Bring it who you are and the folks you meet will help you become more.

I know. It happened to me. It happens again every day.

Be irresistible
Thank you to everyone who has made this our successful blog.

Birthday Poetry from the Successful-Blog Poet Laureate

October 23, 2007 by Liz

friends

An Ode to Successful Blog (and Liz)

by Joe

With such wonder two years ago I found
A New Blog that was friendly and conversations abound
It was inviting and different in this new place
The Blogger wanted to know each and every new face

As each new comment and bit of banter grew
The conversation, it wandered around and started anew
A bright idea Liz had one Tuesday Night
“Open Comments!” she said to everyone’s delight

From there, as before, as time went on
Another idea Liz had, it was S.O.B.con!
The year was ’07 and all were invited
including me, and I was just so excited

All the new friends I made that weekend
Helped improve my Blogging to no end
And a nudge in business, referrals I guess
Came about from my new friends all, no less!

It depends on how you measure Success
But my new friends ’round here have given me
Happiness!

Happy Blog B-Day Successful Blog!

and Liz, Just Stay The Way You Are… (hear the song?)

Thank you, Joe.
